View Full Version : Who Would You Like to See Create Something for AS?

Just like the title says, what creators of animated shows would you like to see make an original series(action or comedy) for AS? Personally, I would like to see Gennedy Tartakofsky make an action show for AS. I enjoyed Samurai Jack alot and it would be interesting what he would come up for on AS. At least he would be able to destroy other things than robots.;) Too bad he'll be busy with doing new Clone Wars shorts, directing the Astro Boy movie, and maybe moving to LucasArts.

I also wouldn't mind seeing Maxwell Atoms make a comedy series for AS once Billy & Mandy is over.

I would like to see Matt Groening create something for AS. With new Futurama episodes being out of the question, I would like to see him make something for AS. I mean he doesn't have alot of input in the Simpsons, and the movie isn't for a while so maybe he could create a new series.

Outside Matt Groening...

Jhonen Vasquez or Neil Gaiman. But both would fare better on something like HBO, and Vasquez isn't happening. Ever.

I really like those choices, pabcool. Especially Vasquez.

I'll throw Bed Edlund's name into the mix.

David Lynch. Something along the lines of the flash shorts on his site.

Definately Jhonen Vasquez. I loved ZIM, and I would really love for him to do something aimed at adults with less restrictions. He might be too soured on the idea of doing television shows any more, though.

The 'Do they dare to rock out?' thread gave me an idea.
Get together Michael McKean, Harry Shearer, Christopher Guest and Rob Reiner for, I think you see where I'm going,

This is Animated Spinal Tap

With an original song each episode, this would put Adult Swim on the map,
the money map.

Don Hertzfeldt. Imagine a 22 minute cartoon show of his stick figures. As lazy as that sounds, it would blow the ratings from ATHF and Sealab in the water.

He's writing for Venture Bros if that's close enough at the moment.

And Jhonen Vasquez. :)

Todd is creator of Spawn. If he made an action cartoon for AS, it'd be awesome!

I'd like to see Kevin Smith create more CLERKS episodes for AS. They could get away with a heck of a lot more than they did with ABC.:)

Aside from Steve Purcell... :(

Don Hertzfeldt would be a good idea, since he already has massive cult appeal. Of course, he's probably a little ticked about the Rejected fiasco. Either that or he's formed a special bond with AS as they fought through the ordeal together.
Speaking of which... I'm really starting to think they could get away with airing that now, considering that they have now had middle fingers and Moltar's S-bomb in "Dreams". But maybe they just don't feel like going through all the trouble again.

What if Warner Bros. Animation did another DC Comics show, but for Adult Swim?
I guess they might not want to confuse the current DC animated universe... and Batman would be the coolest choice, yet there are already way too many series about him... in theory it might be cool.

We'd never see it because Todd would keep missing deadlines.

I'll echo the sentiments about Groening, I think he would be able to devise something with some hope of quality.

Warren Ellis would probably be a bit nightmarish to shove onto television, but I like his work and even though it would be almost completely infeasible, a Transmetropolitan animated series (with Patrick Stewart voicing Spider Jerusalem) would be great.

It's an almost ridiculously impossible dream, but I'd like to see if Sylvain Chomet could come up with something for the block. Working under the exceedingly dubious premise that he'd so something for the block, I imagine it might turn out as too odd for most audiences.

I'd actually like to see what Matt Wilson could do with a budget and a staff and I don't see his stuff finding a place on TV through something else.

Oh, and I'd love to do something for them myself, but it would be mind-deadeningly esoteric and dry, when it wasn't being stupid, so that would end badly... and that's all I can decently say on that indulgent pipe dream.

On Sylvain Chomet: Tripplets of Belleville played theatrically in Portland nonstop for six months, we'd flock in droves to see more of his stuff even if it was on Adult Swim.

That would make my day, week, month and year.

Unfortunately, as a small animation studio that takes years to get one short out, I don't think Hertzfeldt could do it even if he wanted to.

Genndy Tartakovsky.

Just imagine the Adult Swim Action show he could do. It'd be a new Cowboy Bebop...

