View Full Version : What Are Your "Superman: The Animated Series" Memories?
Hey There Sports Fans,
With all the recent threads about Batman, and the ongoing stuff on JL/JLU and The Titans, I thought I'd talk about good ol' Superman for a change.
I remember looking at TV Guide on a random morning, and instead of seeing the usual saturday morning crap that was on back then, I saw Superman, which was about to start in 10 minutes. I hadn't heard there was a Superman cartoon, and since I loved all the other superhero cartoons on at the time, I thought I'd check it out.
I remember thinking it was weird, here in the UK, we never got a marathon/movie premiere, it aired in 3 different parts. So seeing a Superman cartoon with very little Superman in it was confusing in itself! I watched the rest of season one, and never heard of the show again until The Batman/Superman movie came out, after I thought it had been cancelled or something.
I wasn't here when Superman was "the new show", Superman had been and gone before I joined up, so I was wondering...
What are your memories of Superman? The premiere, the hype around it, and just the show itself? What's your favourite?

I was really looking forward to it. I remember I hadn't seen Batman for awhile for some reason. They had an hour-long Superman sneak preview (like they did for BB) I wanted to watch it. I tuned to the WB, long behold what I had seen was.....
.....the ending credits. I finally saw it like a month later, I really enjoyed it.

I remember hearing that my favorite character Lobo had appeared in a few episodes and then, before I'd ever even seen an episode, I saw a double video collection (2 videos in one oversized case!) for sale in the Virgin Megastore. I bought it not knowing exactly what was on it but I was over the moon to find that both of "The Main Man" episodes were on there! I liked the show as a whole - but my first memories of it were definately to do with it being incredibly cool to see Lobo in a cartoon!

I remember that I was anticipating it immensely, knowing it was from the B:TAS creative team. Then came the bad news that I was moving on the day of the premiere, almost 8 years ago now. I never got my TV hooked up in time, so I started watching from "Fun and Games" I believe. I ended up seeing "Last Son Of Krypton" not much later though and I loved it. S:TAS was just a great show, and that first season was really strong. Maybe the most consistent season of the show.

I Lucky have never missed a premiere for any of the animated DC/Timm shows. Batman, Superman, Batman Beyond and Justice League I have been there since day one.
I remember being very anxious for Timm and co's take on The Man of Steel. Having seen there excellent work on BTAS my hopes where high that there Superman would be the best animated version to date (which in my opinion he is). Everything for the most part was good. Absolutely great voice casting and smart intelligently crafted stories.
My only disappointment with the show was Superman's power level. He seemed extremely weak for the hero I had read throughout the comics. I understood that they wanted to power him down some but I thought they powered him down too much and when it came to tasks of physical strength he had extreme trouble. I recall having a hard time with planes, falling cranes hell even a guy with an attack chopper was able to hold him at bay and not only could he not avoid the bullets they were actually keeping him from advancing.
I felt as the strongest hero he shouldn't have had as much of a problem as he was depicted as having. I have to say the current JL Superman seems incredibly more powerful than the one from the STAS days. That said I still loved the STAS and if it wasn't for that show we probably wouldn't be where we are at with the Justice League.
I discovered S:TAS when I was flipping channels one day and noticed a Superman cartoon done the way Batman was done. It didn't surprise me; it was only a matter of time before they got to Superman. I think the 1st episode I saw was when Supes entered an alternate universe where Lois died. One of my favorite moments was when Mr. Mxy-whatever was teaching Clark how to pronounce his name, and pulled out a Yes album as an aid. Being a Yes fan, I thought that was cool

I had just returned from travelling, and I didn't even know there was a new Superman cartoon when I switched on the TV one morning and came across "A Little Piece of Home". I nearly soiled myself with excitement.
My first impressions were: "It's a bit angular, but the flying looks great".

I don't remember. I remember I started watching Batman in highschool, and I watched Superman as a result.

I remember when Holiday Knights first aired. It was exciting we were getting new DCAU shows. I watched Superman and Batman onward after losing touch when B:TAS was gone for a bit.
