Rave/s/ing are just too drug-oriented for my taste...not to mention the music just sounds the same.
For the record: I don't drink alcohol, I don't smoke, I'm not into marijuana (although I enjoy the comedy stylings of Cheech & Chong and Jim Breuer, and I've laughed my butt off at Kevin Smith movies. Go fig.), and the only drugs I take are my prescription ones, and that's to treat the problems I have.
Pass the needle to someone else. I opt out.

Since you mentioned it I do drink abit, I hate smoking, I have brethed in second hand marijuana smoke from time to time and don't mind it and have a few freinds that take BC bud in moderation.

I've never even heard of a rave going on where i live. if there's a rave scene round here, it's definitely deeply, deeply underground.
So what's it like at a rave? Does tv get it about right?
Rave parties are great although I've only been to one in my life. The only thing we drank was water cuz man! does it get hot in there!!
I'm not much into Rave music but with the right ppl everthing is fun!
There is a lot of drug around the Rave scene but many ppl just go there to have a great time. It's kinda like saying that all skaters smoke weed and that's not true either

I got into listening to trance music from my martial arts group... They play it during sparring practice so it's like watching and acting in a slick martial arts movie... tres cool :)

Argh. Raves are NOT drug-oriented... in fact, since the law has cracked down so much on them lately that pretty much all of them go nuts to try to keep drugs out. Dadgum public perception... drugs show up at rock concerts a heck of a lot more than at raves, but the cops don't shut them down. Ah well.
Again Caps, give it a try... you may like it. Though in this case, probably not. Never mind. :)

but that's only because the musicians I like are playing amusement parks, state fairs and meatpackers' conventions now.
I consider myself more of an observer than an experiencer (made-up word, I know). The only clubs I've ever been in are the clubs at Walt Disney World's Pleasure Island. Even then, I just boogie to the music, and smirk when I see a wasted person, knowing that I'm on life and they're on a beer buzz.
I make up my own fictions (hey, I'm an aspiring screenwriter. Par for the course.), and I use what I read and see on TV and the big screen for my inspiration. Okay, I'm admitting that I only know what I see on the screens and read in my books and magazines. People under the influence of (fill-in-the-blank) are tough puzzles to figure out...I prefer reading about the sleaze over experiencing it.
With the exception of the skaters...what I know about them does come from personal experience...and it ain't too pleasant.

i listen to alot of drum and bass, house music and trance, occasional hard house and techno. i would like to go to more raves, but theyre so darn out of the way, and i can hardly spare a weekend w/ all my school work. but speaking of raves, does anyone know of any good rave mailing lists i can join, listing upcoming raves and parties? im on nyc-raves list, but that list just plain blows. thanks. peace.

I'm sorry that you have had such bad expreiences with skaters, and I know that I can only speak from what I have had of expreriences with them. The ones I've met were some of the most wonderful ppl I have ever met and even though I was a newbie, they never laughed at my pittyfull attempts to learn tricks. :)
