Hey everyone. Yesterday I ask this girl out if she'd be my girlfriend. Still no answer, but she had called me this afternoon. We were talking. I asked her what her hobbies are. I said mine were collecting Looney Tunes. Afterwards she said I should stop liking childish things (i.e. Star Wars, etc.) since that's not what popular kids like. Then I said "Please don't say I can't like Looney Tunes anymore!". She said I should'nt like LTs or talk to you guys anymore... How can Star Wars and LTs be childish? I have seen countless adults like SWs and LTs. I refuse to go out with that girl and not talk with you guys. You guys are my best friends! :)

Gotlucky, it just tells me that she's not worth it....It appears that she doesn't understand that cartoons is not just for kids but it's more an artform.I have dated girls and when I tell them I collect cartoons for a living, they understand that I'm a person that studies films(including cartoons) as my hobbie and my job for a living.
I know and have met a lot of girls(even older than me) that loves cartoons, and they don't find them childish at all, but they find them very entertaining including the censored cartoons. What your into is not a childish hobbie, and DON'T let some girl tell you what's childish and what's not.It seems to me that this girl does not have any sense of humor, and could be the fact that maybe she never liked cartoons in the first place.
But remember one thing Gotlucky, it's her loss and it's defintely not yours, you can easily find a better girl that will accept you for what you are, and not what you're into....So tell this girl to hit the road
If she doesnt like you for you and cant accept that thats what you like, then it shouldnt be an issue.
If youre in a relationship with another person then there needs to be a compromise reached between those two people. it shouldnt be "if you expect me to like you then drop this".
It is HER OPINION that things like that are childish and perhaps she's too absorbed in being popular to realize that there are better things in life than being homecoming queen or whatever. Sorry for sounding mean, but i've just had bad experiences with girls like that and it just sorta pisses me off to see someone diss someone else just because THEY are too closed minded to think that certain people like other things like cartoons. its ludicrous.
Quite frankly there are better fish in the sea. Gotlucky, you find somebody who likes YOU FOR YOU and can appreciate the fact that you like what you want to like. :) And odnt you forget that either.

Although I find I don't like making it a habit to disclose my personal affairs to people, I feel it is my duty to add in here....
I once dated someone who said the exact same thing to me (hey, you mean I owe you an explanation about these 350 videotapes labelled "cartoons"?).... so to cut to the chase..... if they try to change you now by suggesting such things, the relationship will inevitably fall apart later!! People like that get with someone, start assessing what YOU can provide for THEM and spend all their energy trying to change the person they're with to their own liking rather than invest it back into the relationship- ESCAPE THESE PEOPLE AT ALL COSTS, IT WILL NEVER GET ANY BETTER... they are incurable personality disorders who feel that for some reason or another, people owe them something just because they are who they are!!
On the better note, after deciding to wait it out a bit, I eventually DID meet someone with whom I'm still seeing (7 yrs!). When the topic of cartoons came up, the discussion went something like this:
"What are all these tapes...(sic) and what do you do for a living?"
"I'm an animator, and they're tapes of animated cartoons. I especially like the Warner Brothers cartoons...."
(in a placid tone of voice) "Oh, cartoons, neat. Yeah, I like WB cartoons too."
"Do you have a favourite one that you remember liking a lot?"(expecting to hear something generally ignorant like "Mickey Mouse" or "Tazz the Devil")
"Yeah, this one.... No, not Happy Birthday... anything but that.... NOT HAPPY BIRTHDAAAAYYY!!!!"
(surpised out of my gourd..... it IS true love!!!)

For GOTLUCKY:
A) "Dating Hell" is an oxymoron, like 'jumbo shrimp', 'free love' and 'central intelligence'.
B) Don't ever let anyone belittle or condemn you for your love of cartoons or anything else for that matter. Right off the bat that should tell you how shallow that person really is.
C) Please don't get discouraged while wading thru the dating pool. I've got friends who'd be eating alone in a womens' prison! Just keep looking for 'Miss Right' and not 'Miss Right Now'! Believe me, she's out there...

--with my fellow Buttercup fan; the lass sounds like more trouble than she's worth. For the record I've gotten involved with a couple of dames like that--upper-class types who like to "slum" with guys from the wrong side of the tracks, or who sit a couple or three rungs below them on the social ladder. I had one who wanted me to shave my beard, give up cussing, and stop "acting retarded" so I'd be more respectable in her parents' eyes. The other one--who I must admit I still have feelings for and would get back together with if she called me tonight, I'm afraid--behaved like a jealous brat and ultimately walked out on me because I took up with another woman (who was much better suited for me and whom I'd still be with if it wasn't for the long-distance thing and our schedules) after she dropped out of my life for a month over some fool thing, then came back like nothing had happened. She didn't "get it" either; her favorite Daria character was Brittany, for frig's sakes!

I thank you Pete for dumping the girl. I've never had a chance like you did, but I am waiting for that special someone as well. You and me will eventually find that someone who wouldn't care over things like that. I'm not a SW fan, but I admire the creativity of the movies.
No matter what any girl says, Looney Tunes And Merrie Melodies are extremely great. Period!

Yep, you were right to stand up for what you liked, Gotlucky. Be proud. And dump the gal, unless she can accept the fact you like LT it could be a rocky relationship if you go on anyway.
Congrats on getting courage to ask a girl to be your gal-pal, though. You already have taken a good step forward to "Miss Right."
