Just barely caught it at 7 when I turned from the news. I said "What is this?" It sounded new, but was the asult Tm & Jerry, not the Kids. Could it be the movie, I thought? Tom was chasing Jerry around a house, and landed on the owner's car as he returned. The man comments "Yo make a better hood ornament than a cat". I saw the closing credits and it was from 2000. (So it obviously wasn't the movie).
I had no idea there was a new Tom & Jerry last year. Are there others?

sounds like "The Mansion Cat". It was made for Boomerang not long ago. Too bad I missed that...my cable went out during a storm and didn't come back until 2PM this afternoon, and from what I've glanced at the marathon hasn't had much else of any interest...same old overplayed tame Tom and Jerry. Not that Tom and Jerry are bad, they just get tiresome after a while if you see the same 20 or so all the time.

You mean "Mansion Cat", the new cartoon made that used Joe Barbera's voice for the home owner.
It is the only new one, and I was just about to make a revue on it, so I suppose I'll do it here.
I thought it was really mediocre, things just didn't gel together right, it's no classic Tom and Jerry.
I had a big problem with the music, it was corny, stereotypical cartoon music that didn't really accentuate any of the action. It seemed to stay at the same tone throughout the cartoon. In a cartoon scored by Scott Bradley, there is fantastic music, that can go from subtle to rather loud, perfect for accentuating gags and destruction. Even Eugene Poddany did better in the Jones cartoons. The timing of the cartoon wasn't too good either, not enough fast action, or outrageous things going on. A stronger musical score *might* have helped this, but not that much.
The backgrounds were bad, more suited for Yogi Bear than for Tom and Jerry, nicely drawn rounded characters put on flat exaggerated backgrounds. It's like Bugs Bunny in an Ed Edd and Eddy cartoon. It would have worked in a dream sequence,or if the characters had mental troubles, but not here. The only point of interest would be the old pictures of H-B staff in a few of the backgrounds.
Some of the gags were okay, but nothing to write home about.
I give it a ** our of *****.
