Sure, Batman's rogues gallery was already good, but what about Superman's? The creative team behind Superman: the Animated Series had to redesign virtually all of them (sometimes throwing out everything but the name). I think that they were all worthy of praise, but which of them was the best (considering what the creators had to work with coming in)?

Parasite looks really, really awesome. While not a favorite villian - his design was great. Luthor was awesome, too, with his streamlined demeaner.

I rather enjoyed Darkseid...man, that guy was creepy. The fact that he could actually kill people in an animated cartoon was a pretty bold move, but the fact that he was so untouchable made him good. I also liked Lex Luthor, that seems more like the character to me than the comics or "Superfriends" interpretation.

I really liked how they reinvented Braniac for the series. It struck me as the most radical change.
And least fav change? While not a villian, I'd pick Krypto as my least favorite. I never did like their strange alien design for the dog.

For me, it was a bit of a tossup between Braniac and Parasite. Parasite being the one that I voted for. His design in the series was pretty much flawless. I could see things that could have been done to make him more dynamic or threatening. But, that wasn't really his character anyway. He was just sort of a "Joe Schmo." A big, simple-minded, lug who got pushed around and manipulated. Then, he went power mad after the accident. So this simple streamlined design is best. Cool , but not flashy.
Braniac's design is good to. Compaired to the old design, from the comics and Superfriends series, this one is pure genius. But the blue head was always a bit "Blah" IMO. He shoulsd have been more metalic; More impenetrable. His look is basically the same as Jaxor an Mala from the Phantom zone. Which, I'll admit, makes sense because of their Kryptonian roots. But, seeing them dressed like Braniac made Braniac seem all the more ordinary. Like a typical Kryptonian thug, but with a blue head. I would have preferred a design that emphasized that Braniac is a machine; not human or alien or any natural, living, being.

toyman, he was very, very creepy. the huge doll headover his own muffled his voice. since the expression never moved on his mask or the mouth never opened it just looked creepy when he talked.

I'd also go with Toyman--the most Batman-esque of the Superman villains. Bud Cort's voice was a perfect fit for him, too.

After reading all of your posts, I'd have to go with Brainiac too. The Kryptonian origin was so perfect I can't believe that nobody ever thought of it earlier.
A close second for me was Bizzaro. They took a goofy villain from the 60's, lost the plaster face, and made him a tragic figure in his own right. I loved that he was still goofy, yet had a touch of Alan Moore creepiness about him (check out the classic Last Superman Story from 1986 to see what I mean).
Toyman was a great villain, but I can't help but wonder: was he a man merely wearing a ceramic head or was he a remote-controlled toy himself?
Lex Luthor and Darkseid were great too, but the creators had much more to work with.

I really like Darkseid. I guess I really have a thing for the strong silent type. haha.
