The figures on display for Mattel's upcoming waves of Justice League figures include Red Tornado, Starman (the Prince Gavyn version), Atom, Green Arrow, AMAZO (whose scale is off, but oh well), Dr. Fate, Elongated Man, Aquaman and Brainiac, as well as a few variants on existing figures, like battle-damaged Superman & Flash and a transparent version of J'Onn. They also have a ten inch Hawkgirl figure on display!

Those just look sweet. I definitely want Atom, Elongated Man, Starman, AMAZO (though he is indeed a bit off scale), Dr.Fate !!!, Green Arrow!!! Atom, Brainiac, That new WW with lasso!, clear J'onn... heck I want them all. Where is Aquaman though? And I hope we get more villains! :D

Okay, Aquaman looks the best out of all of them, along with Green Arrow.

It's about time they started making figures that people wanted! What took them so long? Here's hoping they'll continue making new JLU figures, as well as figures of characters from JL that were never made when JL was running... At the very least, they could split the JL/JLU figure series into five seperate mini-series, so to speak... :D
-the Justice League
-the Gotham City set
-the Injustice Gang & Secret Society
-the Apokolips set
-the New Genesis set
The possibilities for figures, vehicles, and playsets are quite endless, actually!

Super (http://www.superherotimes.com/newsarchive/000126.php) Hero Times (http://www.superherotimes.com/newsarchive/000126.php) has updated their SDCC coverage, and have posted pics of the new proposed Batman toys. And there is some incredible good news. It looks like there are only 3 new Batman variants for the next wave of figures (and three new deluxe ones.) And aside from the white-ice Batsy and the orange thing(boo), they seem to be focusing in on darker color schemes. And if that's not good enough news, we have 3 brand spanking new VILLIANS coming out! WOOT! We get a good full-body look at what Man-Bat's going to look like (grey? Hmm..), as well as a full-body shot of Bane (I've never seen a more oddly shaped body.) and our first look at FIREFLY! (I like)
And yes. Bane's red. All I can say is damn damn damnididdly damn. I do kinda like the teeth, though. But, I'm sure I'll be alone on that. Otherwise, Man-bat looks great, and the deluxe winged batman figure looks like a must. So, go see for yourself. You'll smile a little, then you'll gag a little. It's to be expected.

Freeze is in desperate need of A.) goggles...B.) a helmet...that big block of ice wrapped around his head is bound to melt quickly. One 'splosion and he's kapput. and C.) a little more...age. I've never visioned Mr. Freeze as a...young bold looking guy. Granted, the design kinda leaves a lot for the imagination as far as his real physical appearance goes....but the round shapely figure suggests he's a bit too young. Nothing beats Timm's dark angular old and bitter looking freeze. Especially when he's walking on spider legs....

Freeze's suit looks pretty good from what I can see of it, however, I'm not enthusiastic about that big lump of ice on his head...
I need to see Firefly animated! I can't make a judgement on that figure, as I don't know what that ugly tank on his back will look like in the series.
Man-bat looked far more impressive on the comic cover, however that is a very nice figure as far as the wings go!
As for Bane... He's red. Enough said.
I haven't looked at all the animated show pictures yet, but Alfred is looking good! Penguin looks better then he did in the comic and Catwoman seems to have the HUSH style goggles going on. Although, they don't look right on the loose mask imo (at least it doesn't seem that tight)

Mr. Freeze. Worst. Design. Ever.
EDIT: It's official. Bruce Wayne's design sucks. He looks like Jackie Chan from Jackie Chan Adventures.
Um.. how? The headshape is NOTHING like Jackie's, and the eyes seem based on the more recent variations of Bruce in Static Shock and Justice League with the colored pupils, he simply dotted them. Jackie certainly doesn't have a nose that large and... square. I think you're just going into this with a pre-set opinion.

Bane is the first Batman design I don't agree with. Though he certainly looks intimidating and creepy (which is what The Batman villains should look like, if we're dealing with Batman when he's less confident and prolific), he also.. looks like the Joel Schumaker Bane from Batman and Robin. Not a good thing.

Indeed. I like the Joker, love Man-Bat, Penguin's ok...but Bane? He, quite frankly, looks like a gorilla. Noteably in this (http://69.93.119.2/photosSHTC/data/571/1DSCN0013.JPG) picture--it is a figure, but...he literally looks like a gorilla. Thick torso, arms and spindly waist and ankles. I don't know how that things standing up, to be honest...
As for Bruce looking like Jackie Chan--he may bare resemblances, but how that makes it immediately "suck" is beyond me. I never saw anything wrong with Jackie Chan's design, so maybe it's just me...

