I just read the screenplay for "Seven.;" A film I knew little about and had never seen.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD>

I'm glad I didn't see it before either L.A. Confidential or American Beauty, thereby keeping it from hampering my enjoyment of those characters.

END SPOILERS>

This was one F'ed up story. One word; DISTURBING. I, for one, could not find anything worth-while to take away from the experience. I hate, hate, hated it. Hated it with passion.

I did admire the stories willingness to go against cliche' plot-lines. I did not expect what happened next, or after that, or after that, etc. My expectations were all wrong. But, admiring something on a technical level is one thing. Enjoying it is another.

What was the point of this film? Was there a point? Is this just stylish shock cinema? Help me deal with this, please.

I liked the film when I saw it a year or two ago.

The point of the film? Probably the same reason all other movies are made, to entertain us and/or give us a look into the ways of a killer. Yeah it's disturbing but then a lot of movies are and some of them aren't bad. Can't think of one off the top of my head though.

Sorry you didn't like the film. Well, the screenplay at least. I thought the film was excellent. You might try watching it. Could be different than the script.

And the point? rD said it best: to entertain. And it did. At least, it entertained me. But hey, sometimes I like being disturbed. I mean, I really enjoyed "Requiem for a Dream" and "Cube". (Two movies that will REALLY disturb you, much more that Se7en)

The film was very well-crafted and, aside from perhaps unsympathetic characters, I'm glad I saw it. But I'll probably never watch it again. *shudder*
