It's summer which means ABC is dumping the final season of "The Drew Carey Show" on the schedule to watch it die. I don't think anyone can deny "Drew" has been on it's last legs for a while and after the unpopularity of the threads last time I've decided we should say good-bye to Drew and his pals in this single thread. Find out if Cleveland still Rocks at 9 p.m. ET every Wednesday on ABC.

"Drew Hunts Silver Fox"
Season Premiere!!
Last season, Drew was left at the altar by his runaway bride. The wedding fiasco makes Drew realize whom he's really in love with -- long-time friend Kellie. But as their relationship heats up - and Kellie makes a really big announcement - Drew can't get the girl of his dreams to commit. Meanwhile, circumstances force Mimi to move in with Drew! In the season opening episode, things get ugly when Drew and Oswald compete to fix their moms up (guest stars Marion Ross as Beulah, Adrienne Barbeau as Kim) with the same eligible widower (guest star Mitchell Ryan).

"Eye of the Leopard"
Drew goes overboard when he coaches Gus (guest star Matthew Josten) at soccer, and the little guy's aggressive playing terrifies his teammates. Meanwhile Lewis is attracted to Kellie's beautiful cousin, April (guest star Jennifer Jostyn), despite Kellie's warnings that she has serious emotional problems.

Isn't Gus the child of Mimi and Drew's cross dressing brother? Looks like this show's gone the route of aging an infant to a pre-teen.
And ABC is really at fault here. Why give a show an unbreakable three year contract only to start bouncing the show around the schedule a few months later?

As a former fan of this show, I feel that there is one way - and only one way - to end it: Drew waking up from a dream and telling it to Lisa a la the finale of "Newhart".

I gave up on it in 2002; it really went downhill. I think that it would have been better to end the series after Mimi and Steve's marriage; they'd have around 150 episodes of syndication, and the series would have ended on a bright note. Instead, Drew just went into overkill and drug it into the ground.
Let's let ABC end it this summer; there's plenty of baseball to watch on Wednesday nights!
I don't know what's happened to Drew Carey. One moment I'm watching a show including Kate and Winifred Louder, then I'm watching a show with Kellie and some internet company. Can anyone tell me what happened? Because then I might be interested in it's final season.

Drew thought he was getting married in the last season finale, only to get stood up. It closed with him and Kellie dancing in an empty reception hall -- except for the band ("I paid for four hours, you're playing!").
Steve's gone, Mr. Wick is a weatherman, Mimi moved in with Drew and Lewis is going to end up owning half of the Warsaw.

Man, I knew a missed a couple episodes last summer, but I don’t remember any of what they showed before the first one started. Kellie and Drew admit their feelings? Steve and Mimi’s house burns down? Steve leaves Mimi and Gus? Drew’s dad dies?! Wow I missed a lot more than I thought. ABC interrupted the episodes last year with some kind of specials or something and that must have left me really lost as to when I needed to watch again.
This week’s episodes prove once again that one of the biggest problems with The Drew Carey Show these days is his workplace would have been funny four or five years ago. When Drew and his friends are just out interacting I enjoy it a lot more than when he goes to work.
Drew Hunts Silver Fox
Man, Drew’s mom was driving him absolutely crazy! I don’t think I could put up with anything remotely like that. Cheating Oswald out of Woody (Greg’s dad from Dharma & Greg for those of you long-time ABC comedy fans) was expected. Oswald’s mom could go with basically anyone.
I loved at the end of the episode when Paul the doctor was getting ready to walk out on Oswald after he started talking to him like his father and then Drew showed him the picture of Mrs. Harvey. Great stuff.
Eye of the Leopard
“Well let me tell you something, if I didn’t like Dilbert so much I’d cancel my paper right now.” I hope I got that line right because that was one of my favorite parts of the episode. Back when it was popular, Drew was often looked at as a live-action Dilbert (Rush Limbaugh even called Drew that once) so there was a little added joke in there.
As soon as I read the preview I figured Gus wasn’t a baby anymore and I think that will be good for the show’s final run. The soccer story was a “fun” one and I liked Drew’s face-offs with the paper boy about sportsmanship.
Lewis and Kellie’s klepto cousin sure could make a go of it. The evil hilarity of Lewis and Oswald planting fake things for her to steal was great. These two guys show that when you get desperate you have a lot of time to think of ideas to make things work for yourself.
It won’t be perfect, but this is looking to be at least a somewhat entertaining season.

Obviously, those things were never part of an actual episode but it was a segment they did to LOOK LIKE a "previously on...." review. I'm thinking it's their way of having a little bit of inside fun about their summer-only, burnoff status. It's the season you WOULD have seen if the show had been on during the "normal" TV season.

