View Full Version : Sandman on JL?

SPOILERS (Does this count?)!

In the recent press release I noticed that Dr. Destiny will be making an appearance sometime during the series' run. As we all know, Destiny's power source is the materioptikon--a ruby that can, as they put it, "bring nightmares to life."

Anyone who read Neil Gaiman's Sandman series knows who that ruby belongs to. Does anyone else think that Morpheus might make an appearance?

By the way, in a 1993 Bruce Timm interview (found in Batman: From Dark Knight to Knightfall; a Hero Special Edition) he revealed that several writers on the show wanted to do an episode with the Sandman, but didn't go through with it. Perhaps they've had a change of heart...

I think there is so much potential in a Sandman appearance in JL. If not in the Dr. Destiny story, I'd love to see "IT" from JLA (current series) 22-23. That was just awesome.

Or, even better, what about Wesley Dodds? It's too bad the JSA won't show up, 'cause there was a chance there, but who knows? Wesley's more in line with a Batman show, though.

Sadly, I don't think that IT can be adapted. Starro the Conqueror was used in Batman Beyond.

But do the animated folks really give a flip about continuity? Batman Beyond's a possible future, sadly (sadly meaning we can't use it as a guide for what can and can't show up).

"IT" is a story that took place in JLA #22-23. Awesome story, I highly recommend it. If you can't find the originals, there's also a TPB with JLA #16-23, plus a few extras. I recommend that as well. Heck, the entire Morrison era was awesome.

"IT" was Grant Morrison's revamp of Starro. Renamed the Star Conqueror, it was about a dozen or so giant green starfish (influence just dragged out of a Lovecraft story, :p) that attacked the Earth and trapped its inhabitants in an unending nightmare. Daniel (the current Dream from the Sandman series) inlisted the League's help in combating it. Great story.

I'd personally like Wesley Dodds to appear with Hourman or Starman, but I guess it won't be happening.

Really more of a copy of Starro since the character still exists in the DC universe.

Well, there is the JGA. We still don't know exactly who the members of that are, so I'll wait until I hear about who the members are before drawing any conclusions, one way or the other.
