View Full Version : Announcement: My Departure

Back in late 1998, when I discovered this website, if you would have told me that I was going to be an active Graphic Designer, Webmaster, & Administrator for 4 years, I would’ve called you delusional. I’ll try to keep this short as possibly, as not to bore you, at least not too much. Over the years I’ve had a lot of fun, made lots of friends, progressed my skills, occasionally ran into a few problems, but overall I had a good experience. In the past year or so my free time has been cut to a minimum. I used to work on the site all the time, but after I got a real job, time got cut back. For a while it was all I could do to edit and run my online comic book. I recently graduated from High School and plan on going immediately into college this fall. Those of you that have gotten to know me will agree to the fact that I’m a huge NHRA Powerade Drag Racing fan. This is where my career goals lie, as I would like to dive into the business side of my favorite sport. Unfortunately coloring, editing, and maintaining an online comic book, running it’s website, as well as making graphics for another animation site, do not lend themselves in any way towards my career plan. I know that once I start school I won’t have the time to do this stuff and frankly as I dive into my career, my heart just isn’t into the site like it should be. So I have decided to hang it up. Effective immediately I will be leaving the World’s Finest. I don’t foresee myself coming back. I’ve given a good two months of thought into this decision.

Some of you may be wondering what will happen to my online comic book, the Dark Knight Adventures. I am giving the day-to-day editing keys to James McLean (SJJ). I will stay on with the title of Founder & Executive Editor. Technically I’m still onboard, but it will not be to the extent of what it has been in the past. I’ll still be in charge, as I don’t want to overwhelm and kill my good buddy James; I just won’t be around as often as before. Bird Boy has graciously agreed to upload new issues, as well as maintain the website. James has also agreed to post all the site announcements and talkbacks that coincide with every new issue. He will also be sending out the new issue announcements to eNOTE subscribers. The position of colorist is still vacant, but for the next issue one of the Toon Zone founders, Eileen "Harley" Delgadillo, will fill the position. The Dark Knight Adventures is in good hands, folks.

This isn’t all just about me, though. I’ve got to tell you about the good people that work on this site. Jim Harvey & Bird Boy have become two of the greatest friends a guy could ever want. I don’t know how he does it, but I’ll bet you money that Bird Boy puts in 30 WF work-hours a week. Working with these two guys, making new versions of the site was an absolute blast. I’ll always cherish our crazy WF Chats, Waannda. James McLean, what else can I say, this guy is awesome. His story telling, artwork, you name it is impeccable, but not only that his friendship is one I’ll always cheerish. Dark Knight Adventures wouldn’t be where it is today with out him. Silver Knight will always be a great friend. I think she is one of the few that I’ve kept in touch with nearly my entire time at this site. Keep those cookies coming, SK. Salvor, I know that DKA’s covers will always look sharp! I don’t know what we would’ve done had he not volunteered to do our covers! I also need to thank Toon Zone’s “big three,” Brian, Harley, & Colin. Without these kind folks this site would not be here. I know I’m not thanking everybody I’ve met and became friends with, but there wouldn’t be enough bandwidth in the world to tell you about them all. Thank God that I was able to meet all these cool people.

I hope everybody has enjoyed my contributions to this site, I know I had fun making them …well most of them. If you are curious as to what these contributions are, look at the biography section in my public profile. All good things must come to an end, I guess. I still plan on keeping up with everybody, probably browse through the forums every so often, but I am honestly glad that the work load is over! If you’ve read this far into the post, thanks! I’ll see you all around.

Wow, what can I say... I knew you were leaving DKA but I had no idea you were leaving WF as well. Man, I wish you the best of luck for your career goals. Thanks for being a great editor, and a good man.

And you'd better keep in touch with us indeed!

You've always been a great guy, Flash, and you've always been good to me and the Watchtower. I'll miss your presence on these boards, and I hope that your career bears fruit. Take care, buddy.

Well hopefully you'll be like Jim and write at least 10 more farewell announcements and STILL be here... :)

Here's hoping.

Not so much a goodbye from me as I'll still be in contact, so more just a salute to your good work.

Flash is a wonderful guy. I think I've been in contact with him since I started modding at TZ over two years ago and had a lot of fun chatting to him before we even started on the DKA thing.... I remember I'd been out of contact with him from the summer of 2002 because he'd started more work hours in and I was at Uni.. the DKA think was really out of the blue and was great as it recemented our friendship.

Whatever he does now he can take away with him the experience of making the biggest DCAU site look so special and starting a comic book which, unlike most comic books, is still going strong a year on. That is all down to him. Well done mate. You're a great boss to work with - so much so, I don't think I'd be comfortable with anyone else taking your place.. so I'm glad that you are still my boss in spirit if not on a daily level!

Good luck Ian!

Well. I suck with goodbyes. So, I'll make this succient.

>leaves a cookie on the table for Flash/Flesh/Fleash/Flush< Hopefully, if you ever get to it, I won't be all old and cruddy. ;)

Best of luck, dude. I mean that.

