Moviehole reports that the upcoming sequel to the animated classic "101 Dalmatians" is good enough that it might be going to theatrical release instead of video.
Man....when will it stop?

Disney won't be happy until they've strip-mined everything. That tends to happen when you have terrible writers who can't come up with something new.
Let's see--a sequel to Peter Pan, 101 Dalmations, and Dumbo; but will they do a feature film of something worthwhile, like Gargoyles? No.

So I guess this means we'd better get ready for "Attack of the Clones," both from Star Wars and Disney...

I wonder how long we will have to wait for them to announce a sequel to Atlantis?

I don't know, Atlantis did pretty badly (We're not likely to see a sequel to the Emperor's New Groove either, but that's just my prediction). But I think they're planning a Tarzan 2 and a Mulan 2.

I think I've said this before, but can't they find a way to use their talent on coming up with one, new, good movie instead of a million cheap sequels?

I thought they had some totally new projects coming out.

Isn't there a movie called Lilo and Stitch by them due out in the coming year?

They have both new animated features and direct to video features coming. Lilo & Stitch is coming next summer, I believe.

I guess there making a television series for Atlantis, and I haven't even gotten to see the movie yet! I hear a lot of rumours going around about Mulan 2 though.

Nah, I think that series got canceled due to the crappiness of Atlantis.

I really think they're running out of ideas. I've been telling that to people for quite awhile now. Instead of copying other people's fairy tales or what have you, why can't they just come up with their own original story? I really don't think I can sit through another sequel featuring the offspring of former heroes. I don't want to sound mean, but I really don't like Disney, and this is just dropping an ice cube down my back as far as I'm concerned.
This is just too much. If I have to hear about yet another 101 Dalmations (103 Dalmations, 101 plus 12 Dalmations, etc) movie, I'll... I'll throw a fit  Why can't they just leave their movies alone? I want Cinderella and the other classics to stay the way they are! This is just like The Land Before Time... they're really beating it to death with those darn continuences (sp?). But, if they must, they better be pretty darn good ;)

i know, it really is just sad. i am a huge disney fan, and i usually just avoid those dtv sequels, inorder to leave the original movies alone in my head. although i heard simba's pride was good, but i still havent seen it, probably never will unless its airs on the disney channel or something.
but i will see peter pan 2 when it comes out, even though it will probably suck. if its a theatrical release, then i'll give it a shot, cause maybe they put more time/energy/and talent into making it if its in theaters.
AND I LOVED ATLANTIS! if they make a crappy sequal to it i will be seriously po.
but i liked most of their series. aladdin was cool and the hercules series was actually pretty good. just imo.

"And Team Atlantis (the series) is dead. BUT, if I haven't mentioned this before, they will be releasing a direct to video sequel. This is really three episodes of what WOULD have been the series strung together with a brief but (I think) impressive framing plot. So you will get the opportunity to get a taste of what the series might have been like." just not the episodes with Demona. http://www.s8.org/cgi-bin/ag_read.cgi?Team_Atlantis

I'm sorry, but Atlantis was god awful...and I was especially upset because it had so much potential (I was impressed that they actually did some actual research and didn't just have a bunch of water-breathing humans!).
The problem is that Disney has strip-mined just about every fairy tale for a film that they possibly can. They've run out of stories with European settings, so now they're going to other continents (Asia, South America). However, I wouldn't mind seeing a sequel to Mulan--that movie kicked ass!
Hey, what about a Disney movie set in Norse myth? Oh, wait...they'll make it all goofy like Hercules.

EXACTLY!!! Gargoyles would make an awesome movie, but they won't do anything with it. Im glad someone else said something about it...

Disney's theatrical department is pretty good... I'll admit to liking the majority of the stuff they release. And from what I've heard, there's a lot of good buzz on Lilo and Stitch. But their video department is abysmal... they're the ones that crank out all the sequels, the Tigger Movie, etc. etc. Someone needs to reign them in.

Their video department is sad to say the least. Their sequel to THE LITTLE MERMAID has been the ebst thing to come out fo there, and I wouldn't call that a compliment. They butchered LOIN KING 2 by completely re-editing the ending. If they kept the original ending intact, that would have definatly put the movei up a notch or two in my book.

