Have faith in WB...they released a DVD in Japan that had new transfers (Am I right?)
IMO, I'd rather wait until 2005 just so that WB can release DVD's with restored pre-1948 titles (Not to mention post-1948's that need restoration.)
I'm one of those people who get kind of angry when buying a DVD and finding out that a better version is being planned...
It's worth the wait just because of the chance that cartoons edited before release (Big Snooze, Heckling Hare, etc) could be finally seen as the directors intended it to be.
I doubt anyone would want to see the undubbed AAP print of Bone Sweet Bone on DVD...complete with splices and film breaks...
WB is just preparing Citizen Kane for DVD release...because they wanted to have a really good print for the disc...WB has some of the best DVD transfers on the market (North By Northwest is a great example...as is Ben-Hur)
I may be out of college by the time the first DVD comes out (I'm a Junior now), but it's well worth the wait to see sparkling new transfers from the original negatives....perhaps even the long lost ending to The Heckling Hare!
Didn't they edit the negatives when they made those pre-release edits (like in Heckling Hare)? Would they still exist?
I wish there were some way to actually find out if they are actually restoring the cartoons.

odds are, that if they never wanted them printed, they would not have preserved the negatives.

p.s. - what kind of material was used for the backing of the negatives?

It's been my experience that DVDs we wait and wait for are always worth the wait. It won't be any different with the Loony Tunes cartoons. The people in charge of these DVDs know how faithful us fans are and how particular we are to have good quality transfers. If they need a couple more years to deliver that product, so be it. I'd rather wait than spend money on an inferior product now and have to spend more money on the definitive product later.
