Okay, this might seem strange, but I like the Pokemon movies and hate the TV show. In my opinion, the Pokemon movies does away with everything that bugs me about the TV show. For instance, Ashe wants to be the best trainer, right? Therefore, he should go after the strongest Pokemon!
Of course, the show can never allow Ashe to keep a Rare Pokemon, since it'd probably be unfair and Ashe would be near invincible (afterall, what can you do once you've caught the best Pokemon?). And since Pokemon seems intent on reaching Doraemon length (1,000+ eps), we can't let that happen now can we?
Also, another thing that the movies does away with is the penny-pinching budget of the animation in the TV show (that's what happens when you have to crank out an episode week after every week... how else can they reach the 400 or so episodes thus far in Pokemon)? Maybe the character models are still the same, but the backgrounds are a lot better and it actually looks like they had a decent budget for the movies.
So let's recap: movies have better animation, followed by plots that involve the strongest Pokemon instead of the usual worthless Pokemon that Ashe chases after...yep, that's what makes the movies infinitely better than the TV show.
I definitely prefer the movies over the show. However, if the movies continue to be as boring as 4 and 5 have been, I might change my mind.

I admit that I stopped really watching the show around Orange League (I do, however, watch old episodes often). However I do like to keep up with the movies, even if I haven't seen them for some reason :/
The movies originally air in theaters, of course the animation has to be better! But that doesn't mean the animation in the show is bad, I personally think it's been improving, specially since Advance Generation.

The movies are better since they actually give a legitimate attempt at story and characterization, rather than being interchangable and worthless. I gave up on TV Pokemon once it became clear any character developments or lessons learned would be worthless by the next episode, ignored and never to be mentioned again.

the movies are fun and all but they aren't canon so that takes a lot of fun out of them besides most of the legends have shown up in the series to balance stuff out! the last quarter of johto got a budget bump up and for advanced another one so its hard to complain about the tv animation. overall I like the tv series better http://members.aol.com/kimminakochan/chicken.gif

Movie 1 at least is canon. It was built up to during the time Ash got his last badge and trained for the League battles.

The animation's better- it ain't Disney, mind you, but it's superior to the TV show's almost static animation.

yeah but those events were wiped from their minds so like every other movie none of the lessons learned or storys told count which negates a point of Clockstompers....ha! :) http://members.aol.com/kimminakochan/chicken.gif

Poke'mon 2000.. the movie had a bad guy..but for not that long..he got blasted away by Lugia!
The best Poke'mon series is the first one even though Pokemon Advanced has a great theme song:cool: .. And best movie theme song is Pokemon 3

I think the best movie is the TV special Mewtwo Returns, and the best season is 1, but I do think the way they are doing Poke'Mon Advance gives it a lot of potential that could eventually cause it to pass season 1 as my favorite. I thought the movies were always better until they decided to start having Ash seek out those Legendary Poke'Mon in Jhoto League Champions, and they do actually have him seek out some of the stronger Poke'Mon now in the series even though he actually has yet to have caught any of them.

So far Pokemon: Advanced Generation is proving to be as good if not better then season 1. And wait for movie 7 even with just the previews it's proving to be a great movie.

I've gotta admit, I absolutely hate the television series, but found myself entertained by the two movies I saw...

It's pretty obvious what my answer is, but I have to stick up for the main series here. Yes, the movies have spectacular animation, but of course, it's because they're movies. Now, the main series, when it started in 1997, had pretty good animation. People make it sound like the animation was worse, or equal to those Xeroxed cartoons for the seventies. Well, it's not. It's faily decent, and since they switched to digital animation around episode 263 (2002), the animation was taken up a notch. Not just because of the digital colouring or crystal-clear video, but because they became able to save time on inking and painting, they obviously put more time into the black-and-white penciling part of animation, and because of that, the animation is much more fluid. Stock scenes are not as rampant as before -- in fact, in the newest episode that aired in Japan that I just watched, even the Monster Ball animations were newly animated.
I'm gonna be brave here and say that most of the battle scenes in post-2002 Pokémon are equal to the fluid fight scenes in Teen Titans.
An example of the animation throughout the post-2002 episodes of Pokémon. (http://animedna.homestead.com/files/zangoosebreakclaw.gif)

Unless you're talking about 3-D animation, in which case Canada (home to MainFrame and Reboot and Beast Wars and that CGI Spider-Man show) kicks the US' butt every which way as well...and yes, I'm aware of Pixar & Dreamworks, but they only make movies.

