Who's with me?!
Gundam Seed is great and al, but i need my fill of classic Gundam! They should put Gundam 0083 or Gundam 0079 back on Toonami or Adult Swim.
This new stuff looks "overanimated." I need me some Classic!

This thread seems oddly familiar...
Didn't you post this last week?

Apparently America doesn't need Gundam, since only two of the many series on CN actually posted strong ratings, and they were both alternate universe.

I started this thread... the last gundam one i think someone else started.
yes, we know they pulled in high ratings... but cant a Classic Gundam fan still wish upon a falling star? Or will it be just a memory in the dusts of space?

Can someone at TZ please write posts that DON'T read like fanfiction?
Oh, I remember. Three Gundam series, I forgot SD Gundam. SD Gundam, G Gundam, and Gundam Wing. Those are the series America likes. The rest? Only internet nerds. Only internet nerds.

So much for being dramatic...
America doesnt like SD Gundam. No one likes SD Gundam.
Fans of G Gundam were also fans of the Street Fighter Movie with Jean Claude van Damme
Gundam Wing was decent. Show that again for all I care. It was better when the had two series going at the same time.

Considering Season THREE of SD Gundam is being made right now with Season 4 a possibility, I'd say people DO love SD Gundam.

Gundam Movie Trillogy.
That's all I ask out of Bandai.
Except for the fact that CN won't play anything subtitled...

Not just internet nerds would love 08th MS Team if they played it un-cut.

Because Americans are dumb!:p
Seriously, they should play the trilogy. Dubbed, subbed, I don't care, just play it.

I don't think CN even has the rights to broadcast those shows any longer. If we ever do see another UC series on CN again, it'll be Zeta Gundam (which is excellent), but if you want anything else, you'll just have to buy the DVD's because there's no way in hell they'll reacquire the rights to any show let alone ones that (as Matt pointed out) already faired poorly.

They need to air Zeta. It's UC's only hope.

yes, this is very true
but what isn't likely is the airing of 2 gundams, in the same season, on 2 different runs. I think they did try it with msg and 08th ms team (I could be wrong with that one)
but matt brings an excellent point. The 2 gundam shows that did extremely well in america are that of Gundam G and Gundam W (and of course SD Gundam was very funny to watch)
but again, the likelihood of this happening is slim if nonexistent. I mean, get the dvds for more gundam action

I like SD Gundam. I also like G Gundam. I don't like the Street Fighter movie.
How about using your brain before assuming those of us who like Gundam shows outside of UC are mindless action jockies? I enjoy Gundam as a whole. If you're going to throw out half assed stereotypes of fans, be prepared for backlash.

Didn't 08th MS team get good ratings? Anyway, Gundam 0083 and 0080 aired late at night so it's not really fair to compare them against Wing, G, and SD, since they all aired during the afternoon.

During the daytime slot, yes it did. Not as good as Wing but it performed miles higher than MSG 0079.

Fans of G Gundam were also fans of the Street Fighter Movie with Jean Claude van Damme... G-Gundam is my favorite Gundam, and I have Street Fighter: The Movie on DVD.
I'm still betting Zeta hits Toonami. Not because "It fits Toonami", or "I don't want to see ASA air it"... Bandai wants toy money.
... though, I haven't seen SEED toys, just model kits...

You'll see them. If they can pump out loads of toys for MSG, they'll be sure to squeeze everything they can out of SEED.
Heck, I'm still seeing toys from Gundam W line the shelves. New ones mind you.
Anyway, I started on Gundam with the MSG movie dubs on VHS that Bandai put out (superior to the series, I'll say to my dying day). A little bit of 0083. Then Gundam W. G-Gundam. SD Gundam. And I've enjoyed them all for the most part.
I can't see how UC fans can complain about AU shows being all about mindless action when they have 0083, the toy commercial show that only fits into UC continuity if you bang it with a shovel until it bleeds.

They should make all new Gundams 1/60 scale...
because the 1/44 and 1/100 are patheticly sized..
Atleast the 1/60's are over a foot
and if the 1/60 regular gundam's are over a foot the larger ones if in 1/60 scale would be the size of a small child....

Me either, despite the fact that Bandai has been advertising them since, what, January?

