Am I going insane, or was there once a series based on the "Tin-Tin" comics on Nickelodeon? I could swear I remember seeing those detectives animated, as well as bits and pieces of plots, somewhere...

Yeah. The series was being rerun here in the UK a couple of months back.

If you're talking about Herge's Tintin, then yes, it was an animated series. In Latin America, they were shown on Cartoon Network, and completely uncut, no less!

Excellent quality series, did every story except "Tintin in the Land of the Soviets".

I don't believe they did "Tintin in the Congo", either. Could be wrong

(or the unfinished "Tintin and Alph-Art", but that's pretty obvious =P)

I'm a huge fan of the comics. Did the cartoon accurately portray them? It would seem difficult, because the stories contain a lot of violence and some questionable stereotypes.

and it's also been known to turn up on HBO (or HBO Family) from time to time.

I think the series was pretty accurate - apparently, Beligan TV (or French TV, or wherever they were inteded to air first) have less restrictions on kids' shows than America. I definitely remember the drugs, guns and that JApanese guy with the piano teeth (rpobably because, fortunately, none of the other Asian characters were as badly caricatured, and "Blue Lotus" had a strong anti-racist message)

'Course, I've only seen the versions shown in the UK. Might've been censored before airing in the States.

There were a couple of Tin-Tin series. The first, from 1961 was produced by Belvision and syndicated locally. The second, was produced by Nelvana and Ellipse Prog. and first shown on HBO.

Oh man, I loved this show when it was on! I thought Tin-tin was the coolest thing ever (and still do). It's such a shame that it's been off the air for so long.

*makes plans to get the episodes from somewhere in the near future*
