Here's the great news:
After a lot of complaints from fans, it seems that Mike Scully, current executive producer of "The Simpsons," is no more. Instead, FOX has decided to appoint Al Jean to the job! Al Jean has been with the show since its early beginnings and is famous for writing such episodes as "Lisa`s Pony" and "Stark Raving Dad." It has been rumored that Mike Scully has recently been gearing the show more towards kids, since he does have kids of his own, which I would believe ANY second. But for the fans, this should be a good move for the show! -- Simpsons Sourcebook

I really hope that the past season will just turn out to be a bad memory. What was that season, by the way? Season 11? I have to be sure to NOT buy that season set on DVD when it comes out! Can we just pretend that season never took place?

just season 11? how about seasons 9 & 10? Those were just as bad, actually worse in my opinion. atleast we go the ep this season with the maude theme park. that was pretty funny seeing the springfielders under the infuluence of gas. and the ep with lisa's tree wasnt too bad either, but i forget if that was this season or last. peace.

The only episode I truly loathed in the past two seasons was that racing horse episode, the one where the comic book guy even says, "Worst episode ever!" But there were better shows those two seasons. The ones I have seen from season 11 make me feel like there is a part of my life that I wasted away that I will never get back.

When did Matt Groening and the original writers stop writing episodes? I'm assuming that's when the show started to drop in quality. I still watch it and enjoy it, but the classic episodes were better.
Does the producer of a show affect it as much as the writing?

Now, I don't know too much about the ins and outs of the role of a producer, but I would think they have a certain amount of clout into what goes into a movie or TV show. After all, they are producing the entire project! I bet what they have to say gets heard.

They left THE SIMPSONS to work on FUTURAMA, so right around that time.

Actually, the last episode Matt Groening wrote was the one where Homer discoves the country singer, which was waaaaaaaay back in season 3.
Personally, I thought that this season was just a smidge better than the last two, so there's hope yet.

I read the title to this thread, and I thought to myself "Gillian Anderson is a regular employee of the Simpsons??"
Hehehe...uhhhh.

Ahhh, but Dana Scully WAS on the Simpsons, with Fox Mulder and Leonard Nemoy! Of course, since I hadn't watched it, for all I knew they brought the cartoon of Dana Scully back. Maybe Maggie got abducted by aliens so Dana Scully took her place? I mean, for all I knew. I was too busy watching the Undergrads!

He had one of my favourite lines from The Simpsons in that episode.
"Hello, I'm Leonard Nimoy. The following tale of alien encounters is true. And by true I mean false. It's all lies. But they're entertaining lies, and in the end, isn't that the real truth? The answer is 'no'."
Hahahaha, ok, I know it has no bearing, but I just love that line!

Speaking of seasons, anyone plan to buy the Simpsons Season 1 DVD?

I plan on buying ALL the seasons, except for the abysmal season 11. Just say NO is my slogan for this year's Simpsons episodes. I have good hopes for 12 and beyond tho.

I just figured people wouldn't, given how...well..not so good the 1st season episodes are. I'm not sure if I am.

A completeists work is never done! Of course, given my completeist style of collecting things, going without that season 11 set will be difficult for me, as I might be tempted to buy it for the sake of just owning it. Perhaps I should join a support group before that happens?

I'm actually loking forward to the FUTRAMA DVDs more than the SIMPSONS DVD set. Like's probaby becuase FUTURAMA is the current better of two shows in the recent seasons.

I'm not really planning on getting any of the Simpsons DVDs - the show just doesn't interest me anymore. But I do plan on getting the Futurama DVDs, especially since I missed quite a few of the episodes and haven't been able to catch them on reruns.

While I also like Futurama quite a bit (and will get those DVDs too!), the one I'd like to see on DVD more is King of the Hill. I know it isn't the cash cow Simpsons is, and I really have no idea if Fox will put this series out on DVD, but I missed the first couple seasons then would only watch it sporadically until I got in the habit of watching it every week, so there are many episodes I have yet to see. And I think it is perhaps one of the more intelligent and well done animation sit coms ever made.

