Fresh from the VSDA show special issue of Video Store magazine comes the news that Shout! Factory has licensed Home Movies from Soup2Nuts and will release Season 1 on November 16 in a 3-disc set. Shout! Factory wasn't able to give us any more information, but they're very excited about working on the set

Oooh, First Home Movies DVD set. Sweet news. Of course, Season One Isn't my favorite season, but hey, if the extras are good, I might consider getting it. Can't wait to find out what they are. Can't wait to hear what Landstander has to say about this.

So I guess Scholastic said "Daaaaah what's this DVD thing?" and sold the rights. Smart move.
Very good news. :D
I will be anxiously waiting this release. Hopefully the set has some goodies too.

I'm hoping for types of extras that haven't been invented yet.

I'll be looking forward to this, I've heard good things about Shout's History of Soccer set.
Haha.
Brendon Small, who created and does voices for the show, also has this to say at his website:
Hey friends, we're working on the dvd we'll have it released between now and 2012. So, plug your dvd player in and get ready!
Awesome news.

Like the ability to create new mini episodes? You know, with like a background generator, and character models, and using a special device to put your voice inside the DVD and allow the characters to speak (or for them to have a bunch of sayings you can pick from). That would be fun.

I hope so too, so they can realize the other Seasons on DVD.
Thinking about it, I wonder if Adult Swim will promote this at all a couple of weeks before it premieres. It is still one of they're shows after all. And one of they're originals (in a sense, since they funded for a great deal of the episodes) too.

It's not really their show. It's Soup2Nuts' show. Adult Swim was merely renting it. For them to promote it would be pointless because they don't make any money off of the sales. If Shout! Factory paid them to advertise it, then they would.

Yes! This is my favorite show, and It's just about time. I've been waiting for these DVD's for a while.
I'm definetly picking this up the day of its release.

It would still be good cross-promotion for HM reruns... maybe they could cut SF a small break on ad costs or something, or mention the release in the cards as opposed to doing a full-blown promo. I mean, AS doesn't get a cut of Outkast CD sales either, but they sure pimped THAT overrated hack act hard enough in the cards a while back.

Great news! Now I can finally witness the first season for myself and maybe get closer to understanding...

FYI, Shout! Factory has also produced Spike & Mike animation festivals, Freaks & Geeks, and SCTV for DVD, so they've got some experience with them. Better than if Scholastic were making the DVDs, I have a feeling.
This is great news- finally we get some squiggle in our DVD players. :D Now all we need are Dr. Katz sets.

Ads in the cards would probably make the most sense.

So  makes its way to Toonzone. And yet I am not surprised that this was Landstander's response.
As for the dvd release, that's some sweet news. I hope it does well. :)

Thanks for the info-- that gives me a good feeling as well. Especially knowing they're the guys that did Spike & Mike-- I have the two-disc box set with the Sick and Twisted and Classic discs, and it's good stuff. It's good to know that HM fell into the hands of some guys who have a history of appreciation for and good treatment of quirky animated properties, rather than some big soulless corporation.

I have never seen season 1 but I'm thinking I'll still like the later seasons more than the first season. If they release more than 1 DVD or all the seasons I'll be sure to buy this one.

Yes.
:D
This requires a signature change. NOW. After this, the DVD sets better freaking come out within at least four months of each other...that way we're finished with the series in October 2005...

I didn't think that this wonderfully subtle and super hilarious comedy would get a dvd box set. It is now getting one. Hooray.
