He thinks that the show's always been hilarious, I told him not so since you'll notice that the older episodes are funny with a plot, while the newer episodes are more stupid funny. He agreed and he says he thinks its because they had to adapt it for modern audience. I now wish I slapped him for that.

A few years ago, some of the people in charge decided that they were going to aim some of the humor at a kiddie audience. This has been specifically stated by the former executive producer Mike Scully. Of course, this was unnecessary because older episodes already appealed to both kids and adults anyway.
However, it's not like people who still enjoy the newest episodes are stupid. I know many highly intelligent people on other boards who enjoy the new episodes and could give cogent, well-justified reasons why.
But I don't think anyone in their right mind actually prefers the newer episodes to the old ones.

^That's the thing at one point he actually said the show was better now then it was then. And I looked at like a "What the hell are you thinking kinda look" He gets better grades than me, but he don't know his Simpsons
