I'm helping my father prepare his old record collection for auction... while I was taking inventory, I found a vintage 78rpm record with Mel Blanc singing Toot Toot Tootsie and I've Got A Bunch of Lovely Coconuts.
Does anyone know if this is a rare item or know any information on it? I'm afraid to even play it since it's over 50 years old.

It's an excellent pair of Blanc recordings, but alas not terribly rare. Mel had a pretty long term contract with Capitol and when he was wasn't recording Looney Tunes records written by Foster and Pierce (and a couple with Maltese) he was recording out-and-and comedy songs. "Toot Toot..." is great since it features Mel doing a fine and totally over the top impression of Al Jolson. My memory of it right now is that it dates from the very end of the Forties (coinciding with the Jolson film biographies). It it's in mint shape you can try auctioning for whatever sounds reasonable, may bring ten to twenty U.S. dollahs... (maybe even more depending on your selling job and who's-a-looking!!).
Good luck!!

Come to think of it, I've got Mel's recording of the Woody Woodpecker theme (with the Sportsmen) and "Daffy Duck Flies South" somewhere in the garage.
