Hey there ho there folks. Geez, you guys look hungry. How about a new Fresh Question? Yeah, you'd like that wouldn't you.

By reason of your immense hunger, I'll keep the preliminaries short and sweet. Of the CDs/Cassetes/....8tracks, what is the one album you listen to most, and why??

Note: This post was altered to due to the board change.

Tough one. Right now, I'm playing the heck out of the new Joydrop CD. It's the best CD I've bought this year, honestly, might be the best CD I've ever bought. One of the few I love the whole way through. Overall, I'd say Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Greatest Hits or No Doubt Tragic Kingdom. The first tape I ever bought was Tom Petty Greatest Hits, and the songs on there go through all aspects of life pretty much, the ups and the downs. As for No Doubt, I listened to that album to and from school for about a year and a half during the hour bus ride. I know it backwards and forwards...

Normally, as soon as I get a new cd I play it repeatedly until everyone around me gets sick of it.

Lately, I've constantly had: Sum*41 - All Killer No Filler, Less Than Jake - Hello, Rockview, A New Found Glory - A New Found Glory, and AFI - The Art of Drowning

All good cds. I've pretty much made everyone on my floor hate all four of those bands, however.

Oh, and there's a song that I heard the other day that I've been playing at least 4 or 5 times a day since then. It's by a band called Mest, and the song is titled "Cadillac". Now, it's a punk band, but more of a pop-punk, and the song is really catchy. Check it out if ya can.

Jeez.... I suppose my own stuff. The amount of time I've had to listen to those songs for professional reasons... good lord...

Um, CD's.... I have not got a clue.

Faith No More: King For A Day Fool For A Lifetime is a top contender
.... as is Rocket From The Crypt - Scream Dracula Scream! Always there to put me in a good mood! :D I recommend them both for rock with a twist. Both are very different from each other!!

(My single, Enigma can be heard at Holier Than Thou Records (http://www.holierthanthourecords.com) look for LANDAU!!!!) ;)

Van Halen. Why? It is simply the greatest rock n roll album ever created.

I think Bon Jovi's Cross Road is my new favorite album. I listen to that all the time. Actually, I like pretty much everything by Bon Jovi, but 3 Doors Down's The Better Life is really good, too.

Tool's Lateralus and Aenima are always near my CD player. I've been listening to Big Wreck's The Pleasure and The Greed regularly since I got it a few months ago. Just recently, I've been listening to I Mother Earth's Scenery and Fish an ungodly number of times. It's an old album, but I'd read so much about them and I only recently got around to checking them out. Too bad they're pretty much non-existent to the US.

Another favorite album of mine is 311's self titled album. I love that CD! A little heavy on the language, but still very good, very meaningful, too....

BTW, POST 800!!! WOOHOO!!! What a landmark!!!

Tough tough question - but I think the CD I listen to the most at the moment is XTC's Upsy Daisy Assortmrnt (effectively a greatest hits CD). There really are some corking songs on there (including my 'theme tune' if you will, 'The Mayor of Simpleton'). The only thing it hasn't got on there I'd like is 'Sergeant Rock'...

Oh, Calhoun07, my wife ADORES Nick Cave - but I prefer a little Tom Waits personally!!!

I don't have any CD's I listen to cuz I make my own custom CD's with "The Best of Fish vol 1-2-3-4" ect.
But there are some artists I listen to more than others:

Linkin Park, The Bletchly Park Project, Metallica, alot of anime music and Serras' album "Serras"

Oh btw - just to make my brother happy I will now promote the band Dizzy Mizz Lizzy. Just in case you peeps are hunting for som new music to DL, Cuz I am gonna try out some of the bands you guys posted here :)

Leonard Cohen started out as a poet in Canda in the 60's and became a folk singer, and over the years has gained quite a cult following. I first heard of him when I watched an episode of Austin City Limits where he sang. Very deep lyrics, a voice you have to hear to believe, wickedly jazzy music that gets to your soul, I was hooked immediately. I would have to do some searching for MP3s (but I haven't found any personally, tho I do know they are out there) of his music if you want to dl them, but for now, you can at least hear 30 second clips of his music at amazon.com or cdnow.com. He just released a new CD called Ten New Songs.

As for Nick Cave, he used to play with the goth punk band the Birthday Party then explored his goth punk roots even further in the Bad Seeds (most stores carry his music under Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds). His music has been heard in X Files and Dumb and Dumber (the scene with Jim Carrey and the mail box (or is that a newspaper dispenser??) features Nick Cave's song "Red Right Hand.") I first got hooked when I saw him in Wings of Desire, in which he played some of his songs live and the starring actress in the movie was always playing his albums. Tho he has toned down some what now to a more mellow sound, he's still making great music. He recently released a CD called "And No More Shall We Part," and chances are you will see his videos on 120 Minutes.

Who's laughing? While I am not a fan of all his musicals, he has written some great music that is better than alot of stuff out there. Personally, my favorite Broadway soundtracks (well, the only two I really like!) are Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables. Of course, I know Les Mis isn't Andrew Lloyd Webber, but it's the best sound track ever!

Like bloodone, I usually play the heck out of any new CD I get until I'm tired of it, and then it gets shelved for a while.

