12 finalists, 8 weeks, 7 assignments, 3 judges (no Simon-types included), and you, the fans! This combination will decide who will be...
The Drawing Board Idol!
Before I make the announcement who the finalists are as well as the first assignment, I'd like to give a BIG thank you to both those who entered (because without you, this even would not have flown), and my fellow judges for taking time out of their busy schedules to do this.
This was a difficult decision on everyones part. The pieces were all very good (and will be posted on the web site soon) and all were very much liked.
Now! for the moment you all waited for...

And now, for your first assignment:
Life Drawing!
We will start off light this time. Draw a person (or persons) who you know (or may not know) from life in a relaxed position.
When doing this, remember to concentrate on the form of the body rather than the specific details.
The deadline for this will be Friday, June 18 Midnight EST! Good luck!

Well, since I didn't make it that means more FFXI time for me. :DWell keep in mind we judged the pics on many criteria, one of them being how much the artist can learn through this contest... that being said, not all the judges had the same criteria in mind...
Anyway get to your drawing boards people! You've got less than a week to do this rather simple assignment! Needless to say, it's going to get worse after ;)

Well keep in mind we judged the pics on many criteria, one of them being how much the artist can learn through this contest... that being said, not all the judges had the same criteria in mind...So, what, you're saying Bic was too good to enter? :p j/k

Aww man, I was really looking forward to competing, it sounds like a lot of fun :( Oh well :sad: Congratulations to the lucky 12 who did make it :) Especially you, Bubblegum Girl :anime: You're like the only Toon Zoner who's art I've ever really paid attention to :sweat:

I have a question about the assignment. Does it have to be full body or can it just be a head?Full body. The goal of this exercise si mainly to capture the essence of the pose. My advice to you: doodle a whole lot before coming up with the final drawing!
Should the completed assignment be sent to the same address that the initial entry was sent to?Indeed. Or send it to Outie. Don't send it to me, as I will be away next week (but I'll be back the week after to go rough on you guys, don't you worry about that! :D )

I was wondering, for those that didn't make it/will be voted out, can a speparate thread be made if they want to follow along with the assignments and get general critiques?

Okay, how finished of a product should our life drawing be? Is it allowed to be sketchy in nature, or does it have to look cleaned up? (I ask this because I just sketched my particular quarry without their knowledge, and it's not like I can tell them to sit back down and wait while I finish. Yay for that. Gah.)

Gah.)It CAN be sketchy, as long as it's not a quick doodle that took you 3 minutes. Try to refine your drawing as much as you can. And when I say refine, I don't mean ink or color... just design your shapes, impose your style... a well-done sketch will be ideal for this exercise :)

YAY!!:eek: I made it in! but, this is a bad time for this assignment!:( you see, im doing a drawing thing at our local park, and i got in. and i have to draw at least eight pencil drawings!:sweat: Ive got down two, so ill see if a can fit in this drawing assignment! I really want to too! I...CAN...DO...IT!!!;)

Remember guys... It doesnt have to be super detailed and colored and all that... Just needs to be a life drawing of someone. WELL within the realm of doable in 8 hours :D

I'm going to send mine in as soon as my scanner stops acting up. This is torture since I managed to get [have] a fever this week, and having to draw was hellish for me.
I managed to sketch my dad [he doesn't know] as he was watching TV, he moved a lot which was annoying. But hey, at least I have a working sketch. No one likes to pose for me around here. :(

Well.... due to the fact that the majority has not gotten their work in... i am pushing the deadline back to Saturday, 11:59PM! This will be the ONLY time I do this. After this, From now on, NO ONE will get a break! Period!
Remember... there is a prize involved and there were others who wanted to be involved. You also have people who want you guys to do your best... dont let them down.

No one likes to pose for me around here. :(I know how you feel. I sketched my mom while she watched TV, and while she moved her arms and head, her body generally remained in the same position, so I was able to work with what I had and just guess for the rest. I'm sure she wouldn't have minded posing for me, but I really didn't want to ask anyone. It's hard to look relaxed when you know a person's drawing you, ya know?

OhmygodIloveyou. Not only was I completely swamped with final projects, I had to go to a graduation ceremony, so there was NO WAY I was gonna get anything in. Phwee... Saturday it is! And from then on, I'll be on time!

'Guest judge' - aww I feel so official now :D Seriously though it was a pleasure to do and good luck to everyone in the next round, I'm looking forward to seeing those landscapes.
