View Full Version : Guys, I've been thinking about this Popeye delay

I don't think political correctness has anything to do with the "I'm Popeye" delay. It would be a surprise if it did. However, I think there's something more to this.

I wonder if KFS or Paramount may be holding up the deal. After all, KFS owns the rights to the character Popeye, and is holding up the DVD rights. Also, since the logos are indeed Paramount logos, maybe the folks at Paramount are holding up the deal.

However, CN has shown Popeye cartoons with Paramount logos for years, so I think any legal issues involving Paramount and KFS would have reared up by now.

So, the logical reason for the delay in premiering "I'm Popeye" must be logistics. We are talking about 132 black and white cartoons, all needing to be "restored". So maybe they're running behind.

I doubt that. Remember that we were told that I'm Popeye! would be formatted half-hour episodes (like Toonheads and The Bob Clampett Show are), and not just a random mix of cartoons like Acme Hour or Bugs and Daffy. I also believe it was said the show was to have 13 episodes to start with.

Also keep in mind that Paramount Pictures has nothing to do with the B&W Popeye cartoons since Time Warner owns the films, and King Features owns the character. But something really doesn't sound right here, and who do you put the finger on?

We'll just have to sit back and see what happens. People are pointing fingers but we don't have anything more than speculation. I believe that this show will air eventually. For right now let's just sit still and not get too worked up until we see what happens.

Time-out, guys. Delays like this frequently happen at broadcast networks all the time. This is not unusual at all and, frankly, wasn't that big a delay anyway. Maybe they decided to change which episode to show first. Just be glad it's coming on at all. No grassy knolls here guys. Things happen.

I've been told that before. Today, I worked on my site, as far as doing the notes from Georgia. If you will look at my site, you'll find out that I had to wait a while, before Brittany and I achieved our goal. But we did it.

As long as the mountain and stars appear in B&W with "The Sailor's Hornpipe" playing in the background, I'll be happy.

Could be, I know King Features delays their comics on their website so they can cash in on newspapers. They also own a lot of LNB&W characters: Captain and the Kids, Popeye, and Betty Boop. Not to mention the teenager in my avatar!:D
