View Full Version : I've seen enarly all episodes of Conan

And lemme tell you, the truth can shove it...
I essentialy used whatever means nessicary to see these episodes, be it primitive VHS, quasi-illegal downloads, copied fansubs/DVDs, etc.
You get the point I saw a vast majority of the episodes(300+)
that's around 150 hours spent watching this
nearly a week's worth of time spent over the course of a few months watching this series...and now I hate it.
Why?
Mianly because like such other long winded series(Pokemon, Inu-Yasha, CCS) there is the whole freshness ascpect that needs to be intact, While Inu-Yasha and CCS don't go over 200, Detective Conan does and honestly cases begin to repat themselves just in slightly different situations. It turns bland, dull, and quite frankly un-interesting. Murders, robberies, all that crap is just there but it's boring by around episode 150, there is nill character developement, Conan still hasn't reverted back to his former self, and it's the same old thing, infact you could skip series of episodes and you wouldn't have missed anything.
I only sorta liked it in the beginning, but this venture didn't really cost as much as the series of DVDs will when they are released however.
So in end point if you havn't watched Conan regularly don't start, you probably won't be able to finish it...ever....considering that it's still going on...
Usualy I finish things I start, but this, this is somthing that will have you up in arms if you collect the DVDs, 3 episodes per disc....you need a whole shelf just for all 100+ Discs
Atleast Lupin III has an end point that is of reasonable length as does inu-yasha which is already a 1/3+ over(the DVDs are on the Peachman which marks the beginning of Season 3) so that's finishable...

Heh...I remember when I complained that Rachel didn't find out who Conan was on that one episode where she suspected that he was Jimmy, people objected and said it was way too soon for her to find out, but I bet looking back on that episode after seeing a hundred or so, they'd wish that she found out just so they could develop the characters somewhat.

Wow, 150 hours...
Thank goodness I have nothing to look out for in this serie because nothing changes. I wonder how it keeps popular in Japan, same with Doraemon.

You're supposed to enjoy these things little by little, not all at once. It's like gorging yourself at a buffet and getting so sick you never want to eat again. Sucks to be you, I guess. I'm probably still gonna enjoy seeing all of them. 'Course, I've seen nearly all the Pokémon episodes (outside of Japan) and that's over 300 already and I ain't tired of it, but then I'm also easily entertained and could care less if the plot is rehashed.

Artimus....you watched 150 freakin hours of Conan straight through!!!!!Thats insane! No wonder you got bored by some of the cases, we watch it once a day and dont have to worry about cases we saw 5 hours ago being the same. The point is that watching it straight thru would cause you to find it boring, but watching it like we do wouldn't make it that way.

You're supposed to enjoy these things little by little, not all at once.I definately would agree with you, Ferquin. Yes, moderation, my friends, is a good thing. An episode or two here, another episode later on... no rush. Just enjoy 'em every so often. Overkill can be the direct path to ruining a good thing.
Too much of a good thing always leaves one wanting less.

That dependency on foreign oil problem needs to be solved too.

The whole point of the show is how he's stuck in the body, but he'll somehow find how to solve the case still. Watching so many, I could see how it can see repetitious, definitely must've been a lot of effort to watch all of those..
Usualy I finish things I start, but this, this is somthing that will have you up in arms if you collect the DVDs, 3 episodes per disc....you need a whole shelf just for all 100+ DiscsI think Funi said it was going to be 4 episodes per disc. That would still be quite a lot but not as much. As for me, I'll probabl wait for cheap boxsets if those ever come into existence.

I don't think Gigan watched the series straight through. He watched them over the past few months, if I understand correctly.Still that is a large series being viewed in a short period of time. He basically watched what is eqaul to the entire run of The Simpsons, something that takes nearly an entire a year if you view an episode each day in a smaller period of time. I love CC but am not a die hard fan, I never even post in the talkback. In essence it is just something that fills a late night void for me. With Bebop, FLCL, Inuyasha, Big O, and other anime I have to keep watching the episodic nature of a show that never changes is sort of welcome as something I can watch every now and then. I really do hope the ending to the series is good.

Anyway, seriously - even the most interesting series (especially with more than 26 episodes) probably shouldn't be viewed in single clumps... I mean, half the fun of Conan is waiting 24 hours (or a weekend) to see what the next case will be.

That and constant posts about why the rest of us should stop liking the show.
I never listened/read a fan sub, but if I did one it would probably be on par with Duel Masters. Like on last Fridays show before he shot blood out his nose, I would have had Rachel say something about her EPT test coming out positive.
So I don't know how reliable any details from oone of those would be.