I saw Zeta Fansubbed, and it's exponentially superior to wing and seed and the difference between SD and Zeta gundam is like comparing Joel Shumacher's work with Batman to Bruce Timm's work with Batman but if there's one thing I've noticed about CN is no respect for animated classics whatsoever

Mobile Suit Gundam: Toonami is proud to present the most groundbreaking animé saga of all time, fully restored!
Astro Boy: Toonami presents the most legendary animé series of all time, reborn!
Gigantor: In the distant year 2000, one robot is the hope for all mankind!
Huh... the sheer fact that they spun off a cable network for classics (both American and Japanese with the inclusion of Battle of the Planets)...

My nickname for 1/144 scale Gundam models: Arthritis inducers. I had to break out a pair of tweezers just to apply some of the stickers.
And my 1/100 Wing Zero...his arm joints can't even manage to hold up his plastic beam saber. And he never could hold his buster rifle.
Anyway, I had this argument over SEED a few months ago on another forum. They whined that SEED would be on AS. I said no, for precisely this reason. I'm willing to go out on a limb and say Bandai will treat all of Gundam like this, AU or UC.

I've given 0083, Mobile Suit, G Gundam, and Gundam SEED a shot and they all blow. What is the appeal of these show? The robot fights have been done better in Big O, Eva, and countless others. The politics are as convoluted as those in Metal Gear Solid, and the characters are dull as hell. I understand that it may have been breakthrough at one time, but it doesn't hold up today nearly as something like Lupin.

3) That was a special event (but the best point BTW)
4) Who's got Boomerang?
I believe somebody (or somebodies) down at CN love classic animation especially ones that haven't been seen in the US or haven't been seen in a long time but they wont hesistate to pull it when the ratings suck.

Given that the Zeta toyline was scaled back immensely, I don't think they're looking for toy money. Plus Zeta's going to hit the shelves as a boxset first. I think we can chalk the release up as more of a fan-pleaser at this point...
If it even comes at all, I can almost say with complete certainty that we'd see it on AS weeknights. The older animation isn't going to fly with the Toonami crowd.

Different strokes for different folks. I don't think it's fair to say that it doesn't hold up as Gundam is continuing to draw in new fans. I was introduced by Wing and stuck around for the older stuff.

I really think it's doubtful for Zeta now. Bandai had plans for it at one time, CN threw a wrench into them. The toyline has been pulled from the official site and the series is being released in one big box set to shut up the fan whinings. It seems without a CN airing to go with it, Bandai don't know what to do with a Gundam series.

If Cartoon Network doesn't want it, I don't see why Bandai doesn't work out a deal to get it on Anime Unleashed. They wouldn't reach as many homes, but it would still be a sizeable audience and I'd think Anime Unleashed would jump at the chance to get something with Gundam in the name on their block. I'd still like to see it on Adult Swim though if any chance remains.

The thing with UC from MSG to CCA is that it's ultimately one big story. You can ignore the OVAs, but Zeta picks up on things from MSG, ZZ picks up on things from Zeta and CCA picks up on things from all three. Zeta's basically the result of the OYW from MSG- the Federation start the Titans to make sure another war won't happen, but the Titans are corrupt and several characters from both sides on MSG come back along with new characters to try and resist the Titans. Plot threads are left dangling and ZZ picks up on them. CCA then finalises everything by wrapping up the EA/Zeon Char/Amuro conflict.
So really, the ideal situation for any station airing them would be to air all four.

they cancelled Mobile suit Gundam twice and only ran the final episode on New Year's Eve three years ago at 1AM, does that sound like respect to you?
and the Astro Boy they're airing is recent so it doesn't technically count

I can see how someone would enjoy the fights in Eva. But, Big O? The fights in Big O were some of the worst fights I've ever seen! My grandmother moves faster than that piece of crap. Also, I don't think the politics are really that confusing in Mobile Suit Gundam, Gundam 0080, and Gundam Seed(at least so far). Maybe I can see your point in 0083 and Gundam Wing. And G Gundam just sucked.

Constructive criticism, where art thou?
they cancelled Mobile suit Gundam twice and only ran the final episode on New Year's Eve three years ago at 1AM, does that sound like respect to you? It's not Toonami's fault it tanked. The promotion was heavy and it had a good spot in the lineup. The AS airing was, like Tenchi & OS, filler.
and the Astro Boy they're airing is recent so it doesn't technically countIt's still a classic in quite possibly the greatest remake of all time. Toonami's not the reason it tanked, whoever decided to get rid of the original music and widescreen is the reason it tanked.

My nickname: Finger-killers. Getting the pieces out of that plastic mold thing ruins my fingers after just one model. Getting the smaller pieces out (such as the V-Crest or a plug or something) is very annoying.
