Gargoyles (1972 (http://www.imdb.com/Sections/Years/1972)) (TV):
After receiving word about a mysterious carcass/skeleton unearthed in the Arizona desert, a father and his daughter decide to remove it from the burial grounds for further study. Once they do so, they, as well as the town, are besieged by a colony of gargoyles living in some nearby caverns. This film is actually fairly good by 70's standards. Stan Winston did the make-up, and the Gargoyles have characterizations. This film also has a Star Trek connection -- Bernie Casey, who appeared on DS9, plays the leader of the gargoyles. Believe it or not, this tele-film was intended as a series pilot. This movie is available on VHS and DVD.
Curse of the Talisman (2001 (http://www.imdb.com/Sections/Years/2001)) (TV):
The Internet Movie Database doesn't have a summary of this one, but I saw it on SCI FI. It's a truly schlocky horror flick in which the gargoyles have minimal characterization, and are just there to destroy things.
-------------------------------------------------
I recommend that fans of Disney's Gargoyles track down both films, and watch them, because it'll give you a good sense of what's been done in live-action to date and inspire you to keep pushing for Disney to do a live-action Gargoyles film at some point. As much as I enjoy the 1972 film for its earnestness and camp value, it and Curse of the Talisman shouldn't be the last words on gargoyles in live-action.
