All good things must come to an end, including anime series. Most people get depressed when an anime ends forever, but which endings made you sad?

I nearly cried on the final episode of Digimon. Nearly every season, there was someone my age on it. Izzy was 10, T.K. was 11,no one in 3, and J.P. was 12,but that's close enough.

So, have you cried at an anime finale

Fruits Basket, I honestly didn't want it to end!

Someone's going to say this eventually, so I'll just go with the obvious:

"The Real Folk Blues pt. II" had a lot of emotional punch. That last ethereal, "bang!" coordinated with Blue had a lot of potency.

Since Delthayre went with the obvious one...

Trigun, the finale where Vash faces his fears and defeats Knives was so emotionally powerfull the first time I saw it.

I thought cowboy bebop had the perfect length and ending myself. But I will agree it was sad. That was an ending, you sorta knew it was gonna happen, but you still got misty over it.

I was always upset over both endings of eva....although admittedly, for very different reasons than cowboy bebop.

Um....most animes i've seen don't really have "sad" endings as much as frustrating due to lack of ending or completely confusing ending.

Gundam 0080 - that one brought a little tear to my eye.

The end of, er, The End of Evangelion was far from happy (it was the end of the world, after all) and the final moment between the last two characters makes me bleary-eyed, despite the WTF-ness of it all.

Metropolis- ANYONE WHO DIDN'T CRY AT THE END DON'ST HAVE A SOUL. >.>;;

The Big O- Roger's speech to Angel was so touching, the music was a nice touch as well.

Ningyo Dowa (The Little Mermaid)- The movie follows the oringal story, which has the little mermaid die at the end.

Sailor Moon S, SuperS, and Stars- The ending of S was so beautiful, Super Sailor Moon recusing Hotaru, and using her pure heart. The 'falling scene' for SuperS was kinda sad. Stars, was the most wonderful thing ever, and showed how pure Usagi is.

You don't know sad until you see the last two episodes of Revolutionary Girl Utena. Man, that was the kind of punch in the gut that makes you feel a little bit lost for about a half hour afterwards. Seriously. It was happy at the very very end, at least in some ways, but just so very sad in almost every other way.

But, in all, it was the perfect ending.

Also, I would say Sailorstars had a great ending, sad but also pretty happy too. Then again, I was kind of mad at the very last scene (seemed anticlimactic....) but was good for 95% of it. I would say it was sad, but not as sad as the episodes leading up to it.

Aside from that, I am pretty stumped for series endings. I am very picky about what I watch to the end, since I usually watch stuff that no one else is into (there was a time years ago where I and a small group of friends were the only Sailormoon fans around.... When you could only get it through fansubs... shhhhhhh). But movies are another story. Every anime movie I have seen has been sad. Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Fatal Fury...

Big O... I loved that show some much, and it's finale pretty much invalidated everything.

Answer to the big mistery was that there was no mystery..... that made me sad.

Fruits Basket, I honestly didn't want it to end!
Same here. I cryed like a freakin' baby on starting from the 24th episode and on. I think almost every anime I have seen has made me sad except Midori No Hibi. The happy ending made me happy. I was surprised when I didn't cry.

The short list but not so very short list:
Fruits Basket
Kare Kano
Evangelion and The End of Evangelion
Tokyo Underground
Star Ocean EX
Chobits
Escaflowne
Haibana Renmei - I cryed even before it ended
Konomini
Nadesico and Nadesico the movie
Onegai Teacher
Onegai Twins
Rahxephon
Noir
DBGT - I can't remember if I cryed when I saw the ending
X TV

I guess I'm very emotional and sensitive.

Episode 24 of Chobits... that made me get a bit teary eyed.

On the other hand, what made me really sad was the finale of Big O... Man, nothing happens between Roger and Dorothy and the ending was pretty lame.

Also another thing that made me sad was spending cash on Nadesico the Movie, I had to spend a bit extra on shipping and handling fees since I couldn't buy it locally at the time. Once I finshed watching that, I wanted my money back... :(

Yeah, I know what you mean, that made me more mad than sad, though!

The end of Sai Kano got a few tears out of me, though I honestly didn't find it as sad as I thought I would. *shrugs*

Eva left me confused, Big O left me pissed off...

If I'm remembering right the ending to BoogiePop Phantom got some tears out of me as it was rather brutal.

I've said it before, but the end of the 2nd (and at the time final) Space Battleship Yamato movie is the ultimate tearjerker. Virtually all of the main cast dies in the final 20 minutes.

Berserk. Kinda took me a while to get over how twisted the ending was. It was sad to see Guts' best friend betray him, give up on his mission, and turn his back on all of his comrades.

Rurouni Kenshin OVA :(
Ya, that ending was really sad... That OVA overall was sad, actually. So drastically different than the series.

Does the Grave of the Fireflies movie count? :D

Or how about the end of Kimagure Orange Road (whazzit I Remember that Day ?)... that is, before there was a 2nd movie.

Or how about the ending of Gunbuster?

The ending to "This ugly beautiful world" (Kono Minikuku mo Utsukushii Sekai), while mildly sad, is quite hopeful that outside of the story everything will be ok again. But it is that song at the end (Anyone got the name of it?) That pulls at the hart. That, and...

Hikari and Akari traveling in space with the dresses given to them as aposed to as they were (SIC) I thoguht that was touching

The ending to the Chobits manga was pretty touching.

Mahoromatic: it made me sad that it took a particualrly powerful second-to-last-episde and ruined it by jumping into the future and undergoing a complete genre stlye change (think Cardcaptor Sakura having Cowboy Bebop as a last episode) it is the only anime EVER to leave me depressed. but not in the way it intended. I felt depressed that I felt the show didn't end right.

So many things just go unsolved or left wide open, plus there;s the whole main character's outlook on life thing. just abysmal. I have told everyone to just watch the penultimate ep and jsut let it ned like that. it's a much more ...complete ending than the convoluted mess (and massive nudity , I like fanservice, but DAMN, some scenes go on painfully long) the finale turned out to be.

??? I thought that song was perfect for the scene. Very moving.