A little off topic, but since they're attached to all the links...anyone else notice the new grey/blue batman figure in the "comic" Batman toy line? Aside from the fantastic Bane(with teddy bear!) and Scarecrow figures...we're getting a brand new Batman with 26 points of articulation!!!!!!!
Mattel must have finally smacked their shareholders into allowing them to do their jobs right. Here we have the biggest and best variety of DC characters in the Timm animated style from JLU, the animated Batman line is getting more villians, less neon. Oh, and the main Batman line isn't full of pure crap anymore. Plus, we not only finally have elbow-jointed figures, but a 26-poa BATMAN.
Mattel....thy name shall be redemption one day...if only you keep this up.

If that's the one standing next to an articulated Batgirl that you're talking about; that's from the Microman(?) series from Japan. It's a Japanese import.
The Transformers fans are really jazzed about it because their "Kicker" guy is also a Microman(?) and it makes them hope that, like, the whole series of these supremely articulated action figures that are somehow related to the Transformers are coming here from overseas.
I doubt it, myself, but hey who knows.
Then-again, it's yet another Batman action figure.
My apologies for going off topic.

Okay...
...Mattel has stepped up and is FINALLY trying to produce a variety of figures...
...MY problem is...that they all look like Superman. Amazo, Fate, Green Arrow...they all have the hulking torsos, skinny legs and no real character to them...don't get me wrong, I'm all for "model sheet" poses, but wouldn't differenciating the stances of the characters make them more unique? For example, that Green Arrow is standing with an arrow in one hand and a bow in the other. Don't know about the rest of you, but I was hoping to see his arms moulded in such a way that he could actually "shoot" an arrow. And seeing that design drawing of the recent Wonder Woman figure only makes me long for the days when Hasbro was willing to put Catwoman in a semi-crouching position. The Wondie in this line would bear no resemblance to a mannequin if the sculptors took some inspiration from that drawing.
Am I happy to see some new faces? YES YES YES!!! I just wish they didn't look quite so much like all the others. Hopefully Mattel will take some time to fix Wondie one of these days (How about a longer torso, functional legs and no more chicken arms?), help all the newbies to stand straight and give some sense of identity to these figures. They're all starting to look the same.
I'm definately looking forward to seeing Zatanna, Supergirl, Thanagarian Armor Shayera and Hro, Joker, Dr Destiny, Cheetah, Ares and Circe. These heroes need villains...
Still this is a good sign. As Fone Bone said, "Timm was right" and amen for that.
...and is it just me or is J'onn the only one of them who wouldn't need a headset to communicate with the Leaguers?
Thanks for the pictures folks...

WB animation panel-they showed clips of TT, JLU, and The Batman. I missed the TT scene but got to see the JLU preview, it was great showed Mongul and superman and Supes beat the crap outta him painfully. The CG looked good, better than previously. Then they showed a fight scene with Green arrow, Supergirl, the atom and GL fighting some giant monster. They also showed a whole The Batman episode, it looked real good. Great action, great sound plus the fight scene between batman and man-bat was great. BT talked about "Starcrossed" and JLU and the basic stuff. I really liked the Batman episode and the JLU preview.

