806: Goobacks from the Future

(Previously (yesterday) known as Wetbacks From The Future)

The future crosses the border into South Park in the next all-new episode premiering Wednesday, at 10:00pm.

Humans from the year 4035 are arriving in droves in South Park! Everything gets a little too crowded when people from the future arrive through a recently discovered time portal. When the boys try to earn some extra money, the time immigrants, who are willing to do the same work for next to nothing, take their jobs.

First Run Comes to an End
This is the last episode of the first half of Season Eight. The second half of the season is due to begin airing in October.

The end of this part of season 8, also for those of you who don't know...

No great adventure for Lemmiwinks...for now.
As you all know, we were supposed to be having Lemmiwinks return this season, unfortunately I am the bringer of bad news to you all. Lemmiwinks will not be airing the first half of the eighth season, or the second half. I can't really tell you why because, well, I'm really not sure, hell, I'm not even sure if this news I'm giving you will stay the same! Just know that Lemmiwinks will return... eventually. Please remember, that the "Tragedy in Hawaii" disclaimer at the beginning of the A.W.E.S.O.M - O was just a joke, and had nothing to do with the release of Lemmiwinks!

Well first off, over 30 hours before the episode premieres is kind of way too early to start posting a talkback thread.

It's a very good one though. Too bad about Lemmiwinks. Guess there won't be any Lord Of The Ring Cartoon Inspired Adventures for our favorite rodent friend. Oh well. At least there won't a be a gay man's ass either.

Yeah.. WAY too early for a talkback..

I find it interesting that they changed the title of the episode.. but I could care less either way, it's the show that counts.

Also I don't see the big deal about Lemmiwinks.. oh well, it won't show.. It'll be as if the episode.. doesn't exist.. which.. I shall now think of it as.. there.

In pressing news today, Movieguy is upset because men from the boards (Sigman and wrenchien) have been clamoring on and making a talkback that he already made in order to get a little recongintion. Since these talkbacks are more recent and cheaper, people flock to them and offer them to do more talkbacks.

Movieguy: Tehy tok my jerb!

See how the actual episode can be used to deal with real live events?;)

that's pretty good special effects.. pretty good. shame he walked into a car.

looks like cartman's getting honest labor, and a nosebleed, in the same thing. the cnn sidebar parody was a nice, authentic touch to the 'cnn' reports. lol, back to the future ref, heh. poor 285 sign! it's getting a beating. i hope its friend in tennessee i-240 is doing well.

looks like the dow is still going up.. nas is still going down.

there's that guy.. that used to be with uncle jimbo, right?!? nasty crowd he's in.

ha, now a caution sign. bet that's going to get a bit of a beating, too.

open wide, big door from the future!!!! i bet someone's in the 7th millenia's got to notice the vanishing by now.

sounds like upheaval , that lady's name.

hippies. i remember living during that era. and having a lot of diapers changed, too. sounds like rectum, nearly dam killed him

aging liberal.. that's really his name!?!?

if there's no future...

aww, how nice, a jacked up hovercar. MMM.

reminds me of 'alien nation' a bit with all the strange humans. a bit. HEH.

those ideas aren't getting off the ground are they, those redneck's ideas? remind me in the future to go to memphis and inject some texan hospitality.. that might ensure less.. ehm.

nice act of mass censorship!! mmm, feel the love. i wonder exactly what WOULD have caused the future to happen!?!?

ohh my goodness. all that ...pile of humanity!!??!

what a strange ending... i'm just.. speechless.

oh well, at least my future may yet be a bit brighter.. momentarily.

anyone want to see graceland someday?

Modestly funny, but as satire or social commentary, inadequate and shoddy.

Overall, eh, upgraded to meh for the O'Reilly Factor spoof.

My least favorite episode of this first half. Although it had a good concept, I did not think it really worked. Sure it had a few laughs and all that, but all in all it wasn't really that good. Seems like a rather weak way to end the first half.

So anyway...

