A near-quote from a possible fire-fighter's widow.

Random thoughts on America and its support system:

It seems that after the brief tide of cheering for America, it's all dying down. While dissent was inevitable, I never imagined how much people would be about it. TV, comic strips, radio, other countries...I can't tell whether they're tired of it or if they've just lost faith that there's any hope of surviving this.

Now I'm not a blind man when it comes to our history. I know we helped Osama back in the 80s against the Soviets...but I don't believe for one minute that we shouldn't be angry at him. I call it "The Soured Friendship Theory". You know, you help a guy out. You're friendly and he's friendly. You give the guy a few things and you help him on his way if he's having a hard time. You expect that things will be okay between you and him...then you get stabbed in the back and screwed over. I should know...it's happened with me a few times. I'm angry at Bin Laden, and I know what theory he was using. It's this one.

I don't know whether to laugh at "The Daily Show" or not watch it anymore.

Why is my mind saying that we're all just statistics waiting to happen?

I don't like Bill Maher.

Th-th-that's all, folks...I hope not, though.

Sincerely,

John "Captain Caps" Kilduff

Well, the Daily Show is right on. The "other" media is putting way too many people in a panic. I am deeply sorry for those people who lost someone due to any anthrax situations, but the media is beating that story to death! I've stopped watching "real news" and watch the Daily Show: America Freaks Out! instead...

And I too hate Bill Maher. His inteligence is just slightly above that of a snail. No, wait I hate to make the snail look bad. He's just a mouth with a body, saying whatever he feels like. Maybe he and Richard Gere should get hitched and buy an island together. Okay, sorry for the rant. Return to your lives. people!!!

What's a "near-quote?" That's a new one on me...

--also that we were friendly with Josef Stalin in WWII as well, even though he'd been cozy with Hitler previously, and, despite the breaking of their nonaggression pact, still admired ol' Schickelgruber. Stalin actually had a private vault of German memorabilia and dreamed of the day the two would rule the world together after the war. A political cartoon of the day showed the two as a married couple, with the caption "Will it last?" (why Stalin was wearing the bridal dress I don't want to know--eeaaauughh).
The enemy of your enemy is your friend. Of course, once the immediate threat ceases oftentimes so does the friendship. And like Caps, I've been betrayed/seen a few fair-weather friends turn bitterly on me at a word...so I understand about caution in picking allies....