When Drew and his friends are just out interacting I enjoy it a lot more than when he goes to work. That's odd, because neither episode showed Drew at work. He was at home, at the Warsaw or at the soccer field. Only Kellie, who works at the Warsaw, was shown in their work environment.
I was more surprised that the entire first episode was Lewis-less!

"Foos Rush In"
Drew's new fun work environment goes kaput when easygoing Evan (guest star Kyle Howard) leaves on a yoga retreat and spoilsport Traylor (guest star Kaitlin Olson) seduces Scott (guest star Jonathan Mangum), convincing him to get rid of coffee breaks and the foosball table. Meanwhile Lewis romances the hirsute new cook at the Warsaw (guest star Sheeri Rappaport).

"Drew Thinks Inside The Box"
Drew and Kellie reach a milestone in their relationship when they exchange house keys. But things fall apart fast when Drew's boss, Scott (guest star Jonathan Mangum), asks for his help in hiding the fact that he's cheating on Traylor (guest star Kaitlin Olson), in exchange for seats in the corporate box at the Browns game. What starts out as simple lying gets far more complicated when Drew "loans" Scott the key to Kellie's apartment so he can have a clandestine tryst.

I used to be a big fan of The Drew Carey Show, but I haven't seen many of the new episodes from the last two or three years. I did manage to catch both episodes last night. The first episode was pretty good, and it definitely had some funny jokes during the second half. The second episode was simply okay. Overall it's fairly obvious that this is a show in its last season that probably should have ended a few years ago. Hopefully it will be able to go out on a high note and its stars will be able to find more success.
There was one thing that really bothered me during these two episodes. In a lot of shots it seemed like the camera was shaking a little bit. Did anybody else notice that?

Seems like they're using a hand-held. I noticed it when they were playing foosball, and in one scene at the Warsaw. Maybe they want some of the look of a "live" show.

These past two with the hairy waitress and the corporate box were pretty good. Seems like they're trying too hard with the jokes, though. I think I only laughed once or twice and jokes, two or three times at situations. But yeah, I'll keep watching.

I taped the episodes from last week and didn’t watch them right away so here are a few quick thoughts…
Foos Rush In
I actually kind of enjoyed Drew at work in this episode! I think it was because he, Mimi and Evan were just messing around at work until Traylor decided that the way to get more pull at the office than Drew was to start sleeping with the other brother (Scott). I think that the relationship between the polar opposite brothers was one of the better things about the office so I don’t know how things will go from here.
The subplot with Lewis getting free food from the mustached waitress was fun, but nothing overly special.
Drew Thinks Inside the Box
My favorite part of this episode was when Drew would admonish Scott for cheating on Traylor and then things would transition to the Browns skybox. Lewis had a little too much fun up there mocking the fans in the bleachers though. :p

ABC apparently put all the episodes from this season in a pile and then shuffled them because tonight we find out how Drew's dad died. Plus in the first episode we meet Kellie's parents.

"At Your Cervix"

"Sealed in a Kiss"
When his dad takes a tumble off Drew's roof and dies, Drew is devastated, all the moreso when he reads his late father's journal and realizes that he isn't mentioned once. Determined to give his father a great military send-off, his good intentions go terribly wrong when he orders a casket with a Marine Corps logo and instead gets one engraved with the logo for the rock band Kiss.

Sooo, anyone wanna talk about this week's Drew Carey episodes?
At Your Cervix
I like the brass band type music they used for the “Moon Over Parma” theme, overall the remixes of the three themes has been fun.
I feel like I’m missing some out of last season’s Drew, but I was pretty surprised Kellie is pregnant, that just isn’t something I would expect from a sitcom like Drew Carey. I did really enjoy the awkwardness of Drew going to tell Kellie’s parents and then we find out she hadn’t even told them yet! Plus the interaction between the two of them is very entertaining.
Buzz Beer used to be such an interesting part of the story and made for some pretty good episodes over the years, but now it feels pretty much useless. It’s just as well Oswald and Lewis have a controlling interest now because I doubt we’ll see anything about the coffee beer again.
It was a really nice gesture for Drew to remodel his garage so Kellie to move into an apartment of sorts near him. That could work out nicely.
Sealed in a Kiss
I always like it when Drew talks to Tony the bus driver. The actor, Bill Cobbs (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0167850/), was also one of the brighter spots of the Michael Richards Show so it’s nice seeing him still out there. Tony has such a negative viewpoint about pretty much everything that it’s usually pretty fun when Drew tries to seek advice from him.
So apparently we never saw Drew’s dad die? This whole thing is just confusing the heck out of me. It’s probably best not to dwell on it.
The KISS casket is one of those jokes that is kind of okay, but at the same time I just don’t find overly funny. It was kind of fun how Drew beat Kellie on the quiz and then proved that he couldn’t have gotten any help from Lewis and Oswald.

