The Comic Newsarama site caught up with Devin Grayson, among other new writers, and asked about the shift in creative teams. Below is an excerpt from the interview:
Moving over to the no-brainer of the new assignments – Grayson on Nightwing. Ever since her entry into professional comics writing and her Nightwing “Pulp Heroes” annual a few years back, Devin Grayson has never hidden the fact that Dick Grayson/Nightwing is her favorite character in all of comics. That said though, Grayson didn’t figure herself as a shoe-in for the Nightwing gig.
“It's true that Nightwing is my favorite character in all of comicdom and, along with Batman, the reason I ended up in this industry, but it's also true that the Bat-office is bursting at the seams with talented creators who are just as fond of these characters as I am,” Grayson said. “Bat-editor Michael Wright had some really difficult decisions to make -- I mean, honestly, how the heck do you replace Chuck Dixon? I don't envy him that task at all -- and I really appreciate his trust and confidence in me and look forward to working with him on what is already a stellar series. Under the circumstances, I think the entire Bat-editorial team made some fantastic, exciting choices, and I'm psyched to see where the Bat-books go next.”
That said, Grayson admitted (and also gave a great segue to the next new writer) she would miss her old haunt, Gotham Knights. “I'll particularly miss the opportunity to work with the awesomely talented Roger Robinson, whose collaborative genius and generous spirit I've really enjoyed over these past two years,” Grayson said. “But I'm very happy for Scott Beatty and excited to see where he takes the book and yes, of course, I'm thrilled to find myself in Blüdhaven and can't wait to really move in!”