I'd love to see KING OF THE HILL also on DVD. It's a great show, one of the best animated series ever, and it keep on trucking. 5 seasons and going strong.

I don't know why, but King of the Hill has never appealed to me. I've watched it alot, and I just don't find it funny.

Hi everyone!
I am a huge fan of the Simpsons, and I can think of only a few episodes that I'm not crazy for, btu still like. However, I have seen that everyone is referring to the season that just ended as the 11th season. It was actually the 12th season. The 13th season will start this fall, and I think (but I'm not really sure) the 14th and 15th seasons were already approved. Here is the breakdown of the seasons.
Season 1: 1989-90
Season 2: 1990-91
Season 3: 1991-92
Season 4: 1992-93
Season 5: 1993-94
Season 6: 1994-95
Season 7: 1995-96
Season 8: 1996-97
Season 9: 1997-98
Season 10: 1998-99
Season 11: 1999-2000
Season 12: 2000-01
Season 13: 2001-02
Season 14: 2002-03
Season 15: 2003-04
I wonder how far The Simpsons will go? Could they make it to Season 20? I hope so!
As for 12th Season episodes, I thought they were pretty good, actually. My favorites were the ones with Homer as the Daycare worker, the finales with the twisted folk tales, and the fight over area codes. I liked them all, though, and I look forward to next season!

Thanks for the info Nerdgirl! I'll definitely put that to good use! *copy, paste!*
It's funny though, it seems like of the three FOX shows, each of us has dropped one from boredom. Me, I'd like all the FUTURAMA DVD's, but like the SImpsons DVDs, I'm going to start with the favorted seasons, and work my way like that. That way, I'll have all the important stuff and the lesser important stuff can come later. For example, Simpsons season 3 is a must freakin buy!

I agree about the SIMPSONS DVDs. I'm waiting until season 3 come sot, and then work my way from there. I'm a completist so I will be eventually getting them all. And since I'm such a completist, I'll be getting the new X-MEN: TAS DVDs as well. Oy...I can already hear my money flying away.

If you're going to wait to get the first two seasons, what ever floats your boat. The earth doesn't go rocketing out of orbit one way or another. But the way I personally look at it, if I am going to buy it, I prefer to buy it in some preorder deal thru some great website where I get 40% so I save more money on it. I got X Files Season 3 for $80.00 that way.

I know I'll have to wait, but I actually don't mind at all. Whenever they come, I'll get them. I actually have a list of DVDs that I plan to get up to August (ending with SILENCE OF THE LAMBS/HANNIBAL two pack). When September hits, I'll redo the list to do me up until December, etc...So many DVDs to buy, so little time.

I am rather confused with Silence of the Lambs. WHICH VERSION SHOULD I BUY? They have the Criterion collection version out now, and Criterion always kicks booty on their DVDs, but what about the new editions coming out with the release of Hannibal on DVD? How much will they differ from the Criterion version. I only want to buy the movie once, and I want the best version available.
It is times like this that being a DVD collector drives you nuts!

Go with the upcoming MGM release. While the stuff on the MGM disc will be basically different, the deleted scenes remain the same (thought the MGM version will hav emore). I'd wait for the MGM version.

Thanks for the info. I had been tempted more than once to get that Criterion collection edition! I hate buying a good movie on DVD then they release a better, more complete edition later on!
ok...back to our reguarlly scheduled thread....

I try to avoid the CIRTERIONS also, becuase it's mostlikely that the movie studio (if they still have the rights) will release the movie on DVD eventually. Now, back to our thread. I wonder, is FOX going to be releasing these quarterly?
Calhoun07
06-03-2001, 08:16 PM
OHHH...a new avatar! Let me be the first to compliment you!
I have heard that these releases will be quarterly, though I don't know if that is confirmed. I heard that early on when I first heard the DVDs announced.
One last slightly ot plug...the Criterion verion of Brazil is a must have. No other version of that movie will ever do.
James Harvey
06-03-2001, 09:28 PM
Thanx! BRAZIL? Hmmm...I'll look into it. I'm actualy going into the city this week to possibly pick up some new DVDs. And they will be quarterly? Nice...
