They are not the only anime studios but they have been making some of the most known anime out there. TOEI made DB/Z/GT, Sailor Moon, Saint Seya, One Piece, Voltron, Getter Robo, Fist of the North Star, Maple Town Stories (not to mention co-worked with Hasbro/Sunbow on Transformers & G.I Joe) and more. Shogagukhan did Pokemon, Hamtaro, RockMan.exe, Zoids, Doraemon, Duel Masters and more. (Not too mention the Inu-Yasha, Ranma 1/2 and Detective Conan movies.)

Both have had a rather flawed past, TOEI over-pressured Akira Toriyama especially during the production of DBZ and of course the considerably lamented DBGT. Not too mention the debacles of the dubs that are those like Sailor Moon and Saint Seya and the like. And they are sometimes given the "Hanna Barbera" reputation of spending a little too few on the animation budget as well. And there is of course that infamous bomb that is the first YGO series as well...

While Shogagukhan on the other hand hasn't been quite as riddled with problems in the past as TOEI their not exactly having all that perfect of a history as well. For starters its been said that they allowed 4Kids and the like to make do changes on what they were going to do on Pokemon. And despite the fact that they made plenty of known anime they have a surprisingly weak grasp of licenses in North America.

Shopro is not only Viz's "Sister Company" but they are also technically "Shogagukhan of America". (Which explains on how ShoPro got the rights to dub Hamtaro, Zoids and Rockman.Exe). And it really shouldn't be surprising that ShoPro is the American Shogagukhan after all Bandai and Pioneer are based on Japanese Anime Production companies. Unfortunately unlike Bandai and Pioneer, ShoPro's reputation in the industry here is a wee bit of a mixed bag. (And its debatable on whether if it would've went better if ShoPro got into dubbing during about the time Pioneer or Bandai did.) Plenty of people hated the Mega Man NT Warrior dub while a pretty good amount of them defended it. Though the dubs for Hamtaro and Zoids went pretty decently with fans. The only time that a TOEI-owned company has ever did any english dubwork is Cloverway on Sailor Moon. And the dubwork of Sailor Moon has been pretty much always considered to be rather..."mediocre" and this was no exception.

So in this Vs. match whom do you prefer?

Toei

One Piece, Dragonball/Z (despite them ruining things with GT), Digimon, and the Chrono Trigger animated sequences.

Shogagukan is a PUBLISHING company, not an animation studio. Why are you comparing them to Toei?

Take a look here...

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/company.php?id=1017 The ANN production title means they financed the series. They didn't make it though.

If Shogagukan has any rivals, they would be Kodansha and Kadokawa Shoten.

Then its rather misleading on how they give the same kind of credit to studios like TOEI which we know DOES make Anime shows.
