Okay, felt I had to break this discussion off into a different thread.

PICTURE TIME! Roughly 240k filesize alltogether. I'd say I compressed the images rather well, considering I see lots of JPGs and GIFs embedded on this site by people that individually are bigger than 200k each.

Sgt. Frog is the most overlooked anime this season, probably because it
slipped under the radar. It's a Sunrise comedy, which is something you
don't see that often anymore. The OP for this show is a bizarre marching
tune that's hyper-sugary-sweet.

http://www.highscoreonline.com/kero2.jpg

The only frog you see off the bat is Kero himself.
The green frog. The rest begin to swarm in in the
upcoming episodes.

http://www.highscoreonline.com/kero3.jpg

Yes, that's right. Become zombies to Kero's commercial
viability and merchandising offshoots!

http://www.highscoreonline.com/kero4.jpg

It's Sunrise. You have to expect at least one Gundam
reference. I'm sure it's the only one, though...

http://www.highscoreonline.com/kero5.jpg

...oh dear.

The premise of Sgt. Frog is that Kero has come to Earth on reconaissance before the impending frog alien invasion (gee, this sounds familiar). But he is discovered quickly by Natsumi and Hinata who spots him hiding behind wallpaper. He is captured, and his deadly weapon, the Kero Ball, is taken away from him. The mother, usually hateful of animals, finds Kero precious and adopts it into the family.

http://www.highscoreonline.com/kero10.jpg

You see, she is a Shonen manga editor. That's what I
said. And she seems to have perverse sexual fantasies
about aliens and their habitats. ...yeaaaah.

http://www.highscoreonline.com/kero14.jpg

Hinata befriends Kero because he's always wanted to
see the paranormal.

http://www.highscoreonline.com/kero9.jpghttp://www.highscoreonline.com/kero9b.jpg

As you can see, sound effect/caption text plays a big role in the show,
and in modern anime in general (ex: Azumanga, Sensei no Ojikan, etc).
Here its used pretty cleverly though, and reacts to cartoon physics,
which is amusing.

The show is 11 minute stories. So it never gets dull, nor is there
plot filler. Woo!

http://www.highscoreonline.com/kero11.jpghttp://www.highscoreonline.com/kero12.jpg

Kero's pad. He's probably listening to the Green Album.
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!

So the whole thing is just cute cute cute. Like Invader Zim if it were not done by a snooty Goth. So far the show is unlicensed, but seeing as it references Gundam a wee bit much and is Sunrise, I'm sure Bandai is on top of it. Even though noone else seems to be. So watch out for it!

Oh, thank you so much for the screen caps. I've been looking for sceenes for some time now, with no luck. Plus I wont be getting my copies of the aired episodes for a long while ( I have a friend in Japan recording them for me ).

I've been interesting in this series since it was first serialized back in what... 2000 ? -lol, must be getting old, can't remeber. So I am very much looking forward to finally seeing the Anime, and the English translated Manga is great and has filled me in on the plot.

I agree, this show seems to be falling through the cracks... which is a shame, because it looks so good, and is shapeing up to be a classic.

It actually isn't. The Gundam references, even in the first episode, give the show a whole other layer. But not noticing them doesn't detract from the entertainment value. At least not yet.

I had flipped through the manga a few weeks back, not knowing what to make of it. It actually seems kinda interesting...

Is it heavy on perverted humor or fan service? I would like to avoid that if at all possible.

Not really.

There are a few perverted things scattered through it, but it's mostly just slapstick stuff. It's a great show. :)

I was being sarcastic. The final shot of the OP alone is a reference to almost every Gundam title. Thus the "oh dear."

Two page spread of Sgt. Frog, Newtype had two months ago featured a Gundam action figure.

And, now that I re-read it, I shouldn't have only skimmed the last paragraph in your review. Whoops. Next time, I'll remember to leave the sarcasm meter on.

I'm surprised that sunrise has made such a wacky show.

But then again this explains the Gundam references.

Sounds like a wacky show and I like the commentary you put with the pics. :anime:

Alright... What the hell was I watching? Because it's weird, and although I was not laughing all over the floor and driven to fits of euphoria, I find myself amused and wanting more.

A opening theme that sounds like a national anthem for their kind and an ending that deals with having an afro... Keeping my eye right on this one along with the one with girlfriend for a right hand.

This is a very enjoyable show. Not laugh out loud funny at the moment but I like the characters, the animation, and the music (especially the ED).

I don't care if it lacks action or if the episode format may make it less workable... From now on this show is going to be added to most if not all my Toonami fantasy schedules. It would be a great way to kick off the block (somewhat like how Duel Masters does it now).

I just saw the first episode of this show the other day (since someone finally noticed and subbed it), and I find it to be quite enjoyable. I wasn't rolling on the floor, but it certainly shows promise.

If I hadn't already checked, I would have sworn it was by the same person/people who did Jungle Guu. The humor style is somewhat similar, and they both seem to have an obsession with afros.

As far as the Gundam references go, accdoring to the manga...
The only reason why Kero just doesn't blow up the Earth is because if he did, he couldn't get any more Gundam models.
And since I haven't seen the show yet, it doesn't hurt asking:

Does Fuyuki describe his mother as Eva Unit-01 like he does in the manga? I'm guessing no.

Dropped and watched the first episode. Definetely funny, definetely cute. It's almost kind of struck me as what would happen if a Japanese studio did a Cartoon Cartoon. Very fast paced, very joke driven, very offbeat. Definetely a breath of fresh air this season, right down the OP and ED (and that ED is awesome, even though it's a bit of rip of Zapp and Roger.)

I think I'll be picking up the manga today if it's got the same humor.

Bought the manga. Just as funny as the show in someways, but having some of those scenes animated really bams the hilarity up a notch.

I was gonna pick some up at Suncoast today with a cupon in hand but their only copy was in terrible condition so I opted to wait. Volume 2 is suppose to be out now but they only had Volume 1. Suncoast needs to treat their mangas better most of them have some nasty curls... It really makes me want to take my business elsewhere... Walden Books treats theirs properly. They always look crisp and untainted. Sadly my cupon wasn't for them... but they have deals every now and then.

I'm gonna pick up this manga some how though. I really like what I've seen so far and I LOVE Frogs (and Turtles as you all know).