Well, as one of the guys who created probably my favourite site, and runs one of my favourite comics, as well as this very board, it's sad to see you go, mate.

Best of luck to you in your drag racing carear, and all the best.

I just went through some of our early AIM convos for old time sake...I stumbled upon when "Hard as Nails" had just aired, when you were still planning the "Lobo" section...hell, even our first chats of planning World's Finest new look. We had no idea what we were doing then...and yet Jim let us screw around on his site anyway. Amazing it's been so long since we started (going on two years)...Damn nostalgia. Gettin' all choked up here.

Hope you still keep in touch--always fun to talk to you on AIM, MSN, wherever. May the memories of sisters, Wanda and other jokes live on forever...

Later bub.

Wow dude, thanks for all of your hard work on the site over the years... I've really enjoyed what you, Jim, and BB have done with the place and it has come to mean a great deal to me over the course of time. Sorry to see you leave, and good luck with all of your future endeavors no matter where they take you. While I've never had the pleasure of interacting with you to the extent that I have some of your cohorts... nothin' like JL and some reefer. :p

Well hopefully you'll be like Jim and write at least 10 more farewell announcements and STILL be here... :)

Hey...:)

I think I said I'd be gone for a few months whenever I did those, not forever. And I did take a lengthy break. I'm slowly inching myself back in, once everything gets ironed out. But yeah...unless I leave for good, I think I should avoid those "farewell" announcements...

You'll be missed around here, Flash. I can't believe this great partnership (fellowship, if you will) between you, I, and Bird Boy is coming to an end. It's been an incredibly two years, an amazing journey. You did an amazing job, man, and you will be missed around here. Hopefully you will stay in touch. I know me, Bird Boy, Gareb and Wanda aren't going to far. Best of luck to you, friend. Later on,

-Jim

You and BB have always been such a dynamic duo for me...it'll be odd to just soley bug BB now for the most part...but not unbearable ;)
*hug*
You've always been such an integral part of WF, and then TZ, and just everywhere in general. You've worked your ass off so hard behind the scenes and put in so much of yourself, along with Jim and BB, into the greatest that is The World's Finest.
I'm glad you'll be sticking around in some part. But as always, real life endeavors are always first priority, and I hope you have a lot of success for whatever you put your mind to.
Love you hon.

It's sad to see someone who has obviously done so much work and is a very nice person go. Good luck to you in where you go from here, and thank you for doing so much for this great site and an excellent web comic.

i havent been here over a year and beside teen titans and justice league, i rarely come on the dc board but you have been a good person with a relaxed temper that some others need in these forums. God bless with your career and show John FORCE and Brandon Brenstein who's boss.

Don't go! *clings*Who is going to teach me about sports cars and race car driving...and to hear me rant about the Grand Prix coming to my city. :(

Of all people I never thought once you'd leave DKA and WF. You will be missed but doesn't mean I won't bug ya online *pounce* :D

*huggles* Whatever your path is , I'm sure it's a bright one in life!

I know my 2 years being here at ToonZone I never got the chance to talk to you, but I am sorry to hear that you are leaving us, and for the future I hope you will have a great time out there and for us including every staff member of ToonZone and some of us users wish the best of luck out there and hope you will post for just one day here, hope to see you soon, and good luck out there.

Add me to the "stunned" crowd. Its going to be very bizarre not seeing you around here, Flash. You'll definitely be missed, but I can understand your decision. You're prioritizing your life in the right way, IMO. I hope in the future you find some free time and are able to come back and hang out with all of us again on a regular basis. It won't be the same without ya. :(

Now The Flash is leaving? I'm :( for his departure but  :) for his future. World's Finest (http://wf.toonzone.net) benefitted so much from your efforts, and for you newbies it's worth a special pilgrimage to see the "Heart of Ice" tribute.

Maybe someday we'll see a car cross the finish line with a curiously familiar logo among its brightly colored ads. ;)

Take care.

Awww...well, you mentioned something like this a while ago, so I knew it was coming, but it's still sad to see someone go. What you're doing in our place had better be worthwhile!

Take care man - and don't be a stranger on AIM and all that jazz. :)

Flash, my friend, I kept putting off reading this not just because of time, but also because it kind of caught me off guard. We haven't AIM'd in a while, but it was always talking with you when we did. Back when I joined the forums (because of this place actually) you were one of the many welcoming ones which is always appreciated. :) And when I became a mod (two years ago this month actually) you were not only welcoming there too, but said it was no big surprise that I was picked to "join your ranks" and you saw it coming. It was nice to be thought of highly by a poster I thought of highly so thanks for everything.

You have done all kinds of great work here so I won't try to come up with examples, but I've been impressed with all of it. I did always love those Flash avatars though. Party hats, snow, cowboy hat, what didn't you have your namesake doing? :D

Good luck with everything and hopefully I'll still see you around.