What was the original ending of LK2?
Anyway, onto Gargoyles... Dunno how many of you read the Atlantis link in my last post... But what do you think about some sort of in-company crossover? Atlantis is the only serious one I see working, but it is a field with quite a bit of opportunities. Certainly I'd love to see Demona in Cinderella 2. :p

Here was the original ending, and some cut out scenes, from LK2. There are spoilers, so highlight to read.
There were supposed to be two or three very short scenes showing the suicidal nature of the lead villian character, including dialogue about her "coming to be with Scar" by he rown means.
During the final climactic battle, there was a scene where she was supposed to rant and rave about how her life doesn't matter.
And when she's dangling over the water in the climax, she was supposed to have a little speech before letting herself drop. Apparently a different angle for her drop was animated as well.
I think that would've made the movie a bit better. The villian was so one dimensional I could see through her.
The fact is that fairy tales and legends were never mayde to be sequaled. The general idea was that the bad guy was defeated and they just lived the rest of their lifes in peace....or so I thought. I read a sythosis of Cinderella 2 that sounds terrible. Alough not to say all Disney sequals are bad I thought the Resucers down under was pretty good.

I personally think they are trying to make some fast money to recoup some of the losses they took on the disappointing showings for Emperor's New Groove and Atlantis. They wanted the kind of money Shrek got, but since they didn't, they are looking for ways to get the maximum amount of profit out of the miminal amount of work, and making cookie cutter sequels in their answer. God forbid they should actually try to come up with a good feature film.

I've known about "101 Dalmatians 2" for a while now, and I can't be silent a moment longer: this is a bad idea! It's like Disney wants to destroy every classic that it has created (a lot of sequels have irked me, but this time. it's personal. IMHO, "101 Dalmatians" is, bar none, the best of Disney's animated features). I mean, didn't Walt Disney say himself that there were to be no sequels to his films? What happened there, huh?
It gets me to thinking about prior attempts to assassinate the memory of this hallowed piece of cinema:
101 Dalmatians (1996) - The story remains in London, but Roger is Americanized and he's a video-game creator instead of a musician. He was played by Jeff Daniels, who is just whom I think of as Roger...if he were an American. Joely Richardson did well as Anita, and as for Glenn Close as Cruella DeVil...I could never explain this in a million years, and I won't even try. She was good, though. The hi-jinks that Horace and Jasper went through this time around lent themselves perfectly to writer John Hughes' "make as much money from Home Alone-style projects as possible" phase.
I missed the sequel, inventively titled "102 Dalmatians" (1999), and given the ads for it, I didn't miss much.
Perhaps the biggest insult to the film (and possibly the book, which I hope to find and read, someday) was...get ready..."101 Dalmatians: the Series". Why? Why was everyone Americanized? Why did they move the action to a farm (I guess it was that "Dalmatian Plantation" that Roger sung of at the end of the original film; nice touch)? Why was the action centered on the three most irritating puppies: Lucky, Rolly and Cadpig (Cadpig. Was she in the movie? Was she even in the book?!)? And what was the deal with that spotted chicken, Spot? Though I did happen to like how Jasper and Horace were voiced by actors well-known for their respective roles as Leonard Kosnowski and Andrew Squiggman on "Laverne and Shirley": Michael McKean and David L. Lander.
To the money-grubbing suits at Disney: For shame. FOR SHAME!!
Signed,
Lonestarr (the last angry man)

You forgot to mention the 101 Dalmations Christmas tape, which further ruined a good movie.

Yeah, why did they do a show called 101 Dalmatians and then only focus on three freakin' dogs?

I guess it sounded more mareketable than 3 Dalmations! Also, if they had focused on ALL the dogs, it would have been more confusing than an episode of ER!

True, but The Smurfs managed to do it.

I never watched the Smurphs. How many characters did they have in the series? What they should have done in the Dalmations series is have a core of main characters and have the rest of the dalmations rotate in story lines with them. But then again, that's asking an awful lot from Disney anmation, isn't it?
