I just thought of this.

For thos eof us going to AnimeNEXT in NJ in 2 weeks, FoxBox is having a panel on Saturday from 1-2pm. Assuming 4Kids people are there we could politley inquite about uncut One Piece as well as inquire about saving OP from the horros tof too much editting.

If 4Kids ever does release an uncut, subtitled version they probably should....

1) Use the scripts put out by Kaizoku Fansubs, with no censorship to the dialogue
2) More than three episodes per DVD. Two or three disc sets would work very well.

I also hope 4Kids uses the original music in their Fox Box dub, but I've already given up hope on that. The fact that they're starting to release uncut versions of their best properties is my only light of hope.

True, but I figured since a number of us are going to the con we can least make noise about OP and let someone hear us.

Hell no. 4Kids will probably either use Paul Taylor (who translates Pokémon IIRC), or steal away Steven Simmons from FUNimation for the translation. They're not going to ask a fansubber for translations.

Keep in mind that 4Kids changes the English scripts after the translation is complete.

There are only going to be voice actors at AnimeNEXT not FoxBox executives. So the best we can hope for is some vague idea of who might be who in the dub (OK, maybe we can hear if an uncut dub is being planned). I doubt the VAs will have any idea about a hybrid DVD release (uncut sub & dub).

Well perhaps the VAs could voice the concern of the fans back to the execs?

I will be among the Fox Box VAs at the panel of which you speak. I can tell you now I know nothing of One Piece's acquisition other than what I've read today.

If there was anything we knew, we probably couldn't discuss it because of our Non-Disclosure Agreements. anyway.

May I suggest that the best way to voice your opinions would be to become a 4Kids stockholder and thereby contact management? That would probably be more effective than asking VAs to relay messages for you.

Yea, relaying through the VAs wouldn't be a good idea, especially since these guys so other work besides 4Kids...

Why wouldn't 4Kids hire someone at KF to translate for them? Or just buy their scripts?

Ferquin

'Cause fansubbers don't own jack squat. Just 'cause they translated it doesn't mean they have a cut of the rights that 4Kids now owns. Maybe they could hire 'em, provided that they're actually hiring for translators and scriptwriters. But they sure as hell ain't gonna pay for a fan-slation when they can get industry professionals that have been doing this legally for years to make new translations and scripts.

itsamike has the right idea. But something more realistic would be starting a letter-writing campaign or paper petitions to keep One Piece uncut. More than likely, there'll be an uncensored sub version if the company sees a tangible demand for it (i.e. letters and paper petitions) and if it'll actually be profitable.

Going over to AnimeNext and whining to V.A.'s like babies isn't gonna help.

Hooray! At last, a voice of measured reason on the future of One Piece and associated concerns. You have my thanks, as a fan of the original who still feels the best is yet to come for Luffy and crew.

Hey Mike I think you'd make a great Buggy the clown. If you don't know who that is, then check out volume 2 of the One Piece manga graphic novels. Do something like Eggman with a hint of Meat with a little added goofyness and that'd be fantastic.

As for a main character you'd probably make a good Chopper (the funky kind of animal guy), but I haven't even heard Chopper's Japanese VA yet so I wouldn't know.

See if you can get Sean Schemmel to do Usopp! (the guy with the long nose, if his name ends up changed)

Buggy (as he's known originally, again, if his name is changed) is a Clown Pirate, a variation of your Eggman voice would be good.

Are you the casting director?Nope. I'm just an actor.

I was parodying the popular Yiddish expression "Foon dein moil in gotz oieren" which means "From your mouth to God's ears." It's usually said in reply to a good wish. But in this case, rather than God hearing your good wishes, I'd want the Casting Director to hear them.

See if you can get Sean Schemmel to do Usopp!I saw Sean yesterday. Next time I see him I'll pass that along.

Yeah I think Buggy would be perfect for you. Chopper sounds more like a child but I never payed precise attension to his other forms.

Buy 4Kids stock?

I can see it now. A coalition of fanboys buys majority share of the company...

4Kids has licenced One Piece!

Contact them and politely tell them you disagree with their anime handling policies (specifically mention One Piece) and add to the ensuing Fan Backlash.
Only while you're backlash-ing, use all due caution (this is from one who once learned by very bad experience): make certain to stay polite enough that you don't risk lending your voice to a complete back-lash of the entire project...back across the pond to whence it came.

And that goes even if you get shunted along to a FoxBox public relations rep!!

Even more to the point, if you're going to AnimeNEXT, please leave the pitchfork or torch at home!!! ;)

For my part, I plan to send along some sort of variation on the benign form letter that's already beginning to make copies of itself on this and other boards...!

Let there be One Peace for One Piece, all down the line. :anime:

I understand, of course, you must not have been reading any of my other posts on the subject.

I only used the term Backlash for lack of a better term at the time, if you cna supply a better term, I'm all open.

and I'm in Florida , I can't afford to go to AnimeNEXT

Schemmel's a little old sounding to play Usopp (big nose). IMO the best role for him is "Red Haired" Shanks. But ya know... they've probably already started dubbing. But if they haven't then be sure to mention that role to Sean Mike. Shanks, remember that name. He's the mentor character of sorts, it's not a large part but it's an important one.

I humbly apologize. And I'm sure you'll understand that by "you" I meant the "editorial you," to go for anyone at all who might have read my very strange post and does live close enough to be at AnimeNEXT.

I do, in fact, and very well might be on the premises in very careful disguise.

Just so you realize, the talent are mere pawns when it comes to casting. It's up to the casting director to invite us to audition and tell us what to audition for. We can't say, "ooh, can I play this guy?" So while I appreciate the recommendations, there's really nothing I can do about it.
