I saw the Geneon Japan DVD of Oh! Super Milk-chan DVD from a friend of mine from Canada. I'd like to draw comparisons to classic Ren and Stimpy, FLCL, Di Gi Charat and more, but upon further recollection...

This sucker ain't NOTHING like you've ever seen before! And I DO mean that in a good way!!! :D

Now...this was SUPPOSED to be released stateside back in 2003. Then ADV postponed it's release and nothing has been said about it since. I saw a blurb (albeit a tiny one) on the Anime On DVD site that put it's release date is 2012.

That's right. Two-thousand-friggin'-twelve.

Now I'm sorry, I'm a patient guy, but THERE IS NO FREAKIN' GOOD REASON TO HOLD UP A RELEASE THIS ANTICIPATED FOR THAT LONG!

But then, it might also be a snag on the part of the Japanese licensor too. I don't know and ADV ain't tellin'.

Anyone heard else heard anything about when Milk-chan is supposed to get here?

2012?? I thinks they were joking or something. With the site up now, I'm guessing this year, if not next.

Man, it looks freaking interesting

Man, it looks freaking interestingUh, you guys are as nutts as Milk-chan and her crew :anime: The release date for volume one is July 7, 2004.

To find this data, click on the Blue "info" button on the left side pannel. Then click on the "info" text link in the little TV screen. Tada, release date. Unless that info is bogus.

Super Milk-chan is craziness like Bobobobobobobobo... bobo.
It's about time ADV got around to it. I've forgotten about it for a couple of years.

Its Rather simple.

It had a date.

and then it got delayed indefinitly..

so the year 2012 is used as a "We don't know when the hell its coming" date.

This is a teaser trailer in the truest sense of the word- I know almost NOTHING about the show from the short preview I saw, so I'll have to see more footage before I'm inclined to see it. P.S.: The large size QuickTime file was huge! It was over 50 MB! That's kind of excessive for a >1 minute trailer, doncha think??

I just watched the trailer, and I didn't find it funny.

And for those who think I don't have a sense of humor, I am an avid Zim fan (I love all of JV's works), as well as Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Family Guy, South Park, Sea Lab 2021, Chapelle's Show, Titus, to name a few..
I just don't see what was funny about it. I don't know, maybe I haven't seen enough of it to get a full idea of what it's like, but it doesn't seem interesting to me. It's interesting art wise, though.

I don't want to judge the show unfairly, but I have nothing to work with..

Classic Ren and Stimpy (before the whole Spumco/Nickelodeon/Games Inc. slugfest turned the show into a bad parody of itself) with a sci-fi twist. (Think Captain Hoek and Cadet Stimpy meets the Powerpuff Girls). That's the closest thing I can think of, so guys, don't flame me if you think I'm off-base. It's hard to describe and compare something so whacked-out as this to anything existing currently or before. If even classic R & S-type (weird/gross) humor isn't your thing, then Milk-chan may not be either.

On another note, since people are so used to see me defending English dub casts on this forum so often, this statement may come as a surprise, but...I'm more than likely gonna be viewing this subbed, even when it DOES get released stateside.

Not any slam on the ADV dub actors, but after seeing it in it's original form, I just can't imagine any English actress, no matter how good she is, making me howl as much as the Japanese actress did who played Milk. But I could be wrong.

Here's Dave Baranyi's original review/synopsis of the first episode several years ago on usenet.

"Super Milk-chan" is a Studio Pierrot/Pioneer/Wowow production. When I first
saw some ads for it I dismissed it as just another "little kids" show with
futuristic clothing for the characters. But right from the opening I saw
that I was VERY wrong. I am still grappling with how to describe the show -
my best effort at this point is to say it is a very twisted take on the
"Jetsons" crossed with "South Park" and "Mad TV" but done by someone on very
bad drugs!!! This is definitely not a show to watch while drinking too many
Corona's ( or whatever your favorite brew happens to be ).

What is the show about? Well, that's probably not an applicable question,
but lets just say that it is about a little girl in a Jetsons outfit who
likes milk, a President who looks like an escapee from "Ren and Stimpy", and
sundry other characters who seem to have escaped from various Salvador Dali
paintings. There are tons of non-stop sight gags, bad puns and maddenly
repetitive telephone routines which I am guessing are based upon classic
Japanese stage comedy routines.

What was this episode about? Well, all of the above comments apply, with the
additional bit that the President had a nightmare about being beheaded by a
bunch of KKK-types and when he woke up he pushed the "red button" and
launched a missile. He then called Milk-chan and tried to get her to help,
but his conversation with her turned into an exercise in existential Dadaism
until the missile came back to go through the President's building. But
don't assume from this description that there is really any sort of coherent
plot.

I'm still shaking my head at the whole thing, and I suspect that a lot of
people won't like it at all, but I'm already "in love" with "Super
Milk-chan". BTW - the animation in this show runs the entire gamete, from
very good and intricate scenes with lots of motion to almost primitive
60's-style sets, with lots of totally irrelevant film clips added in.
