View Full Version : You know, the long Batman ears remind me of the BB suit.

I dunno...that thought just occured to me while I was trying to get used to those ears :)

Maybe it's a part of the suit's evolution into the BB suit.
I don't know, just a guess....

i dont know why everyone is having such a hard time getting use to the long ears, i think theyre hot. i mean, for all of the 90s bats had long ears in the comics, especially on those sweet covers around the early-mid 90s, during and after knightfall. the long ears rock.

plus it freshens the character up, i mean, if he was the same design from tnba in jl, it wouldnt be as interesting. i like the ears!

I don't see anything wrong with the long ears either. It's not only a nod to the 90's Batman but the original Batman. Ever see drawing of the old version of Batman? Long ears. That's been a part of his costume for a long time.

The long ears kick! They work really good with the suit and they work good in the show. Ya don't really notice them at all.

Good eye, Wing Zero. I thought so too.

--before, the longer the better. Real bats have huge pinnas which are used to gather sound waves to direct their flight. I never liked those puny things Adam West had on his cowl--looked about as absurd as the accompanyig painted-on eyebrows....

Well I'm not exactly that old school on Batman. I grew up with BTAS so I'm really used to the BTAS/TNBA look of the ears. I also hate Adam West's ears, those were puny! But the long ears aren't bad, just takes time getting used to....

I'm with Wing Zero on this one. I always love seeing Batman with long ears, but I was introduced to Batman with BTAS and reruns of the old 60's show. And now I'm getting into the groove of the comics, and Batman has shorter ears there, too. Well, I'm just glad there's no yellow oval around the bat.

Be thankful he doesn't kill his opponents like in early Batman! He even had a gun holster back then!

Now that's just crazy!

thats a great observation!!!!!!! i never thought of that, but yeah, whats the deal?! i guess we're bound to run into a few things that dont follow the continuity exactley. too bad, that was a great line. i guess joker dies shortly after JL, so his chunk of batman memories is w/ shorter ears. or maybe he goes back to the shorter ears later in his career. peace.

Well the Joker did die before the long ears as seen in the flashback of ROTJ. I say Batman goes back to shorter ears since his old suit in the glass case has the shorter ears...GO SHORT EARS :)

I think the long ears are cooler. A little more menacing, perhaps? Ever since that Batman/Superman/Ra's episode where B-man had the longer ears I've thought it was a better look...

Well, also keep in mind that the Joker was criticizing Batman's new costume. Maybe he just prefered the shorter ears. He never said "I miss the short ears," which might imply that he never saw the JL style Batman. But he was just giving his opinion on the BB costume.

The Joker DOES see the JL style Batman becuase the Joker will be in Justice League sometime this season. But he can easily be commenting on the old versions of the costume, before the JL Batman/BB Batman versions popped up.

The reason why I don't like the ears, isn't that thier long, but they're angled outwards. If they were straight up from his head like the old suit but with the JL length he would be a scary figure in a dark alley, but the way they are now, I just dunno.

Of course I'm basing this all on still images, I'll have to wait a couple days after the premire to d/l it to see Bats in action.

Yea I think that's what gets to me most, the ANGLE of the ears...but I still want to watch JL badly :(

Here's a couple of scans, showing the long ears, weird angles, curved cowl and a thinner Batman. From the first Kane issues on Detective.
Clearly the inspiration for the "new look"
They've been all over the place with continuity, so now we've finally wound up at the beginning. And Yah! Looks great.:p

THAT'S what the "new" look reminded me of. Maybe it's a tribute to Bob Kane, going back to a more classic look on Batman...

We really have no idea whether or not the creative team is going to actually lead up to Batman Beyond. Frankly, it would be stupid to kill off the Joker.

That isn't to say, of course, that he'll be used a lot; but if they ever have an idea for a Joker-themed JL episode they'll have him to draw upon.

Who knows if BB will even be considered when doing JL stories - I doubt it. It would be neat for the JL/JLU to somehow meet.

Cool, a friend of mine and I were watching JL last Sunday and discussing the show. She also mentioned how the long ears reminded her of Terry's suit. We're thinking maybe that's why we feel this Batman looks younger to us, because it reminded us of Terry.

This can be set after TNBA and before The Joker died. Who says Batman can't experiment? He's done it a lot in the comics. From black and gray, to blue and gray, to black, to black and gray...you get the point. There's nothing that says Batman couldn't change his ears back...obviously he did...
