I have a theory. Everyone is saying how Lex would know Superman is Clark in the future. Well, how about if he CHANGES??? In the upcoming JL cartoon, I think I read that Lex Luthor became evil when Kryptonite messed up the brain his shiny little noggin. Maybe this happens in Smallville too, but it also makes him forget things, like Clark having his powers. What does everybody think?

I agree. It would seem like some kind of cop out the writers would use if they couldn't come up with anything better.

The formula has been working for them pretty well lately... I dunno, maybe an alien symbiote will take over his body!

My guess is that Lex won't inherit from Daddy but oust him, and the ruthlessness required to do this will ruin him morally.

Whoever wrote for Lex in this week's episode did his homework. "You have to spend money to make money." The sector economy is slumping. Rivals are laying off workers. Not all of these are gems ; companies rarely miss a chance to unload problem employees. Still, the odds are that most of these displaced workers are middle-aged family men with bills to pay. Their benefits cost too much ; fire them and replace them with no-benefit part-timers and temps. It is these desperate refugees that Lex is hiring. They'll do anything for him. Less money is better than none. And when the sector does perk up again, they can't leave Lex unless HE lets them go. They'll be too old to find better jobs elsewhere, and since Lex will keep intellectual ownership of whatever they produce now, what can they offer another boss? Brilliant move on his part. Daddy has already lost. He just doesn't know it yet.

For a comic book plot, yes. But we are talking about the TV show. I expect more from the show. Well, I expect more from comic books too, but since most of it is done by hacks, I am not surprised.

I bet the show is just an alternate timeline where Shiny Head doesn't become a villian!