Okay, here's the run down from tha Panels yesterday, there will be some small spoilers..
This is from our Staffer RiskDogg
"TEEN TITANS" PANEL: Basically an introduction video which featured a new music video of the theme with crazy Japanese girls. Then most of the cast came out:
Ron Pelrman As Slade
Tara Strong as Raven
the names escape me, but the voices of Robin (menville i think) and Beast Boy. The director and Glen M. were there. SPOILERS THEY SAID: Season 3, we'll see a return of Slade in a weird/cool way, a story around cyborg, and a huge villain appearance, Brother Blood!
Season 4: Story about Raven. Im pretty sure Tara whispered "daddy", but who knows.
JLU PANEL: They showed some long clips from the new episodes, and then BRUCE TIMM came on stage! He joined Dwayne McDuffie, Stan Berkowitz, and some others (best moment of my life) (I was in front row http://216.40.206.219/boardimages/smiley.gif ) Timm then tried to remember and list all of the new villains we'll be seeing, where he said the best line of the day: (he was trying to remember the new villains "We got a million heroes and no villains, it's like the toy line!" -Bruce Timm (the crowd erupted, Sam Register, Head of WB Animation yelled jokingly 'Hear that Mattel!)So some new villains: Villains: Superman/Apokoplyps characetrs (Granny something, Kalaba something, Amazo the android comes back, Luthor
Bruce Timm said something about Gail Simone writing a Huntress/The Question/Green Arrow/Black Canary story but he might have been joking.
They ARE doing a Starcrossed sequal and the Thanagarians come back
They had some cool clips but we werent allowed to film, one had Batman and Green Arrow talking in the new HQ when they see Black Canary and Green Arrow is attracted LOL
"THE BATMAN" PANEL! The best of the day! They played a FULL episode with Man-Bat! It was AWESOME!! The show is like MTV Spiderman Content mixed with new-age graphics (NO ANIME) Turns out the episode was NOT the pilot, but the 4th episode. They said they were ahead of schedule and had about 5 episoded to choose from to show at the Con and they chose that one. ***** SPOILERS*****The intro is cool, quick and cool music (no lyrics, just kinda a guitar ballad)
Okay, from here is is a LONG detailed description of the Episode, so I'll link to our site. If you want to read go there, if not.. thats cool too! We will get pics up today.
Everything sounds very cool!

The female figures have really thin legs and arms. Yes, even thinner than the male figures' legs. Joints would be really difficult to make work.

Whoa! Those JL figures rock! I'll definately be getting Atom, Aquaman, Dr. Fate, Green Arrow, AMAZO and Brainiac.
My main gripe, though, is if Mattel can give decent articulation to the new figures, why can't they do the same for Batman and Superman figures? I'm tired of seeing Bats and Supes with big bulbous pins sticking out of their arms and legs.

The figures for the JLU and TBM looked good, my only complaint was that there was no "pre pump/venom" Bane or a MR. Freeze figure. Because the scenes they were showing at Mattel's booth showed a short clip of a first encounter with bane before and after he pumps up.
So that was a Starman, I thought it was an oddly colored Booster Gold.
Did anyone ask why Cartoon Network banned Wild Cards?
according to my sources at cn, "wild cards" HASN'T been banned....since they re-run the episodes pretty much in order, it just hasn't come up again in rotation, due to the vagaries of jl's "on again/off again" scheduling status....

The panel for The Batman sounded very painful - it was forced to an end according to Toonzone's coverage. Ouch!
Despite being one of the folks less than thrilled with The Batman's first showing, I should still point out that its panel's premature finale had little to do with the quality of the show. Rather, the WB animation panel had an hour and a half to get through three shows (Teen Titans, JLU, The Batman), and Goghen and Capizzi decided to use most of their allotted time by showing a full episode. If Titans and JLU were less popular and people asked less question, maybe The Batman would've had more room to stretch, but that's obviously not the case. :)
Not that I'm entirely contradicting your call on the panel being "painful". Goghen and Capizzi spent most of their time fielding questions that were in direct (and unfavorable) comparison to Timm's classic series.
An interesting sidebar from the Comic Book: The Movie panel: Tom Kenny, the new Penguin on The Batman, gave us a quick rendition of the character that pretty much screamed "Burgess Meredith". Then he confirmed our immediate suspicions on the inspiration of the voice and told us the story of how he got the job: at his audition, they told him that they did not want anything Meredith-like about his voice. So he went through three varieties on the character, and when they asked for one more, he decided "What the hell?" and pulled out a Burgess impression. When he was called back, they pulled out the tape of the audition, said "This is the one we like," and fast-forwarded it to his Burgess Meredith clip.

Nope. That's not correct. BS&P protects CN from frivolous lawsuits and letters. Where on earth did you even hear that? Whenever someone says "parents got mad" it always seems they're just making it up to stir up the hornet's nest.
IMO, I assumed the BS&P frowned upon the real-world setting of the episode.
according to my sources at cn, "wild cards" HASN'T been banned....since they re-run the episodes pretty much in order, it just hasn't come up again in rotation, due to the vagaries of jl's "on again/off again" scheduling status....
As I recall (I don't have the old revised grids for Q3 2003-Q1 04), the episode was skipped over in the encore run. It was originally scheduled, but then was taken off. Maybe that's changed now, but at one point it was withheld from broadcast. :/

Well, I didn't make that up. Back when the episode aired tons of parents e-mailed Dwayne McDuffie with comments like "How could you air that"... and such. Hence, they were foolishly upset. Now we know that seems not to be the reason, as it isn't being withheld according to b.t., but I thought it might have been.