Why some of these Japanese series have been so popular that they go beyond 200 episodes is kinda odd.

I knew he was lying out of his ass when he said "nil character development." I bet he doesn't even know the characters that get introduced later on. Or the fact that the Black Organization returns and new people Conan comes to know are revealed to be members of that organization.
So why Gigan? For attention? Just to look cool?

Detective Conan is not a "marathon" anime. It's not an anime where you want to see what happens in the next episode and in the next episode and the next and how it ends. The point here is to enjoy the journey more than the goal. It's something the whole family could expect to sit down every Sunday and still enjoy even years later or even with missed episodes. Where one could just relax and watch and not be too confused what's going on.
One could say it's like America's sitcoms (Cheers, M.A.S.H., etc), except it's about detective stories (Murder She Wrote, Matlock, etc). I'd say like The Simpsons to most Americans, except there's a lot more progress/changes/evolution in DC over the course of 300+ eps.
Too bad that Lostrune couldn't have been here to pwn his ass.
Huh, what? Have I ever done that?

150 hours I said I spent over the course of a few months, while I can stay up for days, I'd never spend 150 hours just watching a show
I however did watch CCS straight through, well most of it, volumes 1-15
I still need both movies and volumes 16,17, and 18
so that clocked in to around 30 hours, 2 hours a disc being 4 episodes and all
conan being 300+ half hour episodes, just divide that in half and that's how many hours...
There's no light at the end of the tunnel for Conan. none, zip, ziltch
go back while you still can, abandon all hope ye who enter
yes some episodes i did watch in Japanese, granted I didn't know what the hell they were saying, I didn't use all fansubs for episodes, and some I watched out of order(because some were not available ATT and I aquired thme at a later date),
eh and 300 is an estimate I probably saw close to 280-290 really...I lost count after many dumpings of episodes do to HD space

I missed the very first episode but have seen the rest shown on Adult Swim. I guess I feel the appeal of CC starting to wear off.
There is some character development - we find out amongst the kid detectives that both Mitch and George like Amy, who in turn likes Conan. And Rachel is pining for Jimmy to come back - though I never saw their interaction in the first episode.
I think the series took off in popularity and the writers thought why mess with something that works. It would be interesting if there was some development along the lines of Jimmy getting closer to who did the shrink thing to him

He could be telling the truth... Someone before mentioned that only one group has ever fansubbed Conan up through episode 43. Well, that's not exactly right. There are at least six HK bootlegged boxes w/ three DVD's apiece. There's also five "best of" bootlegged volumes. There's also the chance that he did acquire some old VHS fansubs through trading. Anyway, that would probably get him close to 300.
I can't believe I just defended Gigan...
[Edit: Forget that. He claimed he had 'em all on his HD at one point. Impossible.]
...Of course you're going to get sick of it if you cram 150+ hours in a friggin month. Maybe, in your opinion, Conan sucks. But the rest of us like it so... we don't care how much time you spent watching it.

Gigan can't bust heads like he used to, but he has his ways. One trick is to tell us stories that don't go anywhere. Like the time he caught the ferry over to Shelbyville. He needed a new heel for his shoe. So, he decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So he tied an onion to his belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on them. 'Give me five bees for a quarter', you'd say. Now, where was I? Oh, yeah...the important thing was that he had an onion on his belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions because of the war; the only thing you could get was those big yellow ones.

The Conan thread, I figured I might as well explain it:
Initialy it was suppoed to be written in a satire/joke way inspired by a scene in Super Milk-Chan. It also was going to be the last thread under this name, because I had this idea that I was going to go thru with changing my name, but going over it the name I thought that I would change to wasn't all that great. Back in the early days of my message board hopping I had a tendency to tell fish tales some and people knew me from other boards, so I figured it was a good idea at the time to make the thread. But it turned out half-baked due to the fact that i was drained from a 12 hour course so I wasn't mentaly alert about my wording, and the second post which I was going to try and patch it so that it might appear to be in a some-what funny manner, I was pressed for time(I had to leave at 8:15) so that post was just a mess and further added fuel to the fire. So it turned out to PO a bunch of people, which wasn't initaly the intention. So it was a half-baked idea and thread that was just a bad idea to begin with. So in short, I=Sorry.
I really have nothing against Conan, and no I didn't watch all 300+ episodes
and no I didn't watch Card Captor Sakura 30 hours straight either
it won't happen agin...ever...
