The Yuma Police Department is looking for information in connection with an armed robbery at Wells Fargo Bank on Monday afternoon.
Shortly after 1 p.m., a man with a light complexion walked up to a teller, claimed he had a gun and demanded money at the Wells Fargo branch on the corner of 1st Avenue and 16th Street, said Leanne Worthen, YPD spokeswoman.
The man, who was wearing a dark cap, long-sleeve denim shirt and blue pants, was given an undisclosed amount of money, police said. He was in his 20s, is 6-feet-1 and weighs about 155 pounds.
The teller never actually saw the weapon, Worthen said.
On Monday afternoon, the bank was closed while the police reviewed the surveillance camera tapes and interviewed eyewitnesses.
Worthen wasn't sure how many people were in the bank when the robbery occurred.
At first law enforcement officials believed there was one suspect that fled on foot, but later Worthen said there may have been two people who left in two vehicles.
The second suspect was described as a male wearing faded jeans and a light-colored T-shirt. His age, height and weight was unknown, Worthen said.
The vehicles are described as newer-model silver passenger car and a bronze import sport utility vehicle.
There were no injuries in the incident.
The last bank robbery in the Yuma area was in March 2001 at the Marine Air Federal Credit Union at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma. But this type of crime rarely happens, Worthen said.
"They are few and far between," she said.
Anyone with information about Monday's bank robbery at Wells Fargo is asked to call the Yuma Police Department at (number removed)What this article fails to make mention of is that this particular Wells Fargo bank is RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET FROM OUR POLICE STATION! I'm still clueless as to how they managed to get away, let alone remain uncaught for over a day now.
