After all of the complaining over Wizard's list of top 100 cartoons of all time, a few like me think that the Toonzone members should collaborate on a list!
If it's not too much trouble could some moderater make this an important thread? I think this is important enough for high exposure to Toonzone posters.
I'm not going to post a list, because I want to see the other's reactions. I also didn't start this thread to make my own views prominant. But I want to see a lot of lists and explanations of why you like a certain cartoon! ;)
Important rule: BE POLITE! , don't become a magalomanic shouting anamdaversions at each other!
The poll at the top has little importance! You don't have to vote on it! I haven't ironed the wrinkles out yet, but at least we have a thread.

My two best cartoons don't really fall into any of those catagories.
1. Battle Of The Planets - orginally of Japanese origin, but it's the added score by Hanna Barbara regualar Hoyt Curtain and top voice artists like Casey Kasem and Alan Young that make this so great. Sandy Frank hit a home run with this one.
2. He-Man And The Master's Of The Universe - perhaps you should add a catagory for 70's/80's Filmation that includes Flash Gordon, He-Man, Space Sentinels, Tarzan, She Ra.... again top score, great stories and wonderful characters. John Erwin is the only man who I have ever heard utter 'I Have The Power!' with such gusto and self belief!!! :D

I think the two big catagories are going to be MODERN PRIME TIME and CLASSIC WB, as they spawned some of the most well known toons of today. Classic WB for making the many popular toons we love in the first place and starting a golden age of animation,
...and modern for the Simpsons and all the toons IT spawned. Besides that, it started up other studios like WB and the other networks to produce animation again (i.e., the early 80s when many Sat. toons fought with each other)
BTW, I voted for MODERN PRIME TIME.

How do I make this an important thread? Do any of the moderators do that? I think this thread really needs to be seen!
I like the ideas! If a favorite does not fall in a one of the options, that doesn't really matter, because I'm also interested in discriptions!

I vote for Japanese, mainly JUST because those shows usually have PLOTLINES........and good animation...most of the time.......more often than most american shows.....

I don't think that it needs to be made important, but yeah, mods do that. Everyone will see this eventually.
I voted for Looney Tunes. When you ask the guy on the street to explain cartoons, 9 out of 10 times it'll involve the LTs.

See, now here's why I'm having such a hard time developing a "best" list. I like different cartoons for different reasons. One guy may think the first Mickey Mouse cartoon is the primo of the primo. Some guy may think an old short about Porky Pig eating a bowl of spaghetti was pure genius. Another guy may think Mobile Suit Gundam (insert sequel title here) is the best meditation on war ever made, etc,.
I can see "Most influential" cartoons, and maybe "Most groundbreaking" cartoons, but I find "best" cartoons is the hardest list to devise.

I'm agreeing with Larry, as usual. There's just way too much that falls under the category of "cartoon." The Wizard list wasn't so much a ranking as it was a current popularity contest, and clearly biased towards the current American audience. No anime unaired in the U.S. and no European shows at all (unless you count the Smurfs).
Personally, well, it's hard to say. I said Japan just because they have a tendency to do the stranger, trippier shows that I love, like NGE, Lain, and Utena.
Still think the greatest short title should go to "Duck Amuck"

I went with Modern Prime Time only because I don't know where Batman the Animated Series would fall.

I'm solidly with LLJ and Lachesis. I can't name a "best" cartoon any more than I can name a "best" book or a "best" song. There are too many different kinds with too many good but incomparable qualities.

I voted Classic WB. Come on, Bosko, Buddy and Porky are way better than some crap from Japan. (What I mean is the stuff like Pokemon. Tenchi, Sailor Moon and DBZ are cool anime)

Classic WB cartoons and Anime are the best. But I voted for WB. I'v grown up with these cartoons since I was very little.

I voted on this poll (sorry, won't tell you which one!) but I can't help but wonder what is meant by "the best." Durability? The Looney Tunes continue to entertain audiences nearly fifty years after their creation. Clever and witty writing? The "silver age" shows probably will be best known for that. Originality? Style? Depth? A lot of anime programs have those qualities and more.
I guess what I'm trying to say, in short, is that I like almost all animation, for different reasons. It's incredible to see all the different, creative directions people take with basically the same tools.