"Michigan J. Gus"
Drew can't figure out why he isn't getting along with little Gus (guest star Matthew Josten) any more. Every time he babysits his nephew, the kid turns into a holy terror, fueling Kellie's fear that Drew won't make a good father. Meanwhile, when Lewis and Oswald learn that Mimi is dating a wealthy widower, they comb the obituary pages to find eligible gals who've just lost their husbands.

Are you all giving up on Drew? After this season is over there will be no more.
Baby Makes Stress
The opening with Drew and Kellie hearing all the horror stories from the rundown parents was rather funny. I don’t have any kids myself, but they seemed to be having a heck of a time.
I liked how Drew, Lewis and Oswald brought up that they wanted to go bar hopping. The entire presentation was just funny to me. Not as funny as when Drew explained dedicating time to the baby like L&O were six-year-olds, but funny all the same.
With a kid on the way, Drew and the others are starting to “grow up” in some ways. It’s weird to see, but I suppose after this many years it was bound to happen.
Michigan J. Gus
I take back what I said about the characters growing up to some extent. Drew and Mimi seemed to have real issues figuring out that Gus loves them both and their constantly trading insults made for a tough environment for him to live in.
It was kind of funny in a wrong sort of way when Gus wouldn’t listen to Drew. He was just making a mess of everything and then immediately did what Lewis and Oswald told him to do. Kellie did not look happy when she came out to Drew smashing Gus’s plane. I wish the actor playing Steve Carey hadn’t left the show. “The Brotherhood of Poland, New Hampshire” was hardly worth leaving the show for.

Another new hour of Drew came your way tonight, I had to tape it so I'll check in with you all later. I hope you caught them, the second episode featured French Stewart of "3rd Rock" fame! Just to do something different I am going to use the pics of two characters that were always fun and could make the show better right now. Oh Nigel Wick and Steve Carey, where have you gone? :(

"No Booze For Drew"
Drew promises to stop drinking while Kellie is pregnant, since she can't imbibe -- but it's easier said than done, especially with Lewis and Oswald as friends. Meanwhile, Mimi becomes fixated on the handsome new messenger (guest star Reichen Lehmkuhl) and invents any excuse to have a package delivered.

Anyone for Drew Carey? Anyone at all?
No Booze For Drew
I was a fan of the instrumental “Cleveland Rocks” that kicked off this episode. The different versions of the themes has been a fun change the past couple years.
This episode was actually a lot of fun. Mimi and later Traylor had some very interesting behavior when it came to Lance the package guy. It was just funny to watch.
Drew’s attempt to give up drinking didn’t turn out well, but if Lewis and Oswald think they “turned out just fine” Kellie has reason to follow the not drinking while pregnant rule. Even if it is an “old wives’ tale.” :p
After Oswald lost part of his toe they had some great thoughts on lawsuits which I feel compelled to share now, “’cause it’s always someone else’s fault.” :D
“Why start a company when you can walk in front of the company, slip and sue the company, and wind up owning the company.” – Drew
“God bless the American legal system. A glorious machine that turns stupidity into cold hard cash.” – Lewis
Oswald buying into the Warsaw seemed very fitting and seems like just the place he should end up as we get ready to say good-bye to him and the others.
Drew's Best Friend
Kellie certainly regretted forcing Drew to meet the new neighbors. Buddy was quite the annoying guy and I consider it best that he won’t be a recurring character for the remainder of the season. I was impressed with his movie trivia though. :D
I did find it funny how after Drew helped out his “best friend” that then Buddy’s wife Sarah come crying to Kellie for help. Drew really wanted to get that letter started. ;)

But when Don's perfectionist standards are too high, Drew can't take it anymore and walks out. Meanwhile, Mimi turns to matchmaker Larry Almada (guest star Ian Gomez) to find her a love connection.

Umm... don't you mean ABC? :o Man, I do that sometimes when I'm just talking, but I've never written it down before. I doubt anyone tuned into NBC hoping to see Drew Carey though. Anyway...
A part of me wonders if they filmed a scene for the final credits for each of the episodes. If they did I’m disappointed we have two opening themes and only one closing. I guess I won’t know for sure until these last couple seasons come out on DVD (provided the series comes out at all).
Arrivederci, Italy
Fred Willard was great in his appearance as the low-budget travel agent. The man is always entertaining and this was no exception. Drew should have known better, but at least he didn’t go for the bee pollen.
I’m glad to see the Scott-Traylor relationship come to somewhat of an end. I really don’t care much for Drew’s workplace and the whole Scott cheating thing is over. :)
I thought it was sweet Kellie decided to wait until she and Drew could go to Italy together. For not wanting to get married they seem to be pretty close all the same. I bet they’ll be ready by the final episode.
House of the Rising Son-in-Law
“The celery keeps me regular; the alcohol keeps me married to her mother.” That really sums up Kellie’s parents. I like Don a lot better so it was nice seeing him as the parent in focus.
Don is definitely an interesting personality. He almost borders on bipolar the way he treated Drew and Lewis & Oswald when they tried their best in the kitchen. His overreaction to the ceiling fan was fun to watch. It was wise of Drew to tape it to show Kellie how her dad had been acting.
It was big of Drew to make the project last longer to keep Kellie’s dad happy. Don definitely seemed to enjoy there being more to do.
The two chickens talking about the people accent tiles as the final credits rolled was certainly entertaining. Lewis and Oswald did a good job with that.
Thanks SJJ, it's nice to know I'm not alone. You don't like Quintuplets (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=114204) by chance do you? :p

