"Crosby, Columbo, and Vallee" in sepiatone? Must be a terminal case of "NTA Red".

Given, of course, that after this year's "June Bugs" fiasco, the fact of its surfacing anywhere outside of an invitation-only film festival automatically gets it two extra stars, absent that, I'd say this print was surprisingly clean, free of splices & other wear, and brighter to the jaded eye than many (officially) PD prints. (OK, so I'm a bit behind on the deeper celluloid jargon ...)

I stand corrected, then, but I've never seen that one in color. Someday ...

No, actually, "Crosby, Columbo, and Vallee" was never in color (other than the 1992 Turner redrawn colorized version).

Man you're lucky! "All This and Rabbit Stew" AND Bosko in the same show!

I just remembered that I got an e-mail over the weekend saying that this same Channel 68 had aired "Jungle Jitters" on Saturday morning!

This cartoon show might be the best place to catch the "Censored 11", and I heard the the film for "ATARS" was a very good film print...

I have WHSE, but my cable company's program guide doesn't list these shows. Can someone tell me what time they air?

"Cartoon Junction," the half-hour that's creating all this stir, airs Monday through Friday at 5:00 pm, and Saturday at 9:00 am
and 10:00 am.

Its companion show, "Cartoon Arcade" (again, focusing on late '70s/early '80s made-for-TV toons, which I'm told have their own champions somewhere as well) turns up Mon.-Fri. at 4:30 pm, as well as Sat. at 8:30 am and 9:30 am.

So there's a handy guide to post wherever you prefer, and happy viewing!

It is channel 68 in the NYC area, so if you are close enough in NJ to that area you might be able to watch it bigtoonfan!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but, as I understand it, the ban of those cartoons applies only to Cartoon Network. It is in no way a broadcast ban. So any PD cartoons can be run by a station able to access a print. It's a self-imposed ban initiated by Ted Turner (a well-known paragon of tolerance. Just ask Catholics.)

My understanding is, the Censored 11 were chosen when the LTs were first made available for airing on TV. Those 11 were even too un-PC back then and so were never included in any packages for any of the networks or independent stations. So the only way that any of those would ever air would be through the use of PD prints which WHSE has done. Yay WHSE! :D

The bans and edits on the pre-1948 color WB cartoons, including the "Censored 11" were always up to the individual stations. "Jongle Jitters" was shown by KTVT Ch. 11 in Dallas-Fort Worth as late as the mid-1980s. While, AFAIK, when WNEW in New York at the AAP Warners package between 1957 and 1985, the never aired any of the Censored 11.

Outside of some rogue public access cablecast (where "Tokio Jokio" did show up in the late 1970s), this week is probably the first time "All This And Rabbit Stew" ever was shown in the New York area, but odds are other cities did show thre cartoon in the late 1950s and 1960s, when censorship bans in most of the country were far less common. The standards CN uses are based on the strictest areas of the U.S. -- basically places like New York, Washington and Los Angeles, where criticism would be most likely to end up on TV and in the newspapers and get AOL Time-Warner people in trouble. Unfortunately, Ch. 68 will face the same problems if their raitings ever go up, so tape `em while you can...

I get WHSE in Elizabeth, New Jersey. The print of ATARS looked the same as a one I have on a PD tape. But what the hell, at least they showed it! And Bosko! Good old Bosko! I haven't seen him on TV since they used to show his cartoons on Nickeledeon. I was only 4 back then!

Nelson and Everybody,

See my next thread in progress, "It Ain't Over 'Til...", for a little grass roots-type exercise we can still perform that just might help get our message across to somebody of influence in the WHSE-68 management universe. But only if a lot of us give it a shot!

Man, it's taken this long for anyone to find the wonderful world of independent broadcasting!? Where I live, down in ol' Virginny, there's a station called WTMW. It has "Cartoon Junction" and I've been trying to hunt down ATARS for months! (Thankfully, I know their format and when I saw "Crosby, Columbo and Vallee" as the first cartoon, I popped a tape in and hit the record button as soon as the commercial ended!)

So this programming isn't unique to WHSE? Hmm...Methinks I'll try to check schedules for my local independent stations soon.

Actually, the deeper root of the indie problem Out Here in NYC is that over the course of the last 15 years, we've actually
lost three such glorious stations to the Fox, WB, and UPN networks, respectively. And between them ... well ... you name the cartoon studio, and its backlog was once in the library of one of those channels, guaranteed. No edits, no time compression, no limits. And no cable mega-networks then, either. So always treasure and support your local indie!
