After reading through an old diary, and seeing a picture of a boy from her dreams, Cornelia has a plan to talk to Elyon, but Will doesn't approve of it. After talking to Irma and Hay Lin, and getting laughed at, Cornelia angrily walks off, and enters the bookstore, where she finds Vathek. She follows him into Metamoor, where she nearly drowns until she is pulled up by Caleb, who is the leader of a group of Metamoorian rebels. Cornelia realizes that Caleb is the boy from her dreams. After hearing Elyon outside being taken prisoner by Phobo's guards, Cornelia helps her, and the two use their combined powers. Unfortunately, their combined powers create another hole in the Veil. The other Guardians enter through the new portal, and enter near a palace. They enter and see pictures of royal women in the hallway before the place is flooded. Caleb explains the Light of Meridian is not dead, and presents Elyon. Elyon has a vision where she encounters the queens of Meridian, who explain that she is the rightful heir to the throne, and Elyon encounters her real mother. The rebels fight the guards of Phobos and win. Cedric arrives and tells Elyon it is time for her coronation. Cornelia says goodbye to Caleb, getting emotional since she may not see him again. Elyon goes with Cedric and meets Phobos.

This book appears to be the turning point in the first arc, with Elyon discovering she is indeed a member of the royal family in Meridian. In the cartoon, I imagine Elyon will be evil for much, much longer, with she and Cedric devising plan after plan to defeat the Guardians. This story I imagine won't take place until around episode 20 of the show, but that's just a guess. Cedric gets the standard "This is your last chance" after barely escaping punishment from Phobos. Such a speech usually indicates that the character is about to take a more permanent vacation, usually in a big battle with the heroes of the story, and Cedric is likely to share the same fate IMO. Phobos, to me, seems like your "generic, run of the mill, super evil villain that desires power more than anything" character. I remember such a character being seen in Digimon season 4- Lucemon. Not that it's bad- it's just so super-standard for these kind of stories. Also, the whole Cornelia/Caleb storyline seems too much like the plot from your typical weekday afternoon soap opera. I would have preferred something different between Cornelia and Caleb, rather than the "it's destiny that they met" storyline we got here.

Well, we've reached the good stuff. No more fooling around, it's time to get serious.

I do agree with Tommy on the Elyon thing. Since there's only a handful of books encompassing the first arc, and there's gonna be twice as many episodes when the series goes into animated form in Feburary, I also expect the "Evil Elyon" story to go longer than this.

The Cornelia/Caleb storyline kicks in here, and it's perhaps the most dramatic piece in the entire first arc of the comics. These two will end up being the "Romeo & Juliet" of the series, as something rather nasty happens to Caleb before too long.

Pretty much everything I'd have to say here is in a blog entry I did a while back:

It was good but by no means my favorite so far. Read that if you're interested in my opinion of it.

In fact, the relationship between Cornelia and Caleb is explored in much more detail in Books 13-24, the second "season" of the series.

By the way, don't you just love Will trying to change her image in this issue?
