Okay how many of you guys have seen the vacation movies staring Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo. I think they are great and really funny. The best one though is probably Christmas Vaction especially with the electrified cat.
so what is everyone elses favorite.

I also have to say that Christmas Vacation is my favorite, with European and Vegas not too far behind.

Vegas and europian are the best for me...whish a new one would be made. Sharing Chevy Chase's dream, aren't you? ;)

Anyways, I love the original and Vegas (just because it's so largely quotable between me and my friends), Christmas very close behind, and European, while even the star himself thinks it sucks (Chase mentions it on the DVD commentary) I find it rather funny in its cheesiness (the Pig in the Poke opening scene is just really off-the-wall, and also the ending where they kidnap Ellen  )...

I love all the Vacation movies, but I have to say that my favorite is without a doubt the first one. I just love that movie! It has some of the funniest dialogue to me in any comedy. The funeral scene alone always has me in tears from laughter! Christmas Vacation is a close second and probably has the single greatest exchange in a movie..between Clark and the woman at the mall.

"Tis the season to be Merry"
"Well that's my name"
"No ****" :D

Vegas and European Vacation are also very good, but European is probably my least favorite out of them all.

I haven't seen the Vegas Vacation one, but I did see the other three - and the first is the best, without any doubt in my mind. It's just the typical, cross-country vacation where absolutely anything and everything goes wrong.

I just love road-trip movies, and this is probably among the best out there.

Wow I'm surprised only six people answered, I should have added a poll to it to see which one everyone likes the most. Oh well. Well just to make it interesting why don't we also talk about our favorite line from one of the movies.

From Vegas Vacation.

Cousin Eddy: Yeah where can I get some damn bait.

A mod can add a poll (providing that one stumble across the thread).

Vacation (1983): The original, and the best. If there's one thing John Hughes is a grand master at, it's road trip movies. Clark's mental breakdown towards the end solidifies this one as a timeless classic. It also features a cameo from John Hughes' good luck charm, John Candy.
European Vacation (1985): I believe this one wasn't written by John Hughes, but they paid him so they could slap his name on there anyway. I would never have guessed it, because it's a great sequel. This one started the tradition of completely revamping and recasting the Griswold children for every installment. It also contains what I consider to be one of the greatest scenes ever put to celluloid -- the part where the Griswolds are riding on the train all pissed off at each other, so they just busy themselves in electric silence. Despite all the outlandish twists in the movie, this is a scene that is staggeringly true to life.
Christmas Vacation (1989): I'm pretty sure John Hughes wrote this one, and it's one of the best Christmas movies ever made. It doesn't even matter that this is a vacation where they stay home the entire time. This is a movie that holds up to endless repeat viewings.
Vegas Vacation (1997): I don't think John Hughes had anything to do with this one, which is all the more surprising when you consider how good it is. These days, it's damn near impossible to slap together a halfway-decent sequel to anything, and comedy ain't exactly the easiest thing, but they pulled it off with this one.

So there you have it. A completely untarnished movie series. This is not counting the two direct-to-TV spin-off crapfests. I didn't see them, but they sure looked like crapfests. They were on TV, for God's sake.

Yup, a perfect quadrilogy.

These Vacation movies remind me a lot of Malcolm in the Middle. There's too much "suffering humor" in either one for my tastes. Some is fine, but getting drowned in it has more of a depressing effect than a humorous one.

The Vacation films aren't as bad as "Folks!" though. Anyone remember that? His dad has Alzhimers and his wife leaves him, and we're supposed to laugh at that. Right....

Whoa! Wait a second, there were two TV spin-offs?! I know about Cousin Eddie's Island Adventure, but what's the other one?...

EDIT: Went to good ol' IMDB, and found this (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0251581/)...holy freaking crap. Didn't know it existed. Was the family named Griswold or what?...

from the first movie, after clark has his meltdown.

Rusty: Dad you want an Aspirin or something? *rusty grabs clark's shoulder*
Clark: DON'T TOUCH!!!!!

at the end:
Clark: Did you ever take your family on a cross country vacation?
Mr. Wally: Yes, as a matter of fact, packed the whole clan up and drove to Florida.
Clark: And how would you fell if when you got there they were closed.
Mr. Wally: Well, they don't close Florida.

wretched: Vegas VacationI pretty much agree with you except I would switch VV and EV. Vegas was no where near as funny or smart as Christmas or Vacation, but it had it's charm and was a stupid movie suceeding at being a stupid movie. Eurppean was trying for the same quality that Vacation and Christmas had and failed at it.

I still love the scene with Clark punching Wally Moose in the nose and him going wonky. And of course Beverly D'Angelo's famous shower scene.:o

The best: Vacation.

Good: Christmas Vacation

Bad: Europeon Vacation

Haven't seen: Vegas Vacation.
