Just read today's NY POST(by our friend ADAM BUCKMAN), about how "American Movie Classics" has completly destroyed their movie legacy by adding 3 1/2 minute commercials after and during their movies.
Now being a lover of classic movies, I have noticed what AMC is doing to classic movies...First off, AMC doesn't show any more silent films, the "talkies" are rarely shown anymore and their very own short subjects hardly get any air play at all.
For a classic movie channel since the first day they went on the air, have said they would "NEVER" present a film uncut or un interupted with commercials...Boy has this channel has ruined the classic art form of "The Golden Age Of Hollywood" they ought to be ashmed of themselves.
They have just lost a loyal viewer after 15 years, and I pray to god that "Turner Classic Movies" doesn't take the same route like AMC did and ruin the classic film.

Yeah, I noticed that they recently started showing commercials right in the middle of a movie. They do this during the Little Rascal shorts, too. If they start doing it during the Three Stooges, then I'm gonna go off!

Their website has become a joke. I don't know what's happened over there. I agree with the boycott. I did dig up a copy of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution from July 20th (http://www.geocities.com/argussventon/july_20.html#2:20), and there was an article about AMC planning commercials.

I see nothing wrong with airing a commercial between movies or shorts, but during movies? That's for the network stations who try to hype new films to sell things for sponsors. I also see nothing wrong with interrupting at a natural break, like a long movie that originally had an "intermission", but on AMC, they don't need breaks in the middle of movies. Aren't logos bad enough?

I mean it's a real shame that AMC would do this to their fans, for example:When I checked out 1931's "Frankenstein" they (AMC) stop the film to show a commercial for, and get this... For viagra!
As a film historian, I used to love this channel so much, cause it gave me a lot of reserach to do when it came to old classic films. I like I said in my previous post, that AMC doesn't even show silent films anymore, and as much as I love silent films, it is so sad to see a classic film channel to betray these types of films so they can fit more time for commericals and show the same movie over and over again.
AMC has already received well over a thousand complaints about their recent decision to air commericals during the movie.
Very sad:(

AMC has also started doing something even worse: They're starting to edit films to fit them into the new, commercial-filled time slots!

Just a brief question, does AMC still get away with slipping in NOVELTOONS now and then as a filler? I remember catching the last three minutes of Herman solo cartoon years ago.

I don't want to boycott, since I always whatch THE THREE STOOGES, but a petition would be great!!! I also hate how they pass a commercial in between Our Gang shorts. Also, why don't they ever pass silent OG shorts. That pisses me of!!!

AMC has been editing movies for content for close to two years now. It looks as though IFC is the only channel in the entire group (which includes Bravo and WE as well) that shows uncut, commercial-free programming. *sigh* I'm grateful for TCM.
It's so sad how far AMC hasn't come. It's taken a HUGE step backwards. I remeber when it was a great channel...

AMC also hardly shows widescreen presentations of films now.
TCM is VERY good about showing films in the proper way. TCM sometimes will show pan & scan prints of widescreen films, but it's always of films licensed to them.
TCM also shows a lot of interesting shorts between movies...and they NEVER interrupt films...even those with intermissions.
They aired Ben-Hur without commercials AND in widescreen.
TCM very rarely edits and it's usually for stuff like nudity. Lucky for them, they stick to movies that don't need to be edited. The one and ONLY good thing about AMC is that they show the Universal-owned Hitchcock films in the proper aspect ratio. The only TV masters for Rear Window and Vertigo are the widescreen, restored prints, so they can't butcher those movies!

I always thought that TCM was a 100% classic movie channel than AMC...TCM is movie channel that DOES care about their movie audience and offers viewers what they want to see.
AMC on the otherhand, could care less about their viewers, just look what they are doing to their classic film library. They don't show silnet films anymore and they certainly must have a problem with showing early sound films, otherwise known as "Talkies"
TCM offers viewers to request moviesthat they want to show, AMC doesn't to do that and to my knowledge has never done such a thing to please the televison viewers.
And now AMC is destorying America's classic film heritage by showing commericals inbetween and during the movies, and in my opinon it's very sad :(
Since the first day that AMC launched, they always have stated they they WOULD NEVER present a film uncut or uninterupted, and now they have sold out and lied to their devoted long time viewers, such as myself...I will never watch AMC ever again.
LONG LIVE TURNER CLASSIC MOVIES!!!!!

I generally stopped watching AMC when they got rid of Nick Clooney as a program host.
I did watch the "Little Rascals 2.0" but I was growing tired of factual errors in Frankie Muniz' wrap segments, and had heard that some of the shorts were altered/edited and others eliminated entirely (don't EVER hope to see "The Kid From Borneo" on television again).

While I do not like the way AMC is going now and has been going for about two years now, to be accurate (and fair), as recently as three years ago, AMC and TCM BOTH treated movies pretty much the same way-unedited and uninterrupted (in fact, as recently as 1998, TCM WAS editing for content occasionally). AMC did take requests at one point. As for commercials between programs, I see no problem with that at all. AMC used to be very good. It isn't anymore. So I watch AMC now only if something really special comes on, which rarely happens anymore. If it's something likely to be edited, then I don't even bother.

The Kid From Borneo!!!:( :( :( I love that short. It's harmless!!! I saw it on a Cabin Fever video and I instantly loved it. I was to young to appretiate it fully, but I remember it perfectly. Now I really hate AMC!!!