1. The Jeffersons
2. Awesom-O
3. Good Times with Weapons
4. You got f'ed in the A.
5. Up the Down Steroid
6. Passion of the Jew
7. Goobacks

7. GoobacksI agree with your list, but I would switch "You got F'ed in the A" with "Up the Down Steroid."

The "Goobacks" was decent, but not the best way to end this half of the season. The gay pile was funny though and the highlight was of course the rednecks mumbleing "They took our Jobs" other then that it was a downgrade from an otherwise excelent start for Season 8.

I haven't seen anything that wierd since the SL2021 episode "Uh-oh!"I think the Jeffersons was funnier but so far the highlight of this season was "the passion of the jew"

but shogun.. sir.. you will note..

that the 'uh oh' song made the whole thing consistently funny. this .. south park episode.. was a lot more seriously written than so many episodes.

which wasn't the best of things.

if they were writing it akin to some of william street's episodes where the ending wouldn't really be in continuity, or the episode itself.. maybe it could make more sense. or could have made more sense, in a temporal sense.

I didn't get too many laughs out of this one. The "Teh Tuk Muh Jerb" was good for some giggles and the mountain of.........well, men was good shocking fun, but over-all, the ep was kinda weak.

i will say this much..

it's probably a little better an episode than the 'death camp of tolerance' one.

but not by much.

and 'death camp of tolerance' is perhaps the worst ever.

some things i've noted (perhaps maybe they were making ribs at adult swim somehow in this episode, or turner networks, or atlanta ... though i could be wrong)...

0. 4 + 0 + 3 = 7. and then it's followed by 5. 75 is an atlantan interstate.

1. 285 is a interstate loop in atlanta, georgia. where adult swim is produced. not in denver. denver has 225 and 270 interstates...

2. the way they ended the episode was a lot like adult swim ends some of its episodes, like 'aqua teen hunger force'.. with a ending in which the characters think they're getting out of peril.. but find themselves ironically in worse predicaments.. and get into ones so disturbing that only way to make it sane is to just not have it in 'continuity'....

3. the cnn underscreens with weather and stock market things, weren't really as mocked as i thought, just kinda 'ehm' simulated. cnn is also owned as much by turner as cartoon network, and its adult swim . cnn's also in atlanta. much like williams street, cnn, and cartoon network.

just sometimes.. i wonder if warner brothers will ever flat out buy viacom , as there are some evidences.. like nickelodeon getting access to warner toons 'animaniacs' and 'pinky and the brain' and being permitted to plaster 'nick' on them a lot..

or cartoon network not really giving much of a flit that rob renzetti and butch hartman, both cn cartoonists, now work for nick.. and craig bartlett has been given a job all too easily by cn and permitted to do both 'party wagon' and help out with johnny bravo in a new season..

or how cartoon network has managed to put a live show akin to 'u pick live' in craziness and the equal usage of humanity on a network for cartoons, much like nick, without being apparently sued (or reported as being sued by any known news channel)...

but maybe it's only me.

still, if you turn on nick and you see a 'cartoon network 2' with orange on white instead of black on white.. or 'the nashville network' restored to one of its original names and showing more tbs-like material...

if 'adult swim 2' appears on said 'cn2' with live action comedies and dramas as well as ren and stimpy , unexpurgated.. as well as zim uncut and some people 'named williams street making zim without jhonen's help or harm'..

.. if not this year, then surely before 2010, or you even retire..

.. don't say you didn't see it coming.. a warner/viacom merger... and maybe realize.. that crazy dude from texas who's made a stuffed freaky gorilla-like thing his avatar.. might have just seen it coming when you didn't.

i'm going to see if i can go to atlanta at long last. maybe then i can die happy.. sooner or later.

Hearing an idea of men getting gay in order to erase furture men out of existence is funny.:D

However watching it happen is not funny! (I was so freak out on looking on that pile of naked men. It remind of that Castlevaina monster that has a dead human coating around it and that gives me the creeps.)

But I did love the qoute "Tehy took our jerbs!" :D

I'll give it a C-

Well first off, over 30 hours before the episode premieres is kind of way too early to start posting a talkback thread.
Agreed. For future reference, MovieGuy, you should know that talkback threads should be posted no sooner than when the episode in question airs in your area, and I KNOW it didn't air thirty hours before the rest of us no matter where you live. I know it may seem picky, but a certain breed of poster seems to view posting talkbacks as being like some kind of trophy, and in the past we've had problems with people posting talkbacks days in advance in order to be first, and the less thread merging we mods have to do, the better. (Not to mention the fact that early talkbacks always wind up filled with endless pointless variations on "the previews make this episode look bad / good".)

