View Full Version : The Batman: The Same, But Different?
Hey,
Some of the posters thoughts over at the Batman: Man-Bat thread got me wondering about this question.
How original should thier stories be? Will this be a case of the series being crap because it is not faithful to the original comics, or should they stick to them as much as possible, much as Batman: The Animated Series did?
Comments?

IMO, although it would be nice to stick to the source as much as possible, as long as the changes are better, I dont mind. It's when the changes are for worse that the project sucks. The Ultimate Marvel line and the first Batman movie series are good examples of both types of changes, respectively.

You know, hardcore fanboys hated BTAS when it first premiered. I remember hearing "hey! where's his muscles?!"
The stories and characters in the DCAU are their own. Some of the stories are adapted from the comics..some aren't. They did a lot of their own tweaking to create a NEW universe. I think we forget this now that is so established. Many of the origins and other things aren't quite comic accurate....and honestly, who really cares?!
The Batman DOES have updated villians AND some updated origins. If we never updated Batman villians, then we'd still have 'em looking as they did in the 40s....I mean if you want to complain about screwing up characters, lets complain about the Crisis for awhile. lol.
I just want good solid stories and to be entertained as a batman fan. Period. I don't mind a new look. something fresh. THey're not trying to replace BTAS...NO ONE can do that. They just creating their own new universe. I, for one, am willing to give it a chance.

I hope they just don't go crazy about trying to climb out of B:TAS shadow or trying to distance it's self from it that much. I have to say I'm a bit worried about this series. The new Joker design literally made me sick to the stomach, the Batman design is "ok" as is the penguin design and the Man Bay design actually reminds me of a cross between the B:TAS Man Bat and the villain from Basil the Great Mouse Detective, which is by no means a bad thing :p
On the other hand, the cast list looks great! And it's good to see they are playing with some minor/new villains other then what was used in B:TAS, so maybe it will be good, maybe not. I haven't actually seen B:TAS in years now, so I'd welcome any Batman animation with open arms :)
Oh and btw, a little off topic, but will Legion of Gotham be doing an evolution chart for more characters? As I quite like that idea :)
