Well, rumor had it that Speilberg would be making changes to E.T., like some enw CGI effects, dialogue looping, etc. One change was chaning the FBI's guns into walkie-talkie's. Here's a screengrab (from www.dvdsewer.com) comparison for your judgement.

I think it's a bunch of crap. Though I've never liked the movie ever, it's sucks when I director screws with their original work. Like Han Solo shooting Greedo. I don't know if this is under Spielberg's own free will or if he is caving to requests by Universal. And it's all because of the times we live in today. That's no excuse to change somethings in what is considered a classic. If Spielberg wanted them to have walkie-talkies, then he would have orginally shot the scene with them. Who knows, maybe he just changed his mind like Lucas. I'm just blabbing on now...

why does the top one look clearer..hmm

ah well, I've never honestly seen this movie, so I'm ok w/ the edits.I'll probably see it in the theater.. :)

Still, I would like it that when they release it on DVD, that it contains both versions of the film..

Originally Han just shot Greedo under the table. In the reissue, Greedo shoots first and misses, and Han's shot is "return fire."

I think it's a bunch of crap. Are we gonna have to change the rest of our lives like this because of what happened? That's admitting personal defeat the way I see it.

HAHA, now I get it! In a Fox Trot comic, Jason redid SW and, and draws himself in it, and in one scene han solo shoots greedo, the first way, and Jason gos "Hasta la vista greedo"

I didn't see the big deal behind that han/greedo thing.

I remember reading he did it for the Greedo fans, as they were pissed that Han shot greedo w/o letting greedo get a shot in first...honestly..star wars fans can be so fussy at times (yes, I'm a die-hard fan myself, but, I think we can get too whiney.. :p )

Yeah, like we should talk.

As for the changes to E.T., all I have to say is "Why, Spielberg, Why?"

Han shot first because that's his character. He isn't one who waited for things to happen, he made them happen. And it also puts him on the offensive rather than the defensive, and that does make a difference. And it does matter who shoots first in ANY situation. It's not a small thing by any stretch of the imagination.

I really don't see the point of editing ET, except to make more moola....

I think this comes under the heading of: "I did because I had the technology to do it." He's playing with his digital toys.

I agree with Maxie. He's got all that technology so now he can play with it alittle and do as he likes. But I heardf that at leats one change was due to Sept. 11th. On eof the characters says "terrorist" and that has been changed to Monster I think.

Sigh. You know, after we entered World War II, I don't remember Hollywood suddenly deciding that the word "Nazi" had to be stricken from every film.

Good news on this front: Cameron Crowe insisted that shots of the WTC NOT be cut out of his upcoming "Vanilla Sky."

I'm glad Caeron Crowe has decide don that. He's been a favorite director of mine and I stand by his decision. Hell, I hear SONY is consideirng making the original Spidey Teaser an easter egg on the DVD -- that's already in production!! (Pretty early...)

I'm the type to look for the bright side always, so I must say it's great to hear something like that Caeron Crowe deal. But I'm very disapointed in what's being done to ET. It's just useless.

I'm glad the technology is available and useable and everything, but couldn't we just take some home movies and play with those instead??