That said, this wasn't the best way to end the season. The pile o' gay men might've shocked and amused some, but anyone who's taken Sociology 316 (Soc of Sex) at NAU has already seen the exact same thing in live action and gotten university credit for it. (-: Other than that, it was more of what we've been seeing all season: too much plot, not enough ha-ha, and the social commentary that was in this episode wasn't as poignant as, say, the steroids episode.

Well, I ALSO kinda set this up early for people to talk about no Lemmiwinks, but obviously, no one gave a crap.

But, the episode was okay. I've seen a lot better.

BEST PART: Cartman's "shoveling accident"
WORST PART: Gay pile :shudders:

I just thought of something, maybe the reason for no episode with Lemmiwinks is because Matt and Trey are not doing a Lemmiwinks episode. Maybe they are trying to fool us?

Nah, I don't think they would get so into it and then say it was a lie. I did read on the site that it was postponed due to so many new chracters having to be scanned into their program, MAYA. Hopefully, they'll get it done for October.

Blah. This one really didn't do it for me. I thought the "gooback" satire was pretty witless, and by the 80th "Tehy took our jerbs!" it was old. Not even the gay pile gave me a smile.

I miss Lemmiwinks.

I didn't get it, what was the message of the episode? Did it even have one? By the way, what was wrong with the Intolerance Camp of Horror episode? I liked that one. But, if all of you hated that episode then why on earth do you want another Lemmiwinks episode? Also, Kenny was given the shaft again. I want more Kenny!!!!!

The main idea is there's a crisis going on in America involving several immigrants flooding in from other countries. This causes a clash between those who think that these immigrants are "stealing" American jobs, and those who think they should be allowed to come.

Only here, it's with time, not countries.

The thing with the "Intolerance Camp of Horror" episode is that had a great basic plot (Mr. Garrison trying to get fired in order to get sued) and one of the best WTF moments in the series (the Lemmiwinks sub-plot). However, the whole episode was tarnished by just one thing: a sub-plot where the boys had to go to a tolerence camp a la Schindler's List. With the exception of the bit that spoofs the part of the film where Jewish kids hide inside an outhouse toilet to avoid the gas chamber, the whole "tolerance camp" part of the episode was 100% unfunny, thus ruining what would have been an excellent episode.

I...was not impressed. Pretty lame. Goes with "Awesom-O" as the worst of the new batch.

Only part I found funny was the constant "THEY TOOK OUR JOOOBS" lines and the different deliveries. I think the episode just presented a problem in the country without really giving any insight into it; it might've been better had there been a definitive stance on the issue instead of "MEXICANS SUCK"/"NO WAIT REDNECKS SUCK". Or some sort of compromise. Meh.

One thing that could be a reason for the episode being a stinker: Trey and Matt may have done this as a "last minute" episode when they realized that they weren't going to have the Lemmiwinks episode ready for this year. While there have been quite a few episodes that were finished within a week or less to fit with the topics of the news (i.e. Quints, Xmas in Canda), Trey and Matt are usually able to do something witty to make the references a hoot (plus, excluding the refs to a news incident happening a week earlier, these episodes were likely planned weeks in advance).

On the other hand, with this episode, Trey and Matt, knowing that the Lemmiwinks episode is a "no-show" for this season, probably had to come up with something to take its place, thus leading to the Goobacks episode. However, with little time to create this episode, Trey and Matt weren't able to make the episode as humorous as the rest of the season 8 episodes that aired so far (a good example of this is the Goobacks, which, outside of their plan to go to past to get a job, totally lacked the personality and humor that made other weird visitors of South Park enjoyable).

Let alone the smoker that gets chastised by Rob Reiner was one of the people in the redneck crowd during the episode?

Well, if you mix reallllly white people and reallllllt black people, you'd probably end up with roughly that color skin.
