As many of us have heard JMS's upcoming arc 'Sins Past' is promised to "shake Spider-Man to his core" Today (Sunday) the real cover to Amazing Spider-man #511 was revieled and will of course be causing some discussion, theories, rantings and ravings. If you want to be totally surprised to this arc (Which might be hard to avoid hearing about this online) then leave this thread right now. Cause past this point the cover will be shown and dicussion of what has been told about the arc will begin. So if you don't want ANYTHING spoiled, turn back now.

After revieling the cover Quesada commented "It could be not who you think it is, or it could be exactly who you think it is.” Not only was that revealed but it was also revealed that the arc will introduce two new characters with ties to Spidey's past. I think it's a pretty good guess that they are the two standing over Spidey on the cover of Amazing Spiderman #510 (http://www.newsarama.com/Marvel/WWPhily04/Spidey3.jpg). It has also been said that some of the story from 'Sins Past' will spill over into Spectacular Spiderman and the following comment was said "Captain America guest-stars and will be introducing a big new villain. And we'll be putting Spidey through some creepy physical changes." said Editor Tom Brevoort. I think it's also safe to say that this "creepy physical changes" are shown here on the cover to (don't click link if you don't want it spoiled) Spectacular Spiderman (http://www.newsarama.com/Marvel/WWPhily04/Spidey4.jpg).

Now for the comments, discussion, ranting and theories....

If that really is Gwen or I read the word "clone" I'm going to shoot myself. I doubt that is Gwen, they wouldn't put it on the cover if it was. But if they really are bringing her back than in my mind that is eqaul to bringing Uncle Ben back.

Well as long as she hasn't been cloned or anything fine. I'm guessing JMS will keep on with his magical tone in the Spider-Man books and that have something to do with this Gwen look-a-like. Whether it be the real thing, or someone who looks like her.

Damn, Spidey's eyes are big in that pic. Anyways...

Can't bring myself to care. If Marvel is expecting a sales boom from this sort of thing, I can't really see their logic. The only people who would be driven enough by the idea of a Gwen resurrection to buy Spidey titles are probably buying them already. I'm not sure the shock tactics are really gonna help anybody.

I personally and I think many other readers hope that this isn't the REAL Gwen Stacy, if it's her at all in anyway. The death of Gwen Stacy was a event and loss that has given both Peter Parker and Spider-man great characterization and dimension. It's a big reason, Spiderman is a tragic character. Even just bring her back to let Peter reviel himself as Spiderman and say his goodbye and let her know how much he loved her and killing her off once again would ruin the meaning of her loss. It's because she was loss so suddenly and without her getting to know how much Peter really loved her and his "other life" and not getting to say goodbye that it makes it such a big event and tragedy.

With that said, I just hope it is a girl or maybe even MJ dressed up and given contacts to look like Gwen or something like that, heck it ending up being Chameleon would be fine, just don't bring her back. It's a bad, bad move by Marvel cause if they bring her back for good people will be outraged and if they just bring her back to kill her off again people will be outraged. They might even loose a good amount of long-time readers with such a event.

All in all the cover and talk has done exactly what Marvel intended it to do and that is hype up the arc/title.

If JMS was bringing back Gwen Stacy, I can see the whole Spider-Man comunity being up in arms and very upset about it. Her death was a milestone, as tragic as it was, in the Marvel Universe. It would be devastating. But like Cogliostro said, the image is really hyping up that issue, so no doubt sales will see a ncie increase solely based on people wanting to know what is going to happen in that issue. I'm a regular reader of all the Spidey books so I'll be checking that out anyways.

This is the very same Spider-Man book that JMS is writing. Gwen doesn't technically have to be brought back from the dead for her to appear in the book.

Well, permanently at least.

Howdy,

The Gwen Stacy Clone is still bouncing around somewhere in the Marvel Universe (http://www.spiderfan.org/characters/gwen_stacy_clone.html).

At best, it'll be a nice way to tie up that loose end.

At worst...well..."creatively bankrupt" would be a nice way to phrase it.