Hey, that Zangoose clip ain't half bad.
Now, since this is a "Pokémon" thread, obviously I'm gonna insert allusions to my spinoff fanfiction that about three people have read, but still I'm on topic. The movies were quite a bit more serious than the TV show on the whole, of course, perhaps in an attempt to appeal to a wider audience (though I don't know if it works). Still, they have their problems. Basically, it's the same plot trotted out in each sequel - some huge godlike powerful force (usually some rare Pokémon that was thought to be mere legend for thousands of years) threatens to destroy the world, and Ash is the only one who can save human existence. Throw in good measures of Team Rocket momentarily switching over to the good side and you essentally have the plots for all the movies. This accentuates the TV show, where the same problem runs rampant. I don't think even Animelee can deny that practically every "Pokémon" episode has the same formula (heroes meet up with person with problem, Ash attempts to solve said problem, Team Rocket pops up for a coupla minutes, Pikachu blows 'em away, conflict resumes, conflict is solved, there's probably a battle, an evolution, or a badge thrown in for good measure, "To be continued" but not really...you get the idea. That's what bugged me the most about both the show and the movie (and what I eradicated for my fanfics). Though I will concede that the movie animation is very good compared to the TV show's early animation - I don't think I kept watching long enough to see the switch to digital, so I can't vouch for that, but from what I recall, the first season's animation was pretty lame IMO. At least by late Season 1/early Season 2 it was getting a lot better.

Movie 1 - Mewtwo thinks that God didn't make him, so he wants to play God himself and kill the world. Ash stops him. Team Rocket just sits back and watches.
Movie 2 - A collector is capturing Aritcuno, Zapdos, and Moltres so that he can bring forth Lugia to add to his collection. Ash has to grab the three treasures and calm the weather, which is flooding the world. Team Rocket helps Ash get to the third treasure.
Movie 3 - Spencer Hale is transported to another dimension by Unown, and Molly accidentally releases them, which cause a crystal wave to engluf Greenfield and creates Entei. Ash's mother is kidnapped, so Ash has to go save her. Charizard returns in what is two of the greatest scenes in Pokémon history (Charizard saving Ash & Charizard vs. Entei). Team Rocket stay on the sidelines except to save Ash from falling again.
Movie 4 - Vicious, a Team Rocket agent, is out to capture Celebi. A young boy named Sammy is transported 40 years to Ash's time with a Celebi, and the two have to save Celebi before it destroys the whole forest.
Movie 5 - Ash meets Latios & Latias in a Venice-like town, while two spies try to get their hands on a powerful machine that controls the city. Latios is beaten down badly and Latias has to fight two ancient Pokémon. Team Rocket gets washed away a couple times.
Movie 6 - Jirachi is awakened and befriends Max. Butler, a former member of Team Magma, wants to use Jirachi to re-awaken Groudon, but it goes horribly wrong. Team Rocket gets blasted off and then sits back for the rest of the film.

True, the animation is improved, but TT has some of the best fighting animation ever. (Helped out by great choreography and smoke effects) When Rapid Spin actually becomes rapid and we see a battle that is worthy of topping Charizard vs. Entei, then come back to me.

I don't know if these episodes of Teen Titans have aired in America yet, so: Okay, the average fight, like Robin VS Donny, is just like Pokémon series battles. But the colossal fights, like the Titans VS Terra, well, that's something else, and I would say they're on-par with terms of quality with the Pokémon movie fights.
I'm talking about episodes like "Apprentice," "Mad Mod," the Valentine's Day episode, and the Tournament of Heroes episode.
