I think Solidus Snake had noble intentions throughout MGS2, he wanted to liberate the country from the Patriots, not make America a country he ruled, granted he did plan on a nuclear strike, but his intentions were somewhat noble.

Trying to figure out the plot of Metal Gear Solid is like trying to figure trying to figure out the plot of the last two Matrix movies. I'm sure it can be done, but why bother?

Yeah, but he was also a traitorous mofo. He was gonna let Dead Cell rot, and killed Olga for the hell of it. Had he shared what he knew of The Patriots, he'd make a lot of allies and save himself a lot of fighting. Of course, if he had all those guys helping him, they wouldn't let him replace The Patriots as the country's leader (which was most likley his goal all along...like father, like clone.)