I'm surprised that they could research and find Dwayne's personal email address since it's not mentioned anywhere in the credits. Also doesn't seem like anyone raised a stink over all of the love angles in Starcrossed.

You can e-mail him from his site.
And, I guess the love angle reason was wrong anyway.
There was negative feedback about the GL/Hawkgirl kiss? From who?
ToddmanThis isn't much of an example, but I remember this one moron at DC's message boards who was a racist and absolutely hated the HG/GL pairing. When Wild Cards aired, she was pissed to say the least

Thats sad people need to get over it.On a side note was this the first ever interacial animated kiss on a american tv show? Im sure its not but im curious. I think the first ever interacial kiss on tv period was Kirk and Uhura on Star Trek.

Did Commissioner Barbara Gordon ever kiss her husband, D.A. Sam Young, on Batman Beyond?
If not, I know Terry McGinnis kissed Dana Tan, and that would have also been interracial.

Are you guys forgeting when Bugs Bunny kiss other guys and aliens now and then in Looney Tunes. People are having probblems when a man kiss a women with wings but don't care when a guy rabbit kisses a human man. Geez people come on, if you were GL you would do the same thing and kiss Hawkgirl, so what she has wings, as long as shes hot theres no reason not to.

It was more about GL being black and Hawkgirl being white.

Well, if Cluemaster quite literally is a Riddler fan-boy and copied him, it COULD be interesing to see how that turns out :)

Personally I cannot comprehend the mentality by which a parent who dislikes the content of a TV show would sooner write letters and campaign with other soccer moms to make the show change it's content (or force it off the air) rather than simply stop their kids from watching it. In my mind it's much easier to not let your kid watch a show than to say "I don't want my kid watching this, therefore I'm going to make sure that no one's kids watch it."
The only interpretations I can make on that kind of action are:
A) You're being grotesquely selfish, trying to get rid of a show that thousands/millions of people enjoy and don't have a problem with, all so that your kid can't defy your orders and watch the show when you're not around to police him
B) You think you're standing up for all the other parents out there who are also outraged by a show's content, or "should be" outraged. In reality, you're telling other adults how to raise their children, and spreading your ideals about the selfishness in reason A to other adults
C) You're aggressively attempting to suppress the speech of others. When the government does this, it's censorship. When corporations do this, it's usually either immoral, scandalous, or anticompetitive. Do parents think they represent a cause that's above all this? If I were to tell the parents in a Catholic family that they're doing a bad job raising their kids to be good Catholics, they'd be mighty angry. They should be just as angry if I tell them they're being bad parents by letting their kids watch power rangers.

Spellbinder, eh? With no continuity to mess with, I guess using BB villains is fair game. Spiffy keen...

Well, the original Spellbinder from the comics first appeared in Detective Comics #358. He was an art forger with no secret identity who was able to hypnotize people into seeing realistic illusions. The BB villain was a more fleshed-out interpretation of that character.

You're right. Unfortunately, there are lots of gene pool skimmings like that out there  Storm and Wolverine kissed in the old X-Men cartoon. I don't remember it being anywhere near as passionate as Lantern and Hawkgirl.

Maybe the crew behind the series has decided to combine traits from both Riddler and Cluemaster and create a new character and call him Cluemaster; maybe the episode airs after a Riddler spotlight and the Riddler will show up in the episode; or maybe they have decided to give Cluemaster an origin that doesn't directly tie into that of The Riddler which seems to be the most likely.
* The Cluemaster episode involves a former game show contestant who kidnaps the other contestants he lost to and stages his own game-show studio in his basement. [website name removed]

Wow, someone at Mattel finally woke up and realized that endless repeats of Batman, Superman, Flash, and Green Lantern are not helping the line any.
Overall this is great news. Though of course, I have a few nitpicks. Doc Fate is too gold and shiny (and his waist is really skinny) AMAZO you'd think would be a pretty hard character to mess up but he's way to short. Green Arrow looks pretty good. Atom too though he's just a Flash repaint with a slightly altered head scuplt. It's funny, it took JLU to get us some JL villians. Brainiac, AMAZO, Ultra-Humanite are all back logs from JL. Now if we can just get a Sinestro, Killer Frost, and Vandal Savage I can die a happy man. :)
Ten inch Hawkgirl is very good news too.
That Bane makes me want to vomit. I'm right now just hoping that's a bad sculpt and not an accurate representation of what he looks like on the show.