But fearing another accident, Drew tells the truth. Guilt-ridden, Drew convinces Scott (Jonathan Mangum) to hire Tony at neverendingstore.com - but he soon learns that no good deed goes unpunished.

"Dog Soup"
I find I don’t really have much to say about this episode. I kind of like it and anything that involves DrugCo usually proves to be entertaining and that was the case here.
Chain Lightening seemed to put together a pretty good run even without the drugs, Drew and company shouldn’t have went against him.
"Asleep at the Wheel"
It’s been a while since we’ve had that version of “Cleveland Rocks.” I don’t know who sings it, but I always like that one.
Poor Tony the bus driver, Drew was boring him to death with his problems and caused him to nod off. The guy has had a heck of a time ever since Drew got rid of his car.
“All you had to do was say you saw a kitty.” Tony made life tough for Drew the second he walked in the door. I suppose it isn’t right to say Drew should have lied, but you’d think with as much as he leans on Tony he could have gone with it. Things worked out though and it was all thanks to Drew. The prescription drugs thing seems like it could be real in some cases.
I liked the Warsaw conflict between Lewis and Oswald. The resolution that had Oswald reserving the table for Dr. Lewis was a fun way for them to work things out. :)

It's bizarre scheduling such as this that makes it hard to follow shows.
Or, maybe they just held on to it for a one-time "here's the way you want to see Cynthia Watros un-pregnant" episode.

"Baby Face"
The entire concept of the baby "watching" Drew was rather funny and for CGI charcters to sure beat the dancing turkey from a couple of years ago.
I liked it because without getting into the actual physics of the thing I could honestly see them being an actual thought from guys in Drew's position. I don't know about the manifestation though.
"Girlfriend, Interrupted"
I thought this one might have been a repeat, but I think it just should have been the season premiere. Drew and Kellie sort out their feelings? George Carey falls off the roof? Man this was misplaced. It didn't seem like George died though, didn't he call up to Drew that he was fine?

"Straight Eye for the Queer Guy"
Mimi insists that Drew make nice with the gay couple (guest stars Currie Graham as Russell and Sean O'Bryan as Dean) who are parents of little Gus' only friend - and who watch Gus after school for free. But when Drew hits it off with Russell and inadvertently causes the pair to break up -- leaving Mimi with no daycare - he has to go to great lengths to get the couple to make up.

"Still Life with Freeloader"
Drew resorts to desperate measures when lovelorn Mimi finally hooks up with a new guy, Tyler (guest star Todd Stashwick), an out-of-work artist who moves into the house and proceeds to mooch off Drew, big-time.
My thoughts...
"Straight Eye for the Queer Guy"
This was kind of an interesting episode and I liked how they had the gay couple with a kid. It was a nice story for this day and age if you ask me because there are families like that.
Drew really caused some problems for Dean and Russell in this episode as he often seems to do. I find it rather surprising how Gus seems to go out of his way to annoy Drew. I don't spend a lot of time with my younger cousins, but I don't think I could put up with that.
I did like how Gus and Campbell were left hitting him with those hammers at the end of the show.
"Still Life with Freeloader"
I hated that Tyler guy so much I didn't really even like the episode that much. The thought of there being actual people like that disgusts me. I did like how Nick the thug ended up with Mimi though. It was ironic in a way.

 Man, it's tragic how the money-grubbing producers let their shows play out lllloooonnnnngg after they've run thier course to the point where they've outstayed thier welcome and are dragged off the air with the ol' shepherd's hook, kicking and screaming. Familys Matter or Family Matters (otherwise known as the Urkel show) is another prime example.... They should follow Seinfeld example and leave as the champ they came in as.

If Family Matters had followed this example, it would have ended after it's second season.
BTW, is Drew going to have a REAL series finale, or just a regular last episode where nothing is wrapped up?

BTW, is Drew going to have a REAL series finale, or just a regular last episode where nothing is wrapped up?I would be surprised if it didn't get a proper final. ABC regrets committing to these final two seasons, but this is the last one so everyone involved should know that this is it.
