For the 50th anniversary of Godzilla, toho studios will be releasing his absolutely final film. Godzilla vs. Destroyah was supposed to kill him off years ago, but they're serious now...pouring their entire budget and capability into their be-all end-all ultimate project, even enlisting some american effects studios (but never fear, the monsters will still be rubber suits)
Like the old Destroy all Monsters, there's gonna be over a dozen kaiju battling eachother and wrecking famous cities around the world. I'm just psyched because the cast will include Hedorah, the smog monster, my favorite film monster EVER! He's only ever been in a single movie...I never dreamed they'de bring him back, much less at the last possible minute.
Apparently godzilla will be made several times more powerful than he's been in any previous incarnation, but will still be taking on a much-stronger new mystery opponent. The title isn't finalized...they're also considering "The Godzilla" (not bad) and "50Dzilla" (errr...bleh?)
They've all been slicked up a bit. The only image released is of Gigan:

Wow, for a character who hasn't been seen in 30 years Gigan looks ****-in. If anyone here has seen the trailer, when they said that "This is the end..." they meant it!.

Gigan - looks great and about time
Rodan - cool
Anguirus - cool
King Ceasar - about time
Minilla - yuck
Kamacuras - why
Kumonga - why
Mothra - come on
Monster X - hope he is cool
Manda - whatever
Ebirah - riiiiiiiiiiiiiight
Hedorah - hope he is better than the original
Also, Monster X looks like he has Manda's tail, Gigan's feet, Anguirus' spikes on his arms, King Ceasar's ears, etc. I wonder if he is a fusion of the monsters.
I am glad Ghidorah is not in it since he went out with a bang in GMK, but they ruined Mothra by bringing it back in GMMG, and now this.

Aww, c'monnn...what's not to love about giant spiders, mantids and lobsters? Sure, those three have always been wimps (they don't even have powers!) but they nicely round out the cast of more outlandish foes, and who knows, perhaps they'lle be more threatening this time.
Better than the original!? Herodah was always perfect! :D
The only thing I'd change about the kaiju lineup would be the addition of Megalon. He, too, has only been in a single film, and it would've been wonderful to see him and gigan reunite for their last hurrah.

I was hoping Mekagojira Kiryu would come back one last time, oh well...

I still would have rather seen Godzilla Vs. Gamera, but this is a damn nice consolation prize. Sounds like it's more or less Destory All Monsters! 2, which makes the fanboy inside me squeal with glee.
That being said... you don't really believe they'll put Godzilla out to pasture, do you? It might take longer than usual this time (15+ years), but believe me, he'll be back. And when he is... there will be hell to pay.

The only reason I don't truly mind Ebirah, Kamacuras, and Kumonga is because all the monsters but Gigan were Earth based monsters in the Showa series.
As for Hedorah, I don't mean the monster himself, but the movie. I find that movie to be horrible, mostly because the music is just plain bad, when there is music playing. If Akira Ifkube had been doing the soundtrack, it would've been much better. Same thing for the first MechaG, Megalon, Ebirah, Son of G, etc, without Akira, they just seem so boring.
Don't get me started on G's Revenge though.

Well, yeah, they said they would be focusing on some "new" franchise from here on out, and you just know it's going to crash and burn. They already tried to do a Mothra series. As much as I like mothra and all big bugs, she just can't do what godzilla can. A big, muscular reptile with a vaguely humanoid body is a more versatile kaiju. Mothra can't punch and kick stuff!
Personally, I think it's a real shame that we've never had the real godzilla in an animated series. We've had Hanna Barbera's ridiculous firebreathing, laser eye-beaming wannabe that was godzilla in name only, and the more recent american series that I actually liked a lot, but it still isn't THE godzilla. Why are the only godzilla cartoons american!?

When Final Wars was first announced they said it would be the last G film for five to ten years. However they're now ignoring that last part, either because they mean it (Heh! when TOHO wants some money they'll bring him back) or they're just hyping the movie up. Either way this is looking like one awesome film. The two kaiju I really hoped would be in it are in (Angilas and Rodan) plus they brought in all these more obscure monsters I never ever thought would return: King Ceasar, Hedorah, Gigan, Ebirah!
Also we'll see the return of the Planet X aliens (Xians) and the super-sub Atragon! Now this is a fan minded flick!
BTW I like that Minya is looking like his old self, because I always liked him and I know how much it'll tee off some of the Minya haters! (hehehe)

I believe Toho means it. I mean they did take a 10 yr break after Terror of MG before they made G84. And then GvsDestoroyah was the final movie until G2K.

I always wanted those cockroach aliens to be recurring villains...ah well. Xians are pretty fun.

What "more recent american series"? There was a second Godzilla cartoon?

The Atragon is back? Wow. That makes me considerably more excited to see this flick. I didn't think we'd ever see that again.

Yup. It took place after the Matthew Broderick Godzilla movie. The Godzilla from that series was the sole surviving egg seen at the end of the American Godzilla flick. I never watched it. Looked pretty mediocre, though.
I always thought it was a shame that Godzilla never got a good comic series. Dark Horse and Marvel both tried, but it didn't really work out either time. I'm sure there are Godzilla mangas that have been published in Japan... I wonder how they are?

Well, like I already said, I thought it was really good. The humans were written pretty well, there were many interesting subplots, and every episode was stuffed to the brim with monster action. Godzilla's opponents were designed by Fil Barlow (The Real Ghostbusters, Extreme Ghostbusters, MIB the series) and were just as inventive and diverse as any real japanese Kaiju. They couldn't get the rights to any Toho monsters or characters, but there were many nods to the films...including a big "monster island" story arc, complete with aliens and mind control.

Destroyah was supposed to be the last Godzilla movie period. If it hadn't been for GINO, Toho wouldn't have started the Shinsei series.Actually that isn't true. They had no intention of keeping Godzilla dead. Their original plans were to make new movies starting with the 50th anniversary, but because of GINO, they went earlier.
That Gigan looks niiiiice. :)
I'm not sure about all the other retread monsters, but there must always be scrub monsters like Ebirah, I guess.
In any case, it's gotta be better than some of the later movies (except GMK)
The inner nerd in me feels stupid, I can hardly remember all the monsters Deadly Messiah listed. =[

i bet in 25 years they'll bring him back.
and 50 years.
and so on..
and so on..
heck, when godzillas actually do evolve, they'll probably invent the camera and make thier rampages on the ruins of human civilization, a reality show..
biggest in the world.
the biggest thing.. ever,
and never to be forgotten.
