I'm going to list the current DVDs with the episodes from the second season of X-Men: Evolution, along with their episodes, and their original air dates:
X-Men: Evolution - Mutants Rising
- Growing Pains (9/29/2001)
- Bada-Bing Bada-Boom (10/6/2001)
- Power Surge (10/13/2001)
- Fun and Games (10/20/2001)
X-Men: Evolution - Powers Revealed (season 2-volume 2)
- Beast of Bayville (10/27/2001)
- Adrift (11/3/2001)
- On Angel's Wings (12/15/2001)
- African Storm (11/17/2001)
X-Men: Evolution - Enemies Unveiled (season 2-volume 3)
- Joyride (12/1/01)
- Walk on the Wild Side (3/2/02)
- Operation: Rebirth (3/30/02)
- Mindbender (1/26/02)
I'm guessing "Mutants Rising" could be volume 1 in this set, even though it doesn't actually say so on its spine. It lists the first four episodes from the second season in the order which they aired on TV, but what about the other two DVDs? Something seems amiss with the order in which they aired. Is it that episodes were meant to be aired in the order which the volume 2 and 3 DVDs have them, and they were inadvertently aired out of order on TV?

The DVDs are in production order, not in airdate order. That is why the airdates are a bit out of place. WB made the smart move to release them this way. A serious amount of subplots started to kick in with the second season and to have them out of order would have caused alot of confusion.

I just need to make sure I'm understanding what you're saying.
Okay, so the order in which these episodes aired on TV, is that still the correct chronological order as far as the events in the episodes go? (I didn't really pay much attention to this show until the third season.)

(I didn't really pay much attention to this show until the third season.)No, the production order is the way of events. WB aired the episodes out of order from time to time which sometimes jumbled some of the subplots. Production order is the way to watch these episodes to get the most out of them. The last five episodes of the season is when it really gets going with some neat twists and a kicking season finale. I came into this show a bit late but I'm glad these DVDs are out now to get me caught up.

So I guess the proper order of season 2 events goes this way:
Growing Pains
Bada-Bing Bada-Boom
Power Surge
Fun and Games
Beast of Bayville
Adrift
On Angel's Wings
African Storm
Joyride
Walk on the Wild Side
Operation: Rebirth
Mindbender
And that leaves...
Shadow Dance
Retreat
The HeX Factor
Day of Reckoning part 1
Day of Reckoning part 2
Why did WB air them in the wrong order anyway?

Power Surge goes before Bada-Bing Bada-Boom.

Power Surge was aired out of order because they had to go back and edit some scenes of Jean's destruction due to 9/11. On Angel's Wings was held back to air around the holidays. If memory serves me, "theme" episodes Operation: Rebirth (Wolverine meets Nick Fury and Captain America) and Walk on the Wild Side (Grrrl power!) aired during Kids' WB's "Sock Party" days.

"Operation: Rebirth" and "Walk On The Wild Side" originally aired in March 2002. How long did that Sock Party thing go? I remember seeing Sock Party commercials on Kids WB in December 2001. Did that last all the way into March 2002?
