This technically would go in the DVD forum, but I hope the mods will recognize that I stand a better chance of finding an answer to my question here.

Apparently there's an older, anime version of the Little Mermaid, made about 1975, dubbed to English and released in the US in 1979, running 74 minutes. Then at some point, someone thought it would be a swell idea to cut it down to 41 minutes and give it a happy ending that followed the Disney version more closely.

Well, the love of my life grew up watching this, and would love to have it. But I want to make sure that I don't get her the hacked version. Is there anywhere I can get this online and be assured that I'm buying the correct version? DVD preferred, obviously, but I'll settle for VHS if that's all that's available.

Is this it? If so, contact the webmaster about where he got it.

I believe that this is actually the verion I'm looking for: http://radish-spirit.com/cbl/thelittlemermaid/misc1/anime.htm. The two things I was told is that the Mermaid's name was Marina, and at the end she dives into the sea and turns into seafoam.

These two actually look eerily similar, it's the hairclip that the mermaid wears is the thing that helped me differentiate that these are two different cartoons.

I have this movie. It was made in 1971 I belive, and was done by Toei animation. I have a copy of this movie (which I'm watching right now) I've heard it's out of print. I got it years ago, like when I was 5. It's a good movie though, I have it with the oringal ending. I've also seen that Little Mermaid film too, it was on Fox Kids or something. Anyways, I'm sorry but I don't know where you can get it now. Although I wish someone would release it on DVD (With Japanese audio!!!)
