Cartoons on LT:BIA DVD?

In the Region 1 version of this DVD, "Whizzard of Ow" is included. I heard a rumour (maybe saw a thread in here?) that the Australian version of hte DVD contains more of the Doyle shorts (Museum Scream, Cock-A-Doodle-Duel, Attack of the Drones).

Is this true? Which ones were done? Anybody have these shorts available for trade?

Yep, it's true. I do have the Australian version of the "Back In Action" DVD. It is a 2-disc set, with the second disc containing 5 of these new Looney Tunes shorts:

The titles for the new shorts sound like the sort the Simpson writers would cook up. "My Generation G-G-Gap" has a character's ditistinction in it, like how the writers for the Simpsons would use D'oh in the titles. (like "E-I-E-I-D'oh!") And others, like "Whizzard Of Ow", have bad puns, like the Simpsons used in "The Wizard Of Evergreen Terrace" or "Mr. Spritz Goes To Washington". :rolleyes: :shrug:

Lots and lots of Looney Tunes (and classic cartoons) have puns for titles... that isn't anything new.

As Jon said MOST Looney Tunes have bad puns in the title. In fact, most of the RR/Coyote cartoons use Whiz in some form, most of Pepe's cartoons use Scent in some form.

I can't stand how some people pick apart these cartoons just for being new. If that's the best you can do then the cartoon's are probably really really good :P

Like criticizing Whizzard of Ow for their (funny) use of a cell phone. Cell phones didn't exist in the 50's so of course they were never used in RR/Coyote cartoons before, but Wile E has always made "good" use of technology. So why is this a bone of contention with some people? :confused: :rolleyes:

At least if you're going to criticize the new cartoons, do it about something that is really and fundamentally wrong about them. Some people have mentioned the animation quality or inappropriate humour, and I can agree with some of these things (though not all).

Because of the dialogue, the use of which was strictly forbidden by Chuck Jones in all Road Runner cartoons. It's only one of two disciplines that "Whizzard of Ow" breaks.

Based on the materials that I've seen, they're really bad. Mind you, I haven't seen the final product, but unless they threw away the storyboards and started over, they're bad. Probably the worst Looney Tunes ever made.

I'm not sure I consider it "dialog" because it was simply a voice recording, but I'll give you that.

As for the second discipline, there are other RR cartoons where the Road Runner does intentionally harm the Coyote, so the fact that Whizzard breaks this one is only slightly annoying to me.

But I'll agree with the basis of your arguments.

I watched it again last night and now I feel that it is (at best) a mediocre cartoon. Some of the gags are funny (RR clearing his throat, the initial freeze frame of the coyote with the falling cat) but some are stupid (the levitating rock). I felt the music is off and so it somehow annoys me. Also the model of the coyote looks too "clean" and not gaunt and straggly enough.

JeffAnother reason Wizzard of Ow is annoying (to me anyway) is the Crystal Ball scene is very sloppily done. The end result of that gag makes no sense.

Yep, you're right. Broke the rules. This I think is the third time it happened

First was in Friz Freleng's "Wild Chase" where it starred Speedy Gonsales, Road Runner, Wile E Coyote, and Sylvester, and I believe some of them talked.

Second was in Robert McKimson's "Suger and Spies" where it showed a freaky looking spy DFE used alot that time, and the product Coyote used was NOT Acme. That short was also the last RR and WEC cartoon from the original LT era.

I actually think the puns used in Looney Tunes (and other classic cartoons) titles are clever. Compare something like "Fast And Furryous" to "Whizzard Of Ow" or "Crockett Doodle Doo" to "Cockle Doodle Deul".

Can anyone explain to me why it's ok to release these cartoons on the Australian version of this DVD and not the North American version? Did the movie do tremendously better in Australia or something?