I would say Kevin Smith, but he's been tripping up lately (Not finishing Spider-Man/Black Cat, Daredevil: The Target, or the Green Hornet movie)...

Did you see the Animation Festival hosted by him and Mike Judge. He pumped out 3 shorts just for the Festival under 4 months according to my sources. If he could get more people involved, Don could easily make 13 episodes of some random nonsence.

He would probably be fearful of less creative control, being able to do less of it himself, being subject to the whims of the network, etc. Perhaps if Williams Street gave him generous time and budget and promised him total creative control, he would consider. Williams Street might be willing to do that, but it wouldn't fly with Cartoon Network or Time Warner suits, judging by the treatment of Rejected.

Akitoroh Daichi would be willing to work with a US partener (already did to get GrrlPower off the ground.) Whether CN would be willing to work with Daichi is another issue.

If they didn't want to make Welcome to Eltingville a series, why bother with PA?

Penny Arcade always did have that script for an animated series, ReTale or ReTail or Retail or whatever...

'though, I have a feeling much of Penny Arcade's humor is lost when they have to start referencing fictional companies... and hoo boy, CN'd cancel 'em the first time they have a Strawberry Shortcake incidence on-air....

I didn't see the Welcome to Eltingville pilot, but I wish I had.

Knux - I really don't think they'd do another "Strawberry Shortcake" incident. It was only to prove a point, and they took it down as soon as there was a problem.

Clearly they should make a show for Adult Swim Action - Adventures of the Cardboard Tube Samurai

It would rock though. Daichi would be able to really make a fun, fast paced show with enough depth to keep all audiences happy.

You're right, they just have to keep him moving. We don't want another Cromartie High on our hands. That show just dragged on and on and on. So-- Jubei vibes, Tsukikage Ran vibes and we're good. Let's Accomplish It! --With Dango!

Cromartie was Daichi? Weird. Doesn't read like him at all. Maybe it was just the source material...

I wouldn't mind some Fruits Basket vibes or NTHT vibes in the mix too. A Daichi show should have some leeway to get dark, but in way balanced way.

Huh. Where did I get that idea from? Wow. You're right, it totally wasn't him. I guess I just assumed from the randomness that he was involved somehow. :p

It may seem like a bit of a hokey answer, but I think Weird Al would be a fantastic contributer.

Al, a long time Space Ghost fan, would easily be able to fill up several minutes of insanity, especially if it was a cartoon that continues the story of UHF. I sure as heck would enjoy that much more than I would anything from Outkast.

Grant Morrison: Give him the chance to do a superhero action series and watch the magic happen. Not only is he responsible for Flex Mentallo, Seaguy, Doom Patrol, and Animal Man; HE MADE THE X-MEN READABLE.

Jim Mahfood: I'd love to see an animated series from him. He was working on a (failed?) pilot for Disney last year, though.

The cast of the Upright Citizens Brigade: There is no doubt in my mind that the writers of one of the greatest sketch shows ever would make an awesome show (I would have said the cast of Mr. Show, but they have an upcoming pilot).

Bruce Campbell: Preferably in "Evil Dead: The Series".

Other folks: Junko Mizuno, Chynna Clugston-Major, Chip Zdarsky, Norm Scott, Tenacious D, Tim Burton

This will probably fly like a lead balloon, but how about a Penny Arcade series?I love Penny Arcade but I think PvP would have a greater appeal. The series is more accessable to non gamers (i.e. Me.), and while I think Penny Arcade is more laugh out funny than PvP is, PvP is more consistantly funny. But I would love some stuff from the net being a TV show on AS.

11:00-High Score
11:15-Homestar Runner
11:30-Questioable Content
12:00-White Ninja
12:15-ummm... Millerville... it will probably be popular maybe
12:30-PvP

I would also be interesting to see Angus Oblong develop another series with AS, I'm not sure if I'd like to see the product though.

I agree about the Gorillaz, it would be cool if they made a half hour special for AS.