But I usually have at least one or more of the following in my 5-disc changer at any given time: Tool/Perfect Circle (gee, who would have guessed given my signature at the bottom of my posts!), Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, and/or Rollins Band.

Most listened to? That's a hard one for me. Lately I've just been making CDs from songs I download, and usually when I get a CD I'll listen to it until I get sick of it. Mostly I've just been listening to my custom burned CDs.

The songs I've been listening to the most lately would have to be Birdhouse in Your Soul by They Might Be Giants and The Goonies - Theme Song. I could play them over and over for hours :D And, oh yes, Pocket Monsters songs in French (even though I've no clue what they're saying :))

I really think we should all start listening to The Who. Really good band with a lot of good songs. If fact, I'll go pop on a song by them now.

S&M is a down right good album - excellently put together - my only grumble is that it's live. Sorry, but for such a unique and ambitous project, I resent having the group goad the tuneless crowd into singing 'Enter Sandman' and 'For Whom The Bell Tolls'. This should have been either a live studio album or a performance with no crowd interaction. It's too good a concept to hear out of tune wailing!!!

So where are the best places to go on the internet to download such songs? I am getting a CD burner on my computer soon (yeah, I know, I am stepping into the 90's!) and I know I will be making this my new hobby. So far I know of MP3.com but I know there has to be more out there than that.

All my Dylan tapes get a lot of play (as does my harmonica). Also my Ray Stevens, Weird Al, and all my comedy tapes, esp. Jeff Foxworthy. "If the front of your shirt doubles as your hankerchief, you might be a redneck."

Among others:

-Side 2 of "Purple Rain" by Prince
-The Bette Midler single "Wind Beneath My Wings/Oh Industry"
-My custom mixed CDs
-Side 2 of The Power Station's self-titled debut
-George Carlin tapes and CDs

Diverse...Now if only they released a complete "Purple Rain" soundtrack with the songs by The Time, Appolonia 6 and Dez Dickerson, then I'd be happy.

Sincerely,

Ah yes, there are so many upstarts, but only a select few that I always go back to. Numero uno on the list would be Led Zeppelin. Pink Floyd's "The Wall" and "Dark Side of the Moon" as right behind. Tom Petty's greatest hits is also there, as is Helmet. Currently, the list consists of the lastest from Staind, Godsmack, and Taproot. I also enjoy "Transformers:The Movie" soundtrack and a Godzilla soundtrack from the beginning to 1998. I'm also a big listener of Foo Fighters, Counting Crows, and the Wallflowers.

Frozen,

I *love* The Power Station! "Get It On (Bang A Gong)" is as good as the original. I'm partial to "Go To Zero" and "Some Like It Hot", myself. Robert Palmer with members of Duran Duran and Chic...some of the best musicians of the 80s, IMO!

Sincerely,

John "Captain Caps" Kilduff

Did you get the LP they had out a few years ago - bit of a mixed bag, but there are some great tracks on there!

Palmers kinda wierd. He's been around for ever (he started out in the late sixties with a band called The Alan Bown Set, I think...), he's sold umpteen million LP's, released more than twenty albums, and yet... well... he just doesn't seem to be either that well respected by music fans (a lot of 'em just dismiss him as 'fluff') or famous.

I know he's no Nick Cave or Leonard Coen, but he's actually a very accomplished and skilled musician. I don't know, he confuses me. I bought my first Palmer LP when I was 13, and then I bought all the rest, because I actually quite like his music (for a bit of light relief from the wacky insanity of Yello, or the gravitas of Peter Gabriel, two of my other faves...), but he's never REALLY made it big, has he..?

Oh yeah, I always thought 'Get It On' was better than the original too..! :)

How about the Best of the Steve Miller Band? Is there any possible way somebody could ever get tired of listening to that CD? Or CCR. How could their music ever get old?

Tough question... and I can't even narrow it down to one... However, here are some of the albums that I've been listening to quite a bit lately:

Linkin Park -- Hybrid Theory
Lit -- Atomic
American Hi Fi -- American Hi Fi
Fuel -- Something Like Human

I find, no matter what, I always gravitate back to the first disc of The Beatles 1967-1970. "Strawberry Fields Forever" up through the "Revolution" single, with Sgt Pepper pieces, "I Am the Walrus," and "Hey Jude." I know, predictable. As Cal says, CCR is great. So's Palmer. He hit it biggest around 1985 or so, when he did those videos with all the models. Now I'm going to go insane over the next week as I sing "Might as well face it, you're addicted to love!" over and over.

I'm with ya. I have Live at Leeds (original CD, not the new release with added tracks from Tommy) in my CD-Rom drive now, and before that was alternating between Tommy and Sell Out. :D
I have Who's Next in my car's player but have been listening to the radio while driving lately.

For me, it's hard to say what CD I listen to the most these days. I usually listen to the mp3s on my computer - I mainly listen to anime/j-pop tunes. And right now, I really love Ozzy's songs "Dreamer" and "Running Out of Time" from his new album.

But the CDs that get the most play from me are the ones by Alice Cooper - he's been my long term favourite! Some of my favourite albums are Classicks, Billion Dollar Babies, Hey Stoopid, The Last Temptation, and Love It To Death.
