ADV started a small crackdown on fansub sites that probably won't last long. They emailed the fansub distros with a list of titles they owned that, if they were distributing them, they demanded be taken down. I won't name any sites. The list:

Azumanga Daioh
D.N. Angel
Final Fantasy: Unlimited
Full Metal Panic
Gantz
Golden Boy
Gravion
King of Bandit Jing
Martian Successor Nadesico (Nadesico)
Mezzo
Najica (Najica Blitz Tactics)
Neon Genesis Evangelion (Evangelion)
Noir
Original Dirty Pair
Peace Maker
Pretear
Princess TuTu
Puni Puni Poemy
Rahxephon
Robotech
Saint Seiya
Sailor Moon
Sakura Wars
Samurai X
Slayers
Spriggan
Steel Angel Kurumi
The Super Milk-Chan Show
Those Who Hunt Elves II
UFO Princess Walkure (UFO Princess Valkyrie) Ushio and Tora
Zaion: I Wish You Were Here (I Wish You Were Here) Zone of Enders : Dolores (Z.O.E. Dolores)Gantz? When did they license that?

Hmm,Anime on DVD (http://www.animeondvd.com/) Says that Funi has it.
Licensing Speculation (04:54 PM EDT): While a digisub site reorganizes and takes down a variety of titles, one thing that's been learned via it is that Gantz appears to be licensed. While one site claims it's ADV that owns it, a check of whois via Network Solutions indicates that the domain name gantz.tv is picked up by FUNimation. Anyone taking odds on an Anime Expo announcement?

Yes, but didn't Funi also once hold a domain name for "One Piece"...and look what happened to that?

The thing is if FUNi said they had it, why would ADV Films give a damn about it?

Either ADV screwed up or FUNi needs to get their priorities straight...

My bets that one of the two companies will announce it AX or Otakon. Since both Funi and ADV are on good terms with Gonzo, I'm at a loss as to which stands the best chance of snagging it given that both seem to have an interest in it. Funimation has a lot on it's plate though, and it doesn't have nearly the dubbing capacity of ADV (which has 14 studios running at any given time,) so if Funi does have Gantz, it'll be a while before they can fit it in.

Hmmm, guess we'll find out at AX. The companies usually don't so a whole lot of anouncements at Otakon, and Gantz would be a pretty major aquisition.
